Abstract: This document focuses on the steps necessary for the
successful installation of Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0
and Service Pack 6 on Compaq
V300 portable products. The steps outlined provide a complete
installation procedure that works regardless of the currently installed
operating system.
For details on Compaq’s overall operating system strategy, operating
system features, and the installation of additional Service Packs,

This document is intended for Compaq personnel and customers
needing information on installing Microsoft Windows NT
Workstation 4.0, Service Pack 6, and applicable programs on

This White Paper discusses installing Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0 with Service Pack
6 on selected Compaq Armada portable products. The document provides basic instructions for
the installation process. The data on the file s conta ined in this Whi te Paper is cur ren t as of the
publication date. Please refer to
most current files.
Note:
Back up all data and applications prior to installing Microsoft Windows NT
Workstation 4.0.

Before beginning the installation scripts for any of the platforms, obtain the items listed below.
The following items can be obtained directly from Microsoft:
•
Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0 CD and the three setup diskettes
•
Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0 Service Pack 6 CD
•
Microsoft MS-DOS v6.22 Boot Disk or other bootable disk that contains a current FDISK
utility
The following items can be obtained from Compaq:
•
The current ROM available for the platform. See Appendix A for information on determining
the current ROM version and how to update it.
•
The latest Compaq Support Software CD containing all updated drivers and deliverables.

IMPORTANT:
Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0. Previous versions may not work or may produce
anomalies.
Have one blank high-density floppy diskette to create a startup disk and up to three additional
blank high-density floppy diskettes before beginning installation.
