Safety
To ensure that this device provides you with long-term satisfaction and
enjoyment, please observe the following instructions.
This device is designed for the playback of audio signals.
Any other use is expressly prohibited.
Please ensure that the device is protected from moisture (dripping or splashing water), direct sunlight and heat.
When deciding where to place the device, please note that furniture surfaces
are covered by various types of varnish and plastic, most of which contain
chemical additives. These additives can corrode the material of the device,
resulting in residues on the furniture surfaces which are difficult or impossible to remove.
Never touch the lens on the device.
The device contains self-lubricating bearings, which must not be oiled or
greased.
Condensation may form on the lens if the device is taken into a warm room
from the cold. This prevents it from playing a CD.
Always keep the disc compartment closed to prevent dust from collecting on
the lens.
Never open the device casing. No warranty claims are accepted for
damage resulting from improper handling.
Cleaning
If the device is unable to scan CDs perfectly, use a standard, commercially
available cleaning CD to clean the laser optics. Other cleaning methods may
damage the laser optics.
To clean a CD, breathe on it and wipe it with a soft, lint-free cloth from the
middle towards the edge.
Clean the device with a clean, damp leather cloth. Do not use cleaning
agents, as these may damage the casing or the CD.
Environmental note
As little material as possible was used in the packaging of your device.
It can be divided into two separate materials: cardboard (box) and polyethylene (bag).
Please observe the local regulations for disposing of the packing material.
Batteries, including those which contain no heavy metal, may not be
disposed of with household waste. Please dispose of used batteries in an
environmentally sound manner. Find out about the legal regulations which
apply in your area.

Mains operation (with mains adapter)
Notes:
Check if the mains voltage on the mains adapter type plate corresponds
to your local mains supply.
The only way to disconnect the device from the mains supply is to
unplug the adapter. Only unplug the mains adapter from the socket
when you are not using the device.

Using rechargeable nickel metal hydride
batteries
When using the rechargeable nickel metal hydride batteries supplied
(Ni-MH, 2 x 1.2 V, size: LH-P1350 F6L/1350 mAh) only use the mains
adapter supplied as a charging device.
1 Open the lid of the battery compartment under the CD lid.
2 Insert the rechargeable batteries, observing the polarity marked in the
battery compartment.
3 Plug the mains adapter into the »DC IN 4.5V

device and plug the mains adapter into the mains socket.
4 To start the charging process, press »
ı II« and hold it down for more
than 1 second.
– Display: »CHECK OK«, afterwards the charging time appears.
– If the rechargeable batteries are fully charged, »FULL« appears in the
display. The device then switches off automatically.
Notes:
Completely charge up the batteries before you first use them or if you
have not used them for a long time.
The charging time is approximately 8 hours when the device is stopped.
Do not use the device during charging. At the end of the charging
process, disconnect the device from the mains adapter immediately as
the rechargeable batteries continue to consume a small current.
The ambient temperature should be between 5°C and 40°C.
If you have disconnected the mains adapter from the mains, playback
using the rechargeable batteries is only possible if you pull the adapter
cable out of the »DC IN 4.5V

When the batteries become weak, a battery symbol appears in the
display.
Take out the batteries when you know that the device will not be used for
a long period of time.

Connecting the earphones and the remote control

Connect the earphones to the

socket on the remote control
(ø 3.5 mm).
2 Connect the remote control to the »0« socket on the CD player.
Notes:
You can also connect the earphones directly to the device. If you do this,
however, the remote control will not work.
Excessive volume can be hazardous to yourself and other road users.
Listen at a volume which still allows you to hear outside noises clearly,
for instance horns, emergency vehicles and police cars.
This portable CD player and headphones meets the requirements set out
in Articles LL44.5 and 6 of the German safety regulations.
The output of the device guarantees the best possible sound at medium
volume. Prolonged listening at loud volumes can damage your hearing.
Adjusting the volume
1 Adjust the volume with »VOL +« or »VOL –« on the device or on the
remote control.
Sound settings
Depending on the type of music you are listening to, you can select between
Flat, Classic, Jazz, Pop, Rock and Flat again.
1 During playback, press »DAS/EQ/FIND« on the remote control for
longer than 1 second.
– Display: briefly, e.g. »CLASSIC«.
2 Set the desired sound setting by pressing »DAS/EQ/FIND« as many
times as necessary.
– Display: briefly, e.g. »POP«.
Note:
For playback via a Hi-fi system, the »FLAT« sound setting should be
selected, as this produces a well-balanced sound.
Ultra Bass System
1 Switch the Ultra Bass System on and off using the sliding switch
» UBS« on the remote control.

