13. POWER SOURCES

This unit should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the rating plate. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult your appliance dealer or local power company. For units intended to operate from battery power, or other sources, refer to the operating instructions.

14. GROUNDING OR POLARIZATION

Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug. A polarized plug has two blades with one wider than the other. A grounding type plug has two blades and a third grounding prong. The wide blade or the third prong are provided for your safety. If the provided plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet.

15. Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus.

16. Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of time.

20. OBJECT AND LIQUID ENTRY

Do not push objects through any openings in this unit, as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short out parts that could result in fire or electric shock. Never spill or spray any type of liquid into the unit.

21. OUTDOOR ANTENNA GROUNDING

If an outside antenna or cable system is connected to the unit, be sure the antenna or cable system is grounded to provide some protection against voltage surges and built-up static charges, Section 810 of the National Electrical Code (NEC), ANSI/NFPA 70, provides information with respect to proper grounding of the mast and supporting structure, grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna discharge unit, size of grounding conductors, location of antenna discharge unit, connection to grounding electrodes, and requirements for the grounding electrode.

22. SERVICING

Do not attempt to service this unit yourself as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.

23. DAMAGE REQUIRING SERVICE

Unplug this unit from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions: a. When the power-supply cord or plug is damaged. b. 24. REPLACEMENT PARTS

When replacement parts are required, be sure the service technician uses replacement parts specified by the manufacturer or those that have the same characteristics as the original part. Unauthorized substitutions may result in fire, electric shock or other hazards.

25. SAFETY CHECK

Upon completion of any service or repairs to this unit, ask the service technician to perform safety checks to determine that the unit is in proper operating condition.

26. HEAT

The product should be situated away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other products (including amplifiers) that produce heat.

27. DISC SLOT

Keep your fingers well clear of the disc slot as it is closing. It may cause serious personal injury.

28. CONNECTING

When you connect the product to other equipment, turn off the power and unplug all of the equipment from the wall outlet. Failure to do so may cause an electric shock and serious personal injury. Read the owner's manual of the other equipment carefully and follow the instructions when making any connections.

29. SOUND VOLUME

Reduce the volume to the minimum level before you turn on the product. Otherwise, sudden high volume sound may cause hearing or speaker damage.

30. SOUND DISTORTION

Do not allow the product output distorted sound for a longtime. It may cause speaker overheating and fire.

31. LASER BEAM

Do not look into the opening of the disc slot or ventilation opening of the product to see the source of the laser beam. It may cause sight damage.

32. DISC

Do not use a cracked, deformed, or repaired disc. These discs are easily broken and may cause serious personal injury and product malfunction.

33. NOTE TO CABLE TV SYSTEM INSTALLER

This reminder is provided to call the Cable TV system installer's attention to Article 820-40 of the NEC that provides guidelines for proper grounding and, in particular, specifies that the cable ground shall be connected to the grounding system of the building, as close to the point of cable entry as practical.

Note: * It is recommended that a 75 ohm coaxial antenna is used to avoid interference. *To avoid interference from electrical signals, do not bind the antenna cable together with any mains lead.

Preparation for the remote control

Battery installation

Remove the battery cover.

Insert two size AAA batteries matching

the +/-polarities of the battery to the +/marks inside the battery compartment.

Tips for remote operation

!When the remote control will not be used for a long period of time or when the batteries are worn out, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.

!Do not throw the batteries into fire. Dispose of used batteries in the specified manner.

!Do not drop, dampen or disassemble the remote control.

You can connect the DVD,VCR and stereo system to the output to enjoy a higher quality of picture and sound effect.

Antenna connections

If you are using an indoor or outdoor antenna, follow the instructions below that correspond to your antenna system. If you are using a cable TV service (CABLE), see the Cable TV connections.

Combination VHF/UHF antenna (Single 75 ohm cable or 300 ohm twin-lead wire)

Connect the 75 ohm cable from the combination VHF/UHF antenna to the RF IN jack.

If using a flat UHF 300 ohm twin-lead wire, connect these flat wires to an optional 75/300 ohm matching transformer/adapter (available at many retailers), and then connect the adapter to the 'RF' IN connector on the back of the television.

