GENERAL SAFETY RULES
WARNING!
READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL INSTRUCTIONS
Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in
electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
Keep your work area clean and well lit. Cluttered benches and dark areas invite
accidents.
Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the pres-
ence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may
ignite the dust or fumes.
Keep bystanders and children away while operating a power tool. Distractions
can cause you to lose control. Protect others in the work area from debris such as
chips and sparks. Provide barriers or shields as needed.
For technical questions, please call 1-800-444-3353.

2.
3.
4.
5.
Stay alert. Watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating
a power tool. Do not use a power tool while tired or under the influence of drugs,
alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may
result in serious personal injury.
Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Contain long hair. Keep
your hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry, or
long hair can be caught in moving parts.
Avoid accidental starting. Do not depress Lever (A34) until you are ready to
begin work.
Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Proper footing
and balance enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection must be used for appropriate conditions. Al-
ways wear ANSI-approved safety goggles and a dust mask/respirator when using
or performing maintenance on this tool.
TOOL USE AND CARE
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
1.
Do not force the tool. Use the correct tool for your application. The correct
tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it is designed. Do not force
the tool and do not use the tool for a purpose for which it is not intended.
Store idle tools out of reach of children and other untrained persons. Tools
are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
Maintain tools with care. Properly maintained tools are less likely to bind and
are easier to control. Do not use a damaged tool. Tag damaged tools “Do not use”
until repaired.
Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any
other condition that may affect the tool’s operation. If damaged, have the tool
serviced before using. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained tools.
Use only accessories that are recommended by the manufacturer for this
model. Accessories that may be suitable for one tool may become hazardous
when used on another tool.
SERVICE
Tool service must be performed only by qualified repair personnel. Service or
maintenance performed by unqualified personnel could result in a risk of injury.

7.
NEVER use the Flat Bottom Jack unless it is properly and securely attached
first.
WARNING: DO NOT exceed the maximum lift capacity of 8 Tons (~16,000
pounds). Exceeding the maximum lifting capacity is dangerous and could cause
serious injury or property damage.
Maintain labels and nameplates on the tool. These carry important information.
If unreadable or missing, contact Harbor Freight Tools for a replacement.
Maintain a safe working environment. Make sure there is adequate surrounding
workspace. Do not use this product in a damp or wet location.
Do not alter Flat Bottom Jack’s 16.5 mm (0.65”) mounting hole. A mounting
pins (not included) must be used that is rated to support at least 8 Tons of pressure
and it must have R-Pins (not included) to lock the pin in place.
Use the Flat Bottom Jack only on a flat, level and solid surface capable of
supporting the combined weight of the lifting equipment, crane and load.
The Flat Bottom Jack is designed to lift loads only for short periods of time.
Do not use Long Ram Jack to suspend a load for more than 30 minutes at a time.
8.
9.
10.
11.
12.
13.
14.
Immediately after lifting, brace load with support equipment rated to handle
the load capacity. Do not work under a load suspended only by the Flat Bottom
Jack.
Do not attempt to move or shift object being lifted.
Twisting or sideways force exerted on the Jack could cause it to fail.
Do not attempt to move a load while it is supported by the Flat Bottom Jack.
The Jack must be used in a fixed position when lifting and lowering loads.
Before lowering a load, be certain that the area underneath the load is clear
of obstructions and personnel.
Industrial applications must meet OSHA requirements.
Use compressed air only. Use only clean, dry, regulated, compressed air between
110 and 120 PSI. Never use Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide, combustible gases or any
other bottled gas as a power source for this product.

parts are missing or broken, please call Harbor Freight Tools at the number shown on the
cover of this manual as soon as possible.
OPERATION
1.
Place the Flat Bottom Jack on a solid, level surface capable of bearing the combined
weight of the tool and load. Due to the variety of applications possible for this jack,
proper hardware suited for the application must be supplied by the user and proper
mounting procedures must be followed by the installer. If you are not familiar with
this type of work or have any doubt about your capability to safely install this jack,
have a qualified technician install the jack for you. To secure the top of the Hydraulic
Jack, slide a pin (not included) through the product and Ram (13). Make sure the
pin’s diameter is a push fit with just enough clearance so that it can move freely.
The pin should be held in place with appropriate clips or hardened cotter pins (not
included)..
Note: WARNING! The Pin must be rated to support at least 8 tons (~16,000
pounds) of pressure. (See Figure A.)
2.
3.
Insert the Handle (21) into the Handle Bracket (31).
Raising and Lowering:
To raise the Flat Bottom Jack turn the Release Valve (4) clockwise until the valve
•
is tightly closed. Pump the Handle (21) to raise the Jack. Continue to pump the
Handle (21) until the Flat Bottom is at the desired height.
To lower the Jack, first verify that the area under the object is clear, then turn the
•
Release Valve (4) counterclockwise. This will release pressure in the Jack and
cause the Jack to lower.
For technical questions, please call 1-800-444-3353.

4.
Adding Hydraulic Oil:
Turn the Release Valve (4) counterclockwise until Jack is completely lowered.
•
Remove the Filler Plug (17) from the Reservoir (16). Fill the Reservoir (16) with
oil. Use a high quality hydraulic oil.
5.
Hydraulic System Bleeding Instructions:
Caution: Never bleed the system while Flat Bottom is under a load.
To bleed the Flat Bottom Jack, remove the Filler Plug (17) located on the Res-
a.
ervoir (16).
Open the Release Valve (4). Press and hold piston down.
b.
Insert the Handle (21) in the Handle Bracket (31) and slowly pump the Handle
c.
at least 10 times. Continue pumping until no more air bubbles appear.
Leave Handle in “down position” and turn clockwise to close Release Valve.
d.
Raise Handle and check oil level, if necessary, top off the Reservoir with hy-
e.
draulic oil.
Replace the Filler Plug.
f.
Test the Flat Bottom Jack’s performance several times before attempting to lift
g.
an object with the shop crane.
Once satisfied that the shop crane is operating properly, then the crane is ready
to lift an object. (See Figure D.)
INSPECTION, MAINTENANCE, AND CLEANING
BEFORE EACH USE, inspect the general condition of the tool. Check for loose
screws, misalignment or binding of moving parts, cracked or broken parts, damaged electrical wiring, and any other condition that may affect its safe operation. If abnormal noise
or vibration occurs, have the problem corrected before further use. Do not use damaged
equipment.
