Product Introduction
Product Overview
The Intellinet PoE-Powered 5-Port Gigabit Switch with PoE Passthrough is designed to take power from a PoE switch and pass both data and electrical power to a number of PoEcompatible devices via standard Cat5e or Cat6 network cables. Equipped with five Gigabit Ethernet ports, this switch can power up to four wireless LAN access points and bridges, VoIP phones and/or IP video cameras; draw its own power from the PoE switch it’s connected to; and deliver network speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps.
When you connect the PD port (Port 1) to a PoE-enabled, IEEE 802.3af/at-compliant PoE switch, the Intellinet PoE-Powered 5-Port Gigabit Switch uses some of the electric current to power itself and passes the available surplus power to up to four PoE edge devices, such as VoIP phones, allowing you to realize the full potential of each of the PSE ports in your data center .
Each of the four PSE ports (Ports 2-5) can provide up to 30 watts. The product is compliant with IEEE 802.3af and IEEE 802.3at standards and can be powered either by the included adapter or via PoE.

When connected to a PoE injector, midspan or PoE switch that is IEEE 802.3af/at compliant, this switch will draw power from the PoE injector or PoE switch, and the included power adapter does not need to be used. Of course, this port can also be connected to any standard Ethernet port, whether that port is PoE or not.

Hardware Installation
Refer to the diagram on Page 3.
Connect Port 1 to a PoE injector or switch to power as many as four PoE devices. You can use the external power adapter if you do not have a PoE injector or switch, or if you require the additional power budget the external power adapter provides.

PD Port vs. External Power Adapter
The PoE-Powered 5-Port Gigabit Switch with PoE Passthrough (561082) is designed to receive data and power on Port 1, and then provide data connection and power to connected PoE devicesonPorts2,3,4and5.Additionally,however,here’swhyyou’llfindthatanexternal power adapter is included.
WhenyouconnectaPoEinjectororPoEswitch toPort1(PD)ofthis561082Switch(without the power adapter), this Switch can receive up to 30 watts of power on that port — less if the connectedPoEdeviceisn’tcapableofsendingthatmuchpowerononeport.Ofthis30watts
(incoming), this 561082 Switch uses some watts for itself, and can deliver the rest to other PoE devices connected to it (outgoing). That is roughly 26 watts available for four ports, which is an average of 6.5 watts. That is enough to power as many as four network cameras or VoIP phones, as long as they do not need more power than 6.5 watts each.
Now, if you want to add a device like a high-performance Gigabit Wireless AC access point, thenyouaregoingtoneedalotmorepower.Inthesesituations, youcanusetheexternal adapter.Whenthatisconnected,themaximumpowerbudgetrisesfrom30wattsto68watts.

PoE Pinout
The IEEE 802.3af/at standard mandates that any PSE port (PoE injector or switch port) must support either of two pinouts, which are referred to as alternative A and B or mode A and B.
The Intellinet PoE-Powered 5-Port Gigabit Switch with PoE Passthrough supports alternative A.

The IEEE 802.3af/at standard also requires that PoE devices such as VoIP phones or network cameras (PD) support both modes A and B, which allows you to connect any IEEE 802/3af/ at-compliant PoE devices to the Intellinet 5-Port Gigabit Switch with PoE Passthrough without worrying about the PoE pinout.