Connect the UHF 300 ohm twin-lead wire to the combiner (not supplied). Connect the VHF 300 ohm twin-lead wire to the 300-75 ohm matching transformer. Attach thetransformer to the combiner, then attach the combiner to the RF IN jack.

Connect the VHF 75 ohm cable and UHF 300 ohm twin-lead wire to the combiner. Attach the combiner to the RF IN jack.

Cable TV connections

This unit has an extended tuning range and can tune most cable channels without using a Cable TV Converter box. Some cable companies offer "premium pay channels" in which the signal is scrambled. Descrambling these signals for normal viewing requires the use of a descrambler device which is generally provided by the cable company.

FOR SUBSCRIBERS TO BASIC CABLE TV SERVICE

For basic cable service not requiring a Converter/Descrambler box, connect the 75 ohm Coaxial Cable directly to the RF IN Jack on the back of the unit.

FOR SUBSCRIBERS TO SCRAMBLED CABLE TV SERVICE

If you subscribe to a cable TV service which requires the use of a converter/descrambler box, connect the incoming 75 ohm coaxial cable to the converter/descrambler box. Using another 75 ohm coaxial cable, connect the output jack of the converter/descrambler box to the RF IN jack on the unit. Follow the connections shown below. Set the unit to the output channel of the converter/descrambler box (usually channel 3 or 4) and use the converter/descrambler box to select channels.

FOR SUBSCRIBERS TO UNSCRAMBLED BASIC CABLE TV SERVICE WITH SCRAMBLED PREMIUM CHANNELS

If you subscribe to a cable TV service in which basic channels are unscrambled and premium channels require the use of a converter/descrambler box, you may wish to use a signal splitter and an A/B switch box (available from the cable company or an electronics supply store). Follow the connections shown below. With the switch in the "B" position, you can directly tune any nonscrambled channels on your unit. With the switch in the "A" position, tune your unit to the output of the converter/descrambler box (usually channel 3 or 4) and use the converter/descrambler box to tune scrambled channels.

Using the audio/video inputs

If you connect the TV to a camcorder or Video Game, you can select different modes by pressing

Press TV/AV repeatedly to select the desired mode.

"AV1", "AV2", "COMPONENT" or TV channel will display on the screen for 4 seconds, no signal will be displayed on the screen when no signal input.

After the programs are presetting, you can skip some programs so that to select your favorite channels only.

Channel selection

You can select the channel by using either CH +/- button or Channel number buttons. How to select the channel in each way is shown below.

When the Antenna/Cable menu option is in the Cable position, channels

can be selected as follows:

1-9: Press 1-9 as needed. Example, to select channel 2, press "2". 10-99: Press the 2 digits in order. Example, to select channel 32, press "3" then "2". 100-125: Press the digital 1 button, the "1--" will appear on the screen, then press the 2 digits of remain in order.

NOTE:

In the DTV broadcasting, one channel sometimes broadcasts multiple programs depending on the air time. In this case, the main channel is called major channel and the sub channel is called minor channel.

Volume adjustment

This section describes how to adjust the volume when viewing TV. The MUTE function, which is useful when you have a visitor or a phone call, will be also described.

1 Using VOL +/- button

You can adjust the audio volume with VOL +/- button on

the remote control.

The volume bar is displayed at the bottom of the screen

when adjusting the volume.

Same operation is available with VOL +/- on the front

panel of the main unit.

2 Using MUTE button

Press MUTE button on the remote control to mute the sound. The colored volume bar is displayed on the screen while muting.

To release the MUTE status, press MUTE button again or press VOL+ button. MUTE will displayed continuously When CC is OFF, MUTE will disappeared 5 seconds later When CC is ON.

SWITCHING AUDIO

This section describes how to switch the audio language in the digital mode.

2 Switch the audio language.

When you press SAP button on the remote control, the currently selected language and the number of received languages will be displayed on the screen.

Every time you press SAP button on the remote control,

the language will be switched.

Languages you can switch differ depending on the

receiving broadcast.

NOTE:

Pressing the SAP button works only with the some TV channels, and does not work with external equipment such as DVD players.

Screen information

You can display the currently selected channel number or other information such as the audio mode on the screen for checking.

In the analog mode, the currently selected channel number and the audio mode are displayed.

1 Display the channel number and the audio mode.

Press INFO button on the remote control. The currently selected channel number and the audio mode are displayed at the top right of the screen.

