Please note the following instructions when setting up the system: The hi-fi system is designed for the playback of audio signals. Any other use
is expressly prohibited. If you want to set up the hi-fi system on wall shelves or in cupboards, please
ensure that it is adequately ventilated. There must be at least 10 cm of space at the side, above and behind the hi-fi system. Do not cover the hi-fi system with newspapers, table cloths, curtains, etc.
When setting up the hi-fi and the subwoofer, remember that furniture is often coated with various types of varnish and plastic, which often contain chemical additives. These additives may cause corrosion to the feet of the unit. This may leave stains on the surface of the furniture which can be difficult or impossible to remove.
If the hi-fi system is exposed to sudden changes in temperature, for example when taken from the cold into a warm room, wait at least two hours before using it.
Only use the hi-fi system in a moderate climate. The hi-fi system is designed for use in dry rooms. If you do use it outdoors,
make sure it is protected from moisture such as dripping or splashing water. Do not place the hi-fi system close to heating units or in direct sunlight, as
this will impair cooling. Do not place any vessels containing liquids, such as vases, on the hi-fi
system or the subwoofer. Do not insert any foreign objects in the CD compartment. Do not place any objects such as burning candles on the hi-fi system or the subwoofer.
Do not open the hi-fi system and the subwoofer casing under any circumstances. Warranty claims are excluded for damage resulting from improper handling.
Thunderstorms are a danger to all electrical devices. Even if the hi-fi system is switched off, it can be damaged by a lightning strike to the mains or the antenna cable. Always disconnect the mains and antenna plugs during a storm.
If malfunctions occur due to brief mains overloads or static electricity charges, reset the device. To do this, pull out the power plug and connect it again after a few seconds or press »Reset«.

Connecting the subwoofer and power cord
Notes:
Check that the mains voltage on the type plate on the bottom of the hi-fi system corresponds to your local mains supply. The device is connected to the mains with the power cord. Pull out the power cord when you want to completely disconnect the device from the mains.
1 Plug the subwoofer cable into the »To Subwoofer« socket on
the back of the hi-fi system.
2 Connect the other plug on the subwoofer cable into the »TO
MAIN UNIT« socket on the right side of the subwoofer.
3 Plug the »230 V~ 50/60 Hz« power cord into the socket on
the left side of the subwoofer.
Note:
Unplug the power supply unit to disconnect the system from the mains. Make sure the power plug is easily accessible during operation and not hindered by other objects.
Connecting the antennas
1 Plug the roof antenna cable into the antenna socket »FM
Antenna (75 Ω)« on the back of the hi-fi system. Note:
You can also use the auxiliary antenna supplied instead of the roof antenna. This antenna provides reasonably good reception of local FM (VHF) channels. Do not shorten the auxiliary antenna.
2 Plug the loop antenna cable supplied into the »AM Antenna«
socket on the back of the hi-fi system. Adjust the position of the wire loop antenna until you get the best reception.
Connecting the headphones
1 Insert the headphone plug (3.5 mm) into the »y« socket on top
of the hi-fi. – The loudspeakers of the hi-fi system are switched off.
Note:
Excessive volume levels when using headphones or earphones can damage your hearing.

Connecting external devices
1 Connect the audio output of the external device to the audio
input socket »Aux In« on top of the hi-fi system using a stereo jack plug (3.5 mm).
2 Connect the audio output socket »Aux Out« on the back of
the hi-fi system to the audio input socket of the external device with a stereo jack plug (3.5 mm).
Note:
Switch the hi-fi system off before you connect external devices.
Connecting an MP3 player
The hi-fi system supports most MP3 players.
1 Switch off the hi-fi system. 2 Plug the USB cable of the MP3 player into the USB interface
» « on top of the hi-fi system.
Note:
Switch off the hi-fi system before you pull out the USB cable.
Inserting the back-up batteriy
During mains operation, the back-up battery ensures that stored settings are not lost in the case of a power failure or when the device is briefly disconnected from the mains.
1 Open the »Battery« compartment on the back of the hi-fi
system by pressing down on the cover.
2 When inserting the batteriy (1 x CR2032, 3 V, lithium), make
sure the positive terminal (+) is facing upwards (see the marking on the cover).
3 Close the battery compartment by putting on the lid and push-
ing it upwards.
Notes:
Do not expose the battery to extreme heat, caused for example by direct sunlight, heaters or fire.
Take out the back-up battery when you know that the device will not be used for a long period of time. The manufacturer accepts no liability for damage caused by leaking batteries.

3 Put the battery compartment cover back on by pushing it
upwards until it latches in.
Notes:
Do not expose the battery to extreme heat, caused for example by direct sunlight, heaters or fire.
If the device no longer reacts properly to remote control commands, the battery may be flat. Always remove used batteries. The manufacturer accepts no liability for damage caused by leaking batteries.

Setting the time
When connecting up the hi-fi system to the main power supply for the first time, switch to standby mode. The clock flashes in the display to indicate that it needs to be set. When this setting is being made, if no button is pushed for more than 10 seconds, the hi-fi system will end the process automatically. You then have to start again.
1 Hold down »CLOCK« on the hi-fi until »24 HOUR« appears in
the display.

RDS time synchronisation
Some RDS stations transmit an RDS time signal. If reception is good, this time information updates the time automatically if you have selected the »CT ON« option. The hi-fi system is suitable for music CDs bearing the logo shown here (CD-DA), and for CD-Rs and CD-RWs with audio data or MP3 formats.
In MP3 mode, the terms “album” and “file” are very important. “Album” corresponds to a folder on a PC, “file” to a file on a PC or a CD-DA track. An MP3 CD may not contain more than 99 albums and 400 tracks in total.
The hi-fi system sorts the albums, or the tracks on an album, by name into alphabetical order. If you want to order them differently, change the name of the track or album and put a number before the name.
When burning CD-R and CD-RWs with audio files, various problems may arise which could lead to problems with playback. This can be caused by faulty software or hardware settings or by the CD being used. Should such problems arise, contact the customer services of your CD burner or software manufacturer or look for relevant information, for example on the Internet. When you are making audio CDs, observe all legal guidelines and ensure that the copyright of third parties is not infringed.
Do not attach adhesive labels to CDs. Keep the surfaces of CDs clean.
Note:
The CD drive in the hi-fi system is only suitable for 12 cm CDs.

Playing the content of an MP3 player
1 Plug the USB cable into the USB interface » « on top of the
hi-fi system.
2 Switch on the hi-fi and press »FLASH« to select the USB input
source. – Display: briefly »READING FLASH«, the total number of

Notes:
Only MP3 and WMA (without DRM) formats can be read using the USB interface. For MP3 operation with an MP3 player, the same playback and search functions are available as for CD operation (see pages 24 to 25). It is not possible to create a playlist.
Notes:
The USB interface of this hi-fi system is a standard interface. All currently known MP3 chip concepts were taken into account when it was developed. Due to rapid developments in MP3 technology and new manufacturers appearing every day, the compatibility of MP3 players/USB memory sticks can only be partially guaranteed. If USB operation is impaired or is not possible, this does not indicate a malfunction of the hi-fi system.
Note:
Bi-directional data transfer as defined for ITE devices in EN 55022/EN 55024 is not possible. USB transfer is not in itself an operating mode. It is only an additional function.
