Installation Instructions
Introduction
This manual provides instructions for installation of the hp Integrity cx2600 server chassis in a 19 in.
2-column rack, with column widths of 3 to 9 inches.
Cabinet Safety Precautions
WARNING Ensure that the rack is level and stable before working on the rack. Be sure the
leveling jacks (feet) extend to the floor and that the full weight of the rack rests
firmly on the floor.
WARNING Ensure that the rack has anti-tip measures in place. Such measures may include
floor-bolting, anti-tip feet, ballast, or a combination of these measures as specified by
the rack manufacturer and applicable codes.
WARNING Be sure that adequate personnel are on hand to support the product(s) during the
installation process. Use of the appropriate lifting device is recommended as an
installation aid.
WARNING Always load the rack from the bottom up. Load the heaviest items in the rack first.
This makes the rack bottom-heavy and helps prevent the rack from becoming
unstable.
WARNING Do not overload the branch circuit that provides power to the rack. The total rack
load should not exceed 80% of the branch circuit rating.
Mounting Kit Contents
This manual provides installation instructions for server mount kit AB292A. This kit is intended for use with
the hp Integrity cx2600 server, and includes the following:
•Chassis Tray (Base)
•Two Rack Brackets
• Cable Management Strain Relief Bar
• Mounting Hardware (screws, washers, and nuts)

Mounting Options
The server chassis can be mounted with the chassis front at the rack columns, or with the chassis centered
between the rack columns. The front-mount option facilitates alignment of the chassis front panel with those
of other items in the rack. (The tray provides adequate support to prevent unbalancing the rack or stressing
the columns.) The center-mount option provides improved weight distribution for those installations where
columns are already stressed.

The mounting holes in the chassis rack ears, together with the holes in the tray (base) and rack columns
(approximately 1/4-inch centers) allow adjustment of the server mounting position, up to the practical limits
of weight distribution. The server is supported in the tray (base) and held in position by eight screws
(provided).

Mounting Kit
Before mounting your server in a 2-column rack, inspect the mounting kit hardware. Review the installation
procedure and determine which screws will be required. (Alternate screws are provided due to the variations
in rack column mounting threads.) Verify that all needed parts are available. (A mounting kit parts list is
provided at the rear of this manual.)
Installation Procedure – Front Mount
Front-mount a server in a 2-column rack as follows:
Step 1. Install the tray (base) to the back of the rack columns, at the desired mounting position. Attach the
tray to the rack columns with T25 10-32 or 12-24 panhead screws, lockwashers, and #12
flatwashers.

Step 2. Install the 10-32 nut clips on the tray (base) where the bracket mounting screws will be installed.
Step 3. From the front of the rack, slide the server chassis onto the tray (base), with the chassis rack ears
against the rack columns. Attach the rack ears to the columns with T25 10-32 or 12-24 panhead
screws, lockwashers, and #12 flatwashers.

Step 4. Loosely attach the chassis brackets to each side of the server chassis with T15 screws and plated
flatwashers. Attach the rack brackets to the tray (base) with T25 10-32 screws. Then tighten all
screws.
Step 5. Attach the cable management strain relief bar to the brackets with T25 10-32 screws. (See
Figure 1-3.)

Mounting Kit
Before mounting your server in a 2-column rack, inspect the mounting kit hardware. Review the installation

Center-mount a server in a 2-column rack as follows:
Step 1. Install the tray (base) to the front of the rack columns, at the desired mounting position. Attach the
tray to the rack columns with T25 10-32 or 12-24 panhead screws, lockwashers, and #12
flatwashers.

Step 2. Install the 10-32 nut clips on the tray (base) where the chassis rack ear mounting screws will be
installed.
Step 3. From the front of the rack, slide the server chassis onto the tray (base), with the chassis rack ears
against the front of the tray. Attach the rack ears to the tray with T25 10-32 screws, lockwashers,
and #12 flatwashers.

Step 4. Loosely attach the chassis brackets to each side of the server chassis with T15 screws and plated
washers. Attach the rack brackets to the rack columns with T25 10-32 or 12-24 panhead screws,
lockwashers, and #12 flatwashers. Then tighten all screws.
Step 5. Attach the cable management strain relief bar to the brackets with T25 10-32 screws. (See
Figure 1-6.)
