If the light flashes once per second, the drive
needs cleaning or an error occurred and the
drive or media may require service. Check the
single-character display for the error code
(see table below).
If the light flashes twice per second, the drive
is updating firmware, or performing a firmware
recovery (it resets automatically), or is
requesting that a cartridge be loaded.
The drive is in maintenance mode or
performing the Power-On Self Test.
The maximum operating temperature was exceeded.
The externally supplied power is outside the specified
voltage limits.
A firmware error occurred.
A firmware or tape drive hardware failure occurred.
A tape drive hardware failure occurred.
A tape drive or SCSI bus error occurred.
A tape drive or RS-422 error occurred.
The tape drive needs to be cleaned.
A tape drive hardware failure has occurred for conditions
NOT covered by error code 5.
A tape drive or media error occurred, but cannot be
isolated to faulty hardware or to the tape cartridge.
A media error occurred because of a faulty tape cartridge.
No error. This code displays:
When power is cycled (turned off, then on) to the
tape drive
When diagnostics have finished running and no
error occurred
The drive is reading from the tape, writing
to the tape, rewinding the tape, locating data
on the tape, or unloading the tape.
The drive is powered on.
The drive is idle, has no power, or is powered
off.

1. Set the SCSI ID by pushing the + or - on the SCSI
address switch.
Note: Do not select an address that is already in use.
2. Press the power button to turn the power off.
3. Plug the power cord into the power receptacle on the
back of the tape drive and the other end into a grounded
electrical outlet.
4. Connect the SCSI bus cable between the host and the
tape drive.
5. Install the SCSI terminator.
6. Press the power button to turn the power on. The tape
drive runs the Power-On Self Test.
7. Refer to your host and application software manuals to
configure the tape drive for use.