To clear the display, press INFO button again.

In the digital mode, the detailed information for the currently selected channel such as the program GUIDEe is displayed.

Display the detailed information for the channel. Every time you press INFO button, the display mode will be switched as below.

Closed caption

WHAT IS CLOSED CAPTIONING?

This television has the capability to decode and display closed captioned television programs. Closed captioning will display text on the screen for hearing impaired viewers or it will translate and display text in another language.

Captions: This closed caption mode will display text on the screen in English or another language (depending on the setting of the closed captions). Generally, closed captions in English are transmitted on captions

CC 1 and closed captions in other languages are transmitted on Captions CC 2.

Text: The text closed caption mode will usually fill the screen

with a programming schedule or other information. After selecting a closed caption mode, it will stay in effect until it is changed, even if the channel is changed. If the captions signal is lost due to a commercial or a break in the signal, the captions will reappear when the signal is received again. If the channels are changed, the captions will be delayed approximately 10 seconds. The captions will appear in places on the screen where they will least interfere with the picture, usually on the bottom of the screen. News programs will usually show three-line closed captions which scroll onto the screen. Most other shows provide two or three lined captions placed near the character who is speaking so the viewer can follow the dialogue. Words in italics or underlined describe titles, words in foreign languages or words requiring emphasis. Words that are sung usually appear enclosed by musical notes. For television programs broadcasting with closed captions, look in your TV GUIDE for the closed captions symbol (CC).

NOTES:

When selecting closed captions, the captioning will be delayed approximately 10 seconds. If no caption signal is received, no captions will appear, but the television will remain in the caption mode.

Misspellings or unusual characters may occasionally appear during closed captioning. This is normal with closed captioning, especially with live programs. This is because during live programs, captions are also entered live. These transmissions do not allow time for editing.

When captions are being displayed, on-screen displays, such as volume and mute may be hided. If the OSD

display appears, the closed caption will disappear, when the OSD disappear, the Closed Caption will appear again.

Some cable systems and copy protection systems may interfere with the closed captioned signal.

If using an indoor antenna or if TV reception is very poor, the closed caption decoder may not appear or may appear with strange characters or misspelled words. In this case, adjust the antenna for better reception or use an outdoor antenna.

This allows you to configure the way you choose to view the digital captioning. Select one of the digital service channels made available by the caption provider. There are 6 standard services. Service 1 is designated as the Primary Caption Service. This service contains the verbatim, or near-verbatim captions for the primary language being spoken in the accompanying program audio. Service 2 is designated as the Secondary Language Service. This service contains captions in a secondary language which are translations of the captions in the primary Caption Service. The other service subchannels are not pre-assigned. It is up to the discretion of the individual caption provider to utilize the remaining service channels.

The aerial direction and connection

This is called "ghosting" and can be minimized with an outside aerial, and good quality cable and terminations. Altering the aerial direction can also minimize this effect.

Electrical interference which can be caused by cars, motorbikes etc, Fluorescent lamps and dirty insulators on overhead power cables.

Ensure that the power supply is connected to the TV set and turned on. Also ensure that the TV set is not in "Listen Mode" or that the brightness and contrast are not turned down.

Color Purity is a fault that can be caused by moving the TV set, placing magnets near the TV screen or turning on/off house hold appliances such as vacuum cleaners near the TV set. Turn the TV off with the main power switch for 15 minutes. When the power is turned on again the TV set will automatically degauss the picture. In severe cases leave the TV set turned off over night.

14. DESCARGA A TIERRA O POLARIZACIÓN

No anule el propósito de seguridad del enchufe polarizado o con descarga a tierra. El enchufe

polarizado tiene dos puntas y una de ellas es más ancha que la otra. El enchufe con descarga a tierra tiene dos puntas y una tercera clavija para la descarga a tierra. La punta más ancha y la tercera clavija están puestas para su seguridad. Si el enchufe suministrado no coincide con su tomacorriente, consulte con un electricista para reemplazar el tomacorriente obsoleto.

15. Evite pisar o apretar el cable de alimentación, especialmente en los enchufes, tomacorrientes y en el punto por donde salen del artefacto.

