1 Overview

HP Insight managed system setup wizard configures systems to enable them to be managed by Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM) and its plug-in applications.
The managed system setup wizard eases configuration of systems for many Insight Management products and features. It is especially useful for configuration of the HP Matrix Operating Environment, but can also be used to configure Insight Management and HP SIM features as well.
After you successfully complete the managed system setup wizard, the selected systems are configured with the management features you specify.
The managed systems:
Are set up with any agents necessary to enable the management features
Have software licenses applied as needed
Have completed any additional configuration steps
You can run this wizard at any time to change the configuration or management features of your systems. You should run the wizard to configure a managed system each time its operating system is installed, updated, or changed.
You also can use this wizard to diagnose configuration issues with your systems.

Before running the managed system setup wizard

You must have properly discovered all systems in HP SIM and have licenses available for all management features. These steps are necessary before running the managed system setup wizard to configure and manage the systems.
The target systems of this wizard must be fully discovered and should have valid credentials
stored within HP SIM. If credentials are not stored in HP SIM you can enter credentials for the system during the Set Credentials step of the wizard.
NOTE: While most systems must be successfully discovered in HP SIM before being selected
as targets for the managed system setup wizard, Citrix Xen hosts and virtual machines may have minor HP SIM discovery errors (“Completed with minor errors”) before being configured by the managed system setup wizard. These errors indicate that a “discovered VM guest is not associated with the VM host”.
When you run the managed system setup wizard with Citrix Xen hosts and virtual machines as targets, and select a management feature that requires VMM, the managed system setup wizard will configure VMM properly including registering the VM host with VMM. This configuration by the wizard resolves the “not associated with the VM host” HP SIM discovery error.
You must provide software licenses for any products that require them.
Licenses may be needed in the form of either “5x5 keys” or Software Distributor (SD) license bundles (for HP-UX).
For 5x5 keys, the managed system setup wizard presents a dialog for entering license keys to be consumed. You also can add 5x5 keys using the License Manager (select the Deploy License Manager menu and click the Add Licenses button).
4 Overview
NOTE: Any SD license bundles must be installed on managed nodes. HP Insight managed
system setup wizard scans for SD licenses that have been installed on the selected target systems.
Some products also provide trial licenses that enable using the product for a short period.

2 Using HP Insight managed system setup wizard

You can use the managed system setup wizard for analyzing systems and for configuring systems to be managed by HP SIM and its plug-in applications.
After selecting systems to be managed, you configure management features for the target systems.
NOTE: Using the HP Insight managed system setup wizard requires the System Setup toolbox
authorization in HP SIM. Authorize the System Setup toolbox on the CMS to allow use of the managed system setup
wizard. Authorize this toolbox on each managed system that will be configured using the managed system setup wizard.
NOTE: To add licenses using the managed system setup wizard you must have the following HP
SIM Users tab option checked: “User can configure CMS security access such as creating, modifying or removing other users”.
This option is configured using the OptionsSecurityUsers & Authorizations menu.

Starting HP Insight managed system setup wizard

One instance of the HP Insight managed system setup wizard can run at a time in Systems Insight Manager. You can start the managed system setup wizard using any of these methods in HP SIM.
Select ConfigureManaged System Setup Wizard... from the HP SIM top menu to start the
managed system setup wizard. If you have selected any systems in HP SIM then you are prompted to verify the target systems
before the wizard operates on the systems. Otherwise you are prompted to select the target systems that the managed system setup wizard will operate on.
Use the Quick Launch... menu in HP SIM to start the managed system setup wizard.
The wizard operates on the systems you have selected.
Click a link to the managed system setup wizard on an HP SIM page. Various HP SIM pages
such as the Home page and Discovery page may include a link to the wizard.
HP Insight managed system setup wizard starts in a new browser window. This enables you to still use the original HP SIM window, if needed, while completing steps of the wizard.
NOTE: You must set your web browser to allow HP SIM to open pop-up windows. Otherwise
the managed system setup wizard will not be able to start in a new window.
NOTE: For HP SIM, the minimum supported screen resolution is 1024x768 with 256 colors.
The wizard works best with a screen resolution of 1280x1024 or better and will require additional scrolling when the resolution is set to 1024x768.

Listing the current version

Select HelpAbout in HP SIM to list the installed version of the managed system setup wizard and other plug-in applications.

