DPS 5200 HIFI LOUDSPEAKERS
________________
The DPS 5200 HiFi loudspeakers are designed for operation with your Grundig AV receiver, which is in turn connected to your Grundig television or to other external devices.
Safety
To ensure that your loudspeakers provide you with long-term satisfaction and enjoyment, please observe the following instructions.
These loudspeakers are designed for the playback of audio signals in your home. Any other use is expressly prohibited.
When setting up the subwoofer, make sure that there is at least 20 cm of space at the side, above and at the back of the device.
The loudspeakers are designed for use in dry rooms. You must make sure that the device is protected from moisture such as rain or splashing water. Do not set up the loudspeakers near a heater or in direct sunlight.
Do not place any vessels containing fluids such as vases on the loudspeakers. These may be knocked over and spill fluid on the electrical components, thus presenting a safety risk. Do not place any objects such as burning candles on the loudspeakers.
Do not open the loudspeaker casing under any circumstances. The manufacturer will not accept any liability for damage resulting from improper handling.
Thunderstorms are a danger to all electrical devices. Even if the subwoofer is switched off, it can be damaged by a lightning strike to the mains. Always remove the mains plug before an electrical storm.
Cleaning
Clean the loudspeaker casing with a clean, moist leather cloth. Do not use any cleaning agent, as this may damage the casing.

Setting up the loudspeakers
As far as possible, set up the front loudspeakers in a line with the TV set, angled slightly towards the listener. The listener and the speakers should form an equilateral triangle. You thus achieve the best stereo effect.
The surround loudspeakers should be angled slightly towards one another at a sufficient distance behind the listener to the left and right. They should be positioned at ear-height, even when wall-mounted.
Set up the centre loudspeaker at the midpoint between the two front speakers, e.g. above or below the TV set. The best height for the centre loudspeaker is at the ear-height of the seated listener.
To achieve an optimal bass tone sound, we recommend that you set up the subwoofer to the left or right of the front loudspeakers, in such a way that the sound traverses the room along its diagonal.
When you are in the centre of the room, you may not be able to pick up the bass tone of the subwoofer sufficiently. This is caused by what are called standing waves, which occur between parallel walls. In this case, you just have to position the subwoofer facing the wall at an angle, or perhaps switch the phase over.
Avoid placing the loudspeakers in a corner, because this over-amplifies the bass tones.
Objects/curtains in front of the loudspeakers significantly impair the treble tones and the stereo effect.
Note:
Depending on where you position the speakers (e.g. on top of furniture), use the rubber stoppers included for the front, centre and surround speakers.
Please note that furniture surfaces are coated with many different types of varnish and plastic, most of which contain chemical additives. These additives can corrode the device supports, leaving residues on the furniture surfaces which can be difficult or impossible to remove.
Wall mounting of the surround loudspeakers
Fasten the wires of the loudspeaker cables to the input sockets of the surround loudspeakers before you wall-mount them.
1 Stick the rubber stoppers included (2 x ø 6 mm) to the two lower corners on
the back of the surround loudspeakers.
2 Drill two holes, push in two wall plugs and screw in the screws so that the
heads are jutting out approx. 6 mm.
3 Hang up the surround loudspeakers by means of the holes in the brackets.

Setting the impedance of the loudspeakers
All the loudspeakers in the DPS 5200 speaker set have a rated impedance of 4 . Before you connect the loudspeakers to the AV receiver, this value must be set on the AV receiver.
Connecting the loudspeakers
You must not touch the loudspeaker connections indicated with the symbol on the left during operation. To connect the loudspeakers, switch off the AV receiver and disconnect the mains.
Do not remove the insulation from too long a section of the loudspeaker cable wires, and twist them together properly before connecting them. Do not let any strands stick out, as this can cause short circuits.
To connect the loudspeaker cables, loosen the appropriate terminal screw on the back of the device and insert the wire into the opening provided. Then tighten the terminal screw again.
Note:
Check that the connection is secure by pulling lightly on the loudspeaker cable.
1 Use the loudspeaker cables included to connect the input sockets of the front
loudspeakers with the output sockets of the receiver, observing the polarity.
Note:
Connect the loudspeaker cable with the coloured marking to the »+« inputs and outputs, and the unmarked cable to the »–«. Connect the loudspeaker cable with the coloured marking to the red output socket of the AV receiver, and the unmarked cable to the black socket.
2 Use the loudspeaker cables included to connect the input sockets of the cent-
re loudspeaker with the output sockets of the receiver, observing the polarity.
3 Use the loudspeaker cables included to connect the input sockets of the surro-
und loudspeakers with the output sockets of the receiver, observing the polarity.
4 Use the audio cable included to connect the »AUDIO INPUT« socket of the
subwoofer with the »SUBWOOFER OUT« socket of the receiver.
5 Insert the subwoofer power cord plug into the socket.
Note:
Only connect the subwoofer to the mains when all the other system components have been completely connected.

Additional information for units (subwoofer) sold in the UK.
Units sold in the UK are suitable for operation from a 240V ac, 50Hz mains supply. The range of multi-system receivers is built to work in most European countries. However, the mains plug and socket system for the UK differs from many European countries. This appliance has been supplied with a fitted, non-removable, approved converter plug for use in the UK. This converter plug is fitted with a 5A rated fuse.
In case this appliance is supplied with a moulded 2-pin Euro plug only, which is unsuitable for UK operation, this must be cut off and immediately disposed of. An approved 13A, 3-pin UK plug should then be fitted by a qualified electrician.
Note:
The severed Euro plug must be destroyed to avoid a possible shock hazard should it be inserted into a socket elsewhere.
If a non-rewireable 3-pin plug or a rewireable 13A (BS1363) 3-pin plug is used, it must be fitted with a 5A ASTA or BSI approved BS1362 fuse. If any other type of plug is used it must be protected by a 5A fuse either in the plug, or at the distribution board. If this type of plug becomes defective, ensure that the fuse is removed before disposal, to eliminate potential shock hazard.
If it is necessary to change the fuse in the non-rewireable plug, the correct type and rating (5A ASTA or BSI approved BS1362) must be used and the fuse cover must be refitted. If the fuse cover is lost or damaged, the lead and plug must not be used until a replacement is obtained. Replacement fuse covers should be obtained from your dealer.
Important:
The wires in the mains lead are colour coded in accordance with the following code: BLUE – NEUTRAL
BROWN – LIVE As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of your appliance may not correspond with the coloured marking
identifying terminals in your plug, proceed as follows:
Connect the BLUE coloured wire to plug terminal marked with the letter “N” or coloured black. Connect the BROWN coloured wire to the plug terminal marked with the letter “L” or coloured red. In no circumstance must any of the wires be connected to the terminal marked with the letter “E”, earth symbol “
z”, coloured green, or green & yellow.
Replacement mains lead sets can be obtained from your local dealer, or by contacting Grundig Consumer Relations (01788 570088) Moulded 3-pin lead set, suitable for UK use:
