This Get Started guide is designed to help you set up and use your new Express from Sprint. It’s divided into four sections to help you find the information you need quickly and easily.
Get Ready − page 1 − Find out what
you need to do before you use your device the first time, including inserting a battery and activating Sprint service on your device.
Android™ Basics − page 4 − Learn
some basics about how to move around on your device, use the Home screen, and enter text. If you’re familiar with Android devices, you can probably skip these pages (although a refresher course never hurt anyone).
Use Your Device − page 9 − Take
advantage of your device’s features and Sprint services, from the basics (Making Calls) to the more advanced (using Email, YouTube, GPS Navigation, and more).

Install the Battery
1. Hook your fi ngernail into the slot at the top of the battery compartment cover, and lift the cover off gently.
2. Insert the battery, contacts end fi rst, and gently press into place.
3. Replace the cover, making sure all tabs have seated and there are no gaps.
Charge the Battery
1. Plug the smaller end of the micro-USB cable into the charger/accessory jack on the bottom of your device.
2. Plug the other end of the USB cable into the AC adapter, and plug the adapter into a power outlet.
Turn the Device On
Press and hold the Power button to turn your
device on.

Turn the Screen On and Off
To quickly turn the display screen off, press the
Power button on top of the device.
To turn the screen on and display the unlock screen, press the Power button.
Unlock the Screen
Touch and drag it to the right to unlock
the screen.
Turn the Device Off
Press and hold the Power button on top of the
device and then tap Power off to turn the device off.

Activate Your Device
If you purchased your device at a Sprint Store, it is
probably activated and ready to use.
If you received your device in the mail, and it is a new Sprint account or a new phone number, your device is designed to activate automatically when you fi rst turn it on. You will see a Hands Free Activation screen at startup. When it’s fi nished, follow the onscreen instructions to continue.
If you received your device in the mail and it is going to be activated on an existing number (you’re swapping devices), you can activate on your computer online or directly on your device.
Activate on your computer:
Go to sprint.com/activate and follow the instructions.

Activate on your device:
Turn on your new device. (Make sure the old one is turned off.) Your device will automatically attempt Hands-Free Activation.
Tap Activate to override auto-activation and start the manual activation wizard.
Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the activation process.
When you have fi nished, make a phone call to confi rm your activation. If your device is still not activated or you do not have access to the Internet, contact Sprint Customer Service at 1-888-211-4727 for assistance.