Baje el volumen al nivel mínimo antes de encender el producto. De lo contrario, el volumen de sonido alto y repentino le puede provocar lesiones auditivas o daños a los parlantes.

Si se suscribe a un servicio de televisión por cable en el cual los canales básicos no están encriptados y los canales premium requieren el uso de una caja para conversión o desencriptador, probablemente desee utilizar un divisor de señal y una caja de distribución A//B (disponible en la empresa de cable o en una tienda de productos electrónicos). Selección de canales

En la emisión de DTV, un mismo canal algunas veces emite varios programas, según el tiempo de aire. En este caso, el canal principal se llama “canal principal” y el subcanal se llama “canal secundario”.

Ajuste del volumen

Esta sección describe cómo debe ajustarse el volumen cuando se mira televisión. También se describirá la función SIN SONIDO, que es útil cuando tiene visitas o una llamada telefónica.

1 Utilizando el botón VOL +/-

- Puede ajustar el volumen del audio con el botón VOL +/-

del control remoto.

- Aparece la barra del volumen en la parte inferior de la pantalla cuando ajusta el volumen.

- Puede realizarse la misma operación con el botón VOL +/del panel de adelante de la unidad principal.

2 Uso del botón MUTE (SIN SONIDO

- Presione el botón MUTE (SIN SONIDO) del control remoto para detener el sonido. La barra coloreada de volumen aparece en la pantalla mientras el televisor está en el modo sin sonido.

- Para salir del estado SIN SONIDO, presione el botón

MUTE nuevamente o presione el botón VOL+. Se mostrará de manera continua SIN SONIDO cuando los subtítulos ocultos están apagados, SIN SONIDO desaparecerá después de 5 segundos cuando los subtítulos ocultos están encendidos.

CAMBIOS EN EL AUDIO Esta sección describe cómo cambiar el idioma del audio en el modo digital.

2 Cambio del idioma de audio.

- Cuando presiona el botón SAP (Programa de audio secundario) del control remoto, en la pantalla aparecerán el idioma seleccionado en ese momento y la cantidad de idiomas recibidos.

- Cada vez que presione el botón SAP (Programa de audio secundario) en el control remoto, se cambiará el idioma.

- Los idiomas entre los que puede elegir varían según la emisión recibida.

NOTA: La función del botón SAP sólo funciona con algunos canales de televisión y no funciona con equipos externos, tales como reproductores de DVD.

Información en pantalla

Puede desplegar en la pantalla el número de canal seleccionado en un momento determinado u otra información, como el modo de audio, para su control.

En el modo analógico, se muestran el número de canal seleccionado y el modo de audio. 1 Despliegue el número de canal y el modo de audio.

- Presione el botón INFO en el control remoto. En la parte

superior derecha de la pantalla aparecen el número de canal y el modo de audio seleccionados.

Subtítulos ocultos

¿QUÉ SON LOS SUBTÍTULOS OCULTOS (CC, en inglés)? Este televisor tiene la capacidad de decodificar y mostrar programas de televisión con subtítulos ocultos. Con los subtítulos ocultos, se muestra texto en la pantalla para los televidentes con discapacidades auditivas, o se traduce y muestra el texto en otro idioma.

Subtítulos: Este modo de subtítulos ocultos muestra el texto en la pantalla en inglés o en otro idioma (según la configuración de los subtítulos ocultos). Por lo general, los subtítulos ocultos en inglés se transmiten en los subtítulos CC 2. Texto: El modo de subtítulos ocultos de texto por lo general llena la pantalla con los horarios de programación u otra información. Después de seleccionar un modo de subtítulos ocultos, éste seguirá en efecto hasta que se lo cambie, aunque se cambie de canal. Si se pierde la señal de los subtítulos a causa de las publicidades o una interrupción de la señal, volverán a aparecer los subtítulos cuando se reciba nuevamente la señal. Si se cambian los canales, los subtítulos se retrasarán aproximadamente 10 segundos. Los subtítulos aparecen en lugares de la pantalla donde interfieran menos con la imagen, por lo general en la parte inferior de la pantalla. Los programas de noticias por lo general cuentan con subtítulos de tres líneas que se desplazan por la pantalla. La mayoría de los demás programas proporcionan subtítulos de dos o tres líneas ubicados cerca del personaje que habla, así el televidente puede seguir el diálogo. Las palabras en cursiva o subrayadas se utilizan para los títulos, las palabras en idiomas extranjeros o las palabras que requieren énfasis. Las palabras cantadas por lo general aparecen entre notas musicales. Cuando seleccione los subtítulos ocultos, el subtitulado tendrá un retraso de aproximadamente 10 segundos. Si no se recibe señal de subtítulos, no aparecerán los subtítulos, pero el televisor seguirá en el modo subtítulos. Durante la reproducción de los subtítulos ocultos, pueden aparecer ocasionalmente palabras mal escritas o caracteres inusuales. Esto es normal para el subtitulado oculto, especialmente con los programas en vivo. Esto sucede porque durante los programas en vivo, los subtítulos también se introducen en vivo. Esto le permite configurar la manera en que elije visualizar el subtitulado digital. Seleccione uno de los canales de servicio digital que pone a disposición el proveedor de subtitulados.

