Introduction
HP ProLiant Essentials Performance Management Pack (PMP) is a software solution that detects and analyzes hardware performance issues on HP ProLiant servers, HP Integrity Servers and HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array (MSA) shared storage devices. PMP provides the tools you need to receive proactive notification of building bottleneck conditions and debug existing performance issues.
With PMP, you can monitor performance on one or more servers. The performance information is analyzed to determine if there is a pending or existing performance bottleneck issue. You can interactively display this information, log the information to a database for later analysis or reporting, and set up proactive notification using the HP Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM) notification mechanism.
PMP is an intelligent, easy-to-use tool that is accessed from Microsoft clients running Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or higher and that monitors servers running Windows or Linux. For detailed information about supported operating systems, refer to the HP ProLiant Essentials Performance Management Pack
Support Matrix.
PMP is a Web-based application that enables you to watch and analyze the real-time performance of any monitored server from a separate client.
The performance monitoring service is designed to run on a separate middle-tier server, which also serves as the HP SIM console server. The monitored servers are only required to run the standard Management Agents. Because of the design of PMP, there is minimal impact on the monitored servers.

PMP provides the following key benefits:
Enables you to monitor your ProLiant and Integrity system performance
Increases user satisfaction by proactively dealing with performance issues
Monitors performance without “console watching” or while you are away
Collates and reports on performance information for planning
Applying software licenses
In the earlier releases of PMP, servers and storage were licensed using the Licensing Administration page of PMP. In this version of PMP, the navigation for licensing servers is modified. The navigation for licensing storage devices remains the same.
With this release, you can license servers for PMP using one of the following pages:
Configuration page
Online Analysis page Before licensing servers for PMP, verify that each of the servers has a supported
operating system and version of Management Agents installed. Also be sure that HP SIM reports the correct hardware and software information for each server.
For more information about discovering and updating the server list in HP SIM, see the “Obtaining the server list” chapter of the HP ProLiant Essentials Performance Management Pack Setup and Installation Guide. For information about supported operating systems and Management Agent versions, refer to the HP ProLiant Essentials Performance Management Pack Support Matrix.
Licensing servers using the Configuration page:
1. From the HP SIM console toolbar, select Options>Performance Management Pack>Configuration. The Verify Target Systems page appears.
2. Select the servers you need to license and click Next.
If you need to remove a server from the list, select the server name and select
Remove Target.