Steps of the wizard

The managed system setup wizard introduction page gives an overview of the wizard.
If you selected systems in HP SIM before running the wizard then it operates on the selected
systems.
Starting HP Insight managed system setup wizard 5
Select managed systems If you have not selected valid target systems, the wizard prompts you to do so using the Select
Target Systems and Verify Target Systems screens in HP SIM.
Each system must be fully discovered and have valid credentials stored within HP SIM.
Select and configure management features
You configure management features for the selected systems with the following steps in the managed system setup wizard. The wizard does not change anything on the managed systems until after you select Run Now during the Summary step.
Select Features
Specify the management features you would like to configure for the selected managed systems.
As you select features the wizard automatically selects any necessary dependencies for you.
Choose Options
Set options for any selected management features that have them, overriding any default (or previous) settings.
Analyze Systems
The wizard analyzes the target systems to determine what actions, if any, are required to meet the configurations you specified on the Select Features page and Choose Options page. The analysis of each system determines whether licenses, agents, or other configuration tasks are needed to enable the selected management features and options.
All failed analysis must be resolved before you can continue to the next step.
Select Licenses
Choose from the available product license options, if any, to apply to the managed systems. These are the licenses needed to enable the selected management features.
For details see “Applying licenses” (page 6).
Set Credentials
Enter credentials needed to perform configuration steps on managed systems when HP SIM does not already have the credentials stored (for example, when SSH is not installed on the managed system).
Summary
Review the operations that will be performed to enable the selected management features and initiate the configuration of the managed systems.
When Run Now is selected in this step, the selected management features for each system are saved, needed licenses are applied, needed agents are installed and other configuration steps are performed.
Results
View the HP SIM task results for the configuration steps performed at the conclusion of the previous step.

Applying licenses

The HP Insight managed system setup wizard Select Licenses page enables you to select from the available product license options, if any, and choose which licenses will be applied to the target

systems to enable the selected management features. If no features require additional licenses you will not need to use this page.
HP Insight managed system setup wizard uses the HP SIM License Manager database to determine product licensing status. The wizard will store any licensing changes in the License Manager database later, when configuring target systems following the Summary page of the wizard.
NOTE: No licensing changes occur during the Select Licenses step of the wizard. Licenses are
applied and consumed after you click Run Now on the Summary page.
For details on configuring licenses using the managed system setup wizard see the wizard's online help.

3 Errors, warnings, and status messages

HP Insight managed system setup wizard provides error checking, warnings, and status messages throughout the steps of the wizard.
The Select Features page checks the requirements of the features you have selected for the
target systems. If necessary the wizard selects additional features or systems to meet all dependencies for the selected features on the target systems.
When managed system setup wizard selects additional features or additional target systems, the wizard provides a note with details of what selections were added and what dependencies required the additional selections.
The Analyze Systems page analyzes the target systems to determine the remaining steps
required for configuring the selected features. Expanding each system reveals the details of the analysis and any error messages and
suggested fixes. When the analysis has determined that a management feature cannot be configured on a system, the wizard also lists information on resolving the issue.
NOTE: Any failures indicated in the analysis results must be resolved before proceeding to
the next step of the wizard. Refer to the details and resolution information that is provided as part of the analysis task results.
If you cannot immediately resolve a failure that is indicated in the analysis results, your alternatives are to remove the system from the wizard or return to the Select Features step and deselect the feature that failed analysis for the system.
Complete details of all analysis subtasks are provided on the Analyze Systems page of the wizard. You also can view the analysis results using the HP SIM View Task Results page: select Tasks & LogsView Task Results... from the HP SIM top menu and select the job ID of the managed system setup wizard analysis task.
The Select Licenses page enables you to select and add licenses. When you click Add licenses
link or button, an IPv6 Licensing Warning message appears. It prompts you to ensure that the server has an IPv4 address as the primary address. To continue to add licenses, click OK . To refrain from adding licenses, click Cancel.
The Summary page lists the actions that will be performed on the target systems to configure
the selected features. Warnings are listed on this page for any systems that might be rebooted or will be rebooted as part of the target system configurations.
The Results page gives complete details of all subtasks performed to configure the selected
features during the execution phase. You also can view the managed system setup wizard execution results using the HP SIM View Task Results page.
When using the managed system setup wizard, if the connection to the CMS fails for any
reason you may see a “Consumer Subscribe Error” error message in a pop-up window. Normally a second pop-up window describes the error in more detail.
If the “Consumer Subscribe Error” error occurs, cancel the wizard and restart it from HP SIM. This error can occur when information has been requested from the CMS web server by the
managed system setup wizard interface running in your web browser. The connection between the wizard and the CMS could fail due to many reasons, for example, when HP SIM is restarted on the CMS, or by an unreliable or intermittent network connection to the CMS.