Existen 6 servicios estándar. El servicio 1 se denomina Servicio de Subtitulado Primario. Este servicio contiene los subtítulos palabra por palabra, o casi, del idioma original que se habla en el audio que acompaña al programa. El servicio 2 se denomina Servicio de Subtitulado Secundario.

Este servicio contiene subtitulados en un segundo idioma, que son la traducción de un

subtitulado en el Servicio de Subtitulado primario.

Los demás subcanales de servicio no están asignados previamente. La utilización de los

canales de servicio restantes depende de la discreción del proveedor.

La hora para el ahorro de energía se fija automáticamente con señales emitidas especialmente. Este elemento del menú le permite desactivar la configuración automática de tiempo de ahorro de energía. Esto es útil si vive en una zona o estado donde no se aplica el ahorro de energía, pero recibe canales de otras áreas donde se emiten señales de ahorro de energía.

Esta función le permite ir rápidamente al último programa que se miró.

1 Por ejemplo, el número de canal que

usó último es el 8 y el canal que está usando es el 18 (como se muestra en la figura).

2 Si desea volver al canal 8, que es el

último programa que se miró, simplemente presione el botón Q.View (Visualización rápida).

3 Si desea volver al canal 18, presione

el botón nuevamente. Con el uso de esta función, puede cambiar fácilmente del canal que está utilizando al canal que miró antes.

TEMPORIZADOR DE DESCONEXIÓN AUTOMÁTICA

Para configurar el televisor para que se apague después de una cantidad de tiempo prefijada, presione el botón SLEEP (DESCONEXIÓN AUTOMÁTICA) varias veces para seleccionar

la cantidad de minutos. En primer lugar, aparece la opción APAGADO en la pantalla, seguida de las siguientes opciones para el temporizador de desconexión automática:

1. Si no puede repararse la falla utilizando la guía anterior, consulte al centro de reparaciones autorizado más

cercano.

2. El equipo de televisión sólo debe ser reparado por una persona de reparaciones calificada y registrada. No intente nunca quitar la cubierta posterior, ya que el equipo de televisión tiene niveles de voltaje peligrosos adentro que pueden ser fatales o provocar incendios.

3. El gabinete puede producir “chasquidos" ocasionales. Esto es normal y lo provocan los materiales del gabinete que se expanden con los cambios en la temperatura ambiente.

Esto se denomina “aparición de fantasmas” y puede minimizarse con una antena aérea y con cable y terminaciones de buena calidad. El cambio de la dirección de la antena también puede minimizar este efecto.

Interferencia eléctrica que puede ser provocada por automóviles, motocicletas, lámparas fluorescentes y aislantes sucios sobre los cables de energía aéreos.

Asegúrese de que el suministro de energía esté conectado al equipo de televisión y que éste esté encendido. Asegúrese además de que el equipo de televisión no esté en el modo “Sólo escuchar” o que el brillo y el contraste no estén bajos.

La pureza del color es una falla que puede ser causada cuando se mueve el equipo de televisión, cuando se colocan imanes cerca de la pantalla de televisión o cuando se encienden o apagan electrodomésticos tales como aspiradoras cerca del televisor. Apague el televisor desde el interruptor principal durante 15 minutos. Cuando se encienda nuevamente el televisor, automáticamente se desmagnetizará la imagen. En casos graves, deje el televisor apagado toda la noche.
