Overview
This document describes how to install and cable a SAS
controller in hot-plug SATA/SAS models of the SAS HP
ProLiant ML310 Generation 2 and HP ProLiant ML310
Generation 3 Servers for SAS hard drive support.
Hot-plug SATA and hot-plug SAS hard drives can be used
interchangeably when a SAS controller is installed. A SATA
controller is embedded for use with SATA drives only. Before
installing a SAS hard drive in an ML310 Generation 2 server,
you must install an optional SAS controller.
SAS controller
To install the component:
1. Power down the server.
2. Remove the bezel.
3. Remove the access panel.
4. Remove the expansion slot cover.
5. Install the SAS controller, and press it down to seat.

installation procedures
6. Disconnect the SATA/SAS cable from the system board
and connect it to the SAS controller.
7. Be sure the SATA/SAS cable is properly connected to the
SAS controller and drive backplane.
