The version of Microsoft Internet
Explorer included in the Pre­install Refresh is 4.0. As of this
printing, Microsoft has released
version 4.01, which includes a
number of enhancements, most
notably in the area of security.
Internet Explorer 4.01 can be

Internet Explorer 4.0. The previous version, 3.02, has been removed from the pre-install
image.

(3) Installing Service Pack 3 on Windows NT 4.0 pre-install images necessitated an upgrade of

two key Compaq software components. These two components are Power Management and
Multibay providing enhanced power management and Multibay device swapping capability
respectively. Older versions of these components will not work with Service Pack 3.

(4) Updated video drivers for both Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0. The update does not add

new functionality, it only introduces fixes to problems identified with earlier versions.

(5) Updated audio drivers for Windows 95.
(6) The desktop configuration includes a convenient icon that launches Microsoft Service Pack 3

setup. Although Service Pack 3 is already installed, making operating configuration changes
that involve changes to networking components may require reapplication of Service Pack 3.

The release adds additional support for products from other Compaq divisions. The only applicable change for notebooks

is added support for DVD storage devices.

This release fixes two know problems: (1) free space is now reported correctly on partitions larger than 2GB; and (2) the

hibernation file is validated when selecting the hibernation tab in the control panel extension.

This release is identical to the prior expect that this version is certified by Microsoft. The VXD file is the only file changed

over the previous version.