Disabling and enabling the buttons
You can lock the buttons on the device to prevent them from being accidentally pressed.

Inserting a CD
The device is suitable for music CDs displaying the logo shown here
(CD-DA) and for CD-Rs and CD-RWs with audio data or MP3 formats.
As well as standard 12 cm CDs, it can also play
8 cm CDs without an
adapter.
Do not attach adhesive labels to CDs. Keep the surfaces of CDs clean.

2 Insert the CD with the label facing upwards and gently push the centre
of the CD to latch it into place.

Digital anti-shock system (DAS)
When you are playing back MP3s format files, the digital anti-shock system
is activated automatically. It reads the files up to 480 seconds (MP3) in
advance. This prevents interruptions due to shocks and vibrations.
For CD-DAs, the anti-shock system reads the data up to 160 seconds in
advance. If you switch on the device with »

II« to begin the playback of a
CD-DA, the digital anti-shock system is activated automatically. The antishock system can be switched on and off during the playback of a CD-DA.
1 Press »DAS/EQ/FIND« to switch off the anti-shock system.
– Display: » « disappears from the display.
Notes:
When you switch the anti-shock system on or off, playback is delayed or
briefly interrupted.

MP3 mode
In MP3 mode, the terms “directory” and “file” are very important. “Directory”
corresponds to a folder on a PC, “File” to a file on a PC or a CD-DA track.
When naming files in MP3 format, do not use any special characters as they
will not appear on the display.
Many functions are identical in the MP3 and CD-DA modes. However, different information is displayed. The following sections apply primarily to the
MP3 mode. The CD-DA mode is of secondary importance in this section.
CD playback
The device automatically recognises the type of CD inserted (CD-DA, CD-R,
CD-RW).

– Display: »READING« flashes.
– Display in MP3 mode: the number of files up to their total e.g. »087
TRK«.
– Playback of the CD inserted starts automatically. It starts with the first
file of the first directory or the first track. If no CD has been inserted,

Selecting another file or track
1 During playback, keep pressing »5a« or »s6« until the number of the
file or track you want to hear appears in the display.
– Playback of the selected file or track starts automatically.
Searching for a passage within a file or track
1 During playback, press »5a« or »s6« and hold it down until you
have found the desired passage.
– Display in MP3 or CD-DA mode: the playing time of the file or track in
rapid run-through.
– During the search the volume is reduced.
Notes:
The rapid search functions in all playback modes, such as Program,
Random, Repeat, etc.
The intro function is cancelled when the search is started.
Selecting directories and files (MP3 only)
In MP3 mode, you can play back CDs with up to 8 directory
levels. The maximum number of directories that can be played back is 200.
The maximum number of files that can be played back is 500.
1 During playback, press »DAS/EQ/FIND« twice.
– Display: the first directory.
– The directory search function is activated.

This function enables you to save up to 64 files or tracks on the current CD in
a particular order and then play them back. You can save the same file or
track a number of times.

Playback via a HiFi system
1 Turn down the volume on the HiFi.
2 Plug a standard cinch cable with a 3.5 mm stereo jack plug into the
»LINE OUT« socket on the device and the audio input on the HiFi
system.
Notes:
Switch the sound setting of the device to »FLAT« and set the volume to
maximum. You can adjust the volume and the sound on the HiFi system.

This device conforms to the safety regulation DIN EN 60065 (VDE 0860)
