1 Introduction

The RMD tool (HP 3PAR Recovery Manager Diagnostics tool) is a web-based application that identifies discrepancies in the environment running HP 3PAR RMV products. The RMD tool scans the servers managed by Recovery Manager (both RMV and vCenter servers), gathers RMV environment information, identifies discrepancies, and provides corrective actions for proper functioning of the RMV products.
Recovery Manager Diagnostic tool for RMV runs on the RMV server and performs only RMV specific tests. These tests collect RMV application specific information, vCenter and ESX Host information, vCenter and RMV log files, troubleshooting recurrent customer issues in RMV, such as, RMV configuration issues, vCenter and HP 3PAR StoreServ connectivity issues, and so on. RMV refers to RMV application package including RMV Management Plug-in and VASA Provider.
The RMD tool 1.0 is supported on RMV 2.4.0 and RMV 2.4 Patch 01 releases.
4 Introduction

2 System requirements for installation

Hardware requirements

The RMD tool has no specific hardware requirements for installation, except for the hardware requirements for RMV installation.

Software requirements

RMV must be installed and running on the RMV and vCenter servers. The RMD tool must be installed on the RMV server. The RMD tool can diagnose only the RMV Server and vCenter servers managed by the RMV server. If multiple vCenter servers are available, then the RMD tool must be installed on each vCenter server to perform the diagnosis.
The RMD tool uses WMI to perform checks on the backup server and hence you must set the required firewall exception for WMI. For more information about configuring and setting exceptions for WMI, see http://msdn.microsoft.com/.
In the MSDN website, navigate to the Library and search for the following:

Performing diagnostic checks

To perform the diagnostic checks:
1. Select the servers to run the diagnostic checks. The RMD tool automatically discovers and lists all the RMV and vCenter servers managed by
RMV. By default, all the vCenter servers are selected for diagnosis. However, you can also select servers to run the diagnostic checks. The RMV server is selected by default for running the diagnostic checks.

By default, the RMD tool uses the logon credentials provided during installation to log on to the different servers.
NOTE: If the logon credentials are incorrect, then during test execution, RMD tool displays
the error message Connection to remote machine failed.
3. Select Collect Application Specific Logs to include log tests during diagnostics. If you select this check box, then after the diagnosis is complete, the log files are available in the RMV Log Files Information section of the Test Report. By default, the check box is cleared.

Files\3PAR\RMD\RMV\tomcat\webapps\RMDWeb\RMDReport\RMV\time_stamp\RMV_Server
to view the application specific log files,
where:
time_stamp is the time stamp of the diagnostics check. RMV_Server is the name of the RMV server selected for the diagnostics check.
4. Click Start Diagnostics.
The RMD tool runs the diagnostic checks on all the selected servers.

10 Using the RMD tool
The RMD tool displays details of the checks executed on selected servers. A green check mark against a test indicates that the test execution is complete. A red cross indicates that the test execution is not complete.
NOTE: The green check mark against each test indicates that the test execution is complete.
However, this does not imply that the test result is always successful.
You can stop the diagnosis by clicking STOP. However, if you manually stop the test execution, you will not be able to see any test results. Click BACK to return to the RMD tool home page.
NOTE: The RMD tool automatically discovers and lists all the servers managed by RMV, when

Viewing diagnostic reports

The RMD tool does not generate the report if you press STOP or BACK during test execution. All the tests must be completed for a successful report generation.
Click View Report to view a detailed report of all the diagnostic checks.
Viewing diagnostic reports 11
The Test Report window has the following summary sections:
Report by Product—Lists the servers with the corresponding test status. Click the required server

Warning—Indicates that there are no failures in the test result, however, there are one or more
warnings.
Failure—Indicates that there are one or more failures in the test result.
CAUTION: Ensure that you resolve all the failures and warnings before starting the RMV supported
