MICROSD CARDS
You’ll need a mi croSD™ card (sold se parately) to save your videos and photos. Use a b rand name c ard that ts the se requirem ents:
• microSD, mi croSDHC™, or mi croSDXC™
• Class 10 or U HS-I rating
• Capacity up to 256GB

Head s Up: Be sure yo ur hands are c lean and dr y before hand ling your SD card. Check the manufacturer’s gui delines to se e your card’s acceptable temperature range and other important information.
PRO TIP: Keep your SD c ard in good co ndition by refo rmatting it regular ly. This will eras e all of your med ia, so be sure to s ave it rst.
1. Swipe down to access the Dashboard.
2. Tap Preferences > Reset > Format SD Card.

1. Un lock the Do or Latch and  ip the door o pen.
2. With your ca mera o, insert t he SD card into the c ard slot with the label facing the battery compartment.
You can eject th e card by press ing it into the slot w ith your ngernail.

3. Insert the battery.
4. Connect your ca mera to a USB cha rger or computer using the included USB-C cable.
It takes abo ut 3.5 hours fo r the battery to fu lly charge. T he camera status light w ill turn o when it’s done. To learn more, se e Battery

5. Unplug the cable a nd shut the door when cha rging’s compl ete. Be sure the D oor Latch is closed and l ocked before using your ca mera.
PRO TIP: Make sure you battery is full y charged before heading out. For the fastest charging, use the GoPro Supercharger (sold separately).

To get the latest features and best pe rforman ce from your Go Pro, make sure it’s usi ng the most cu rrent software.
Updating With the GoPro App
1. Download the app from the Apple© App Store© or Google Play™.
2. Follow the app’s on-screen instructions to connect your camera to your mobile device. If new camera software is available, the app will tell you how to install it.

1. Downl oad the app from gopro.com/apps.
2. Connec t your came ra to your computer using the i nclude d USB-C ca ble. If new camera software is available, the app will tell you how to inst all it.
Updating Manually
1. Visit gopro.com/update.
2. Choose MAX from the list of cameras.
3. Select Update your camera manually and follow the instructions.

Recording Video
Mark favorite moments in yo ur videos a nd photos by pres sing the Mo de button during re cording or p layback. T his adds a Hi Light Tag that makes thos e moments ea sier to nd wh en you’re watching you r footage, creating a vi deo, or loo king for a cer tain shot.
You can also ad d HiLight Tags usi ng the GoPro a pp or saying “G oPro HiLight” wh en Voice Contro l is on.
PRO TIP: QuikStories looks for HiLight Tags when it creates videos. This helps ensure that favorite moments are included in your stories.

VIDEO
This mod e shoots 360 s pherica l video in resolution s up to 5.7K. You can also capt ure traditional video u sing eithe r the front or bac k lens. The default set tings for trad itional vi deo are 1440p24 video with a 4:3 a spect ratio, Wide  eld of view, and Auto Low L ight set to Auto.

Taking Photos
Your GoPro has fo ur Photo capture modes. Thre e of these mod es–Photo, Burst, an d Night–can capt ure spheri cal or tradi tional photo s. The fouth mode, Panoramic, c an be used wi th either the fro nt or back le ns.
Spheri cal photos are c aptured at 16. 6MP. Panoramic ph otos are taken at
6.2MP. Traditional photo are c aptured at 3.15 MP. Each mod e has its own settings.
PHOTO
Use this mo de to capture a sin gle photo or a se ries of contin uous photos . A single press of the Shut ter button will c apture a sing le photo.
Press and h old the Shutter button to take continu ous photos at a rate of 3 or 30 per second (depending on lighting conditions). The default eld of view for Photos is W ide with Sup erPhoto turned o.
PANORAMIC
Panoram ic photos are ta ken at 6.2MP.
BURST
Burst captures photos at blistering rate s of up to 30 per sec ond. This makes it great for action shots. The d efault eld of v iew for Burst is Wide with a rate of 30 photos in 1 se cond.
NIGHT
In Night mo de your cam era’s shutter stays o pen long er to let in more li ght. It’s perfect for d im or dark sc enes, but n ot recomme nded for ha ndheld or mounted s hots when the ca mera is movi ng. The defau lt eld of view for Night is Wi de with the Shut ter set to Auto.

Your GoPro has  ve Time Lap se capture mo des that capture both 360 spherical and traditional content: TimeWarp Video, Time Lapse Video, Night Lap se Video, Time Lapse Photo, and Night L apse Photo. Ea ch mode has i ts own settings .
TIMEWARP VIDEO
MAX lets you speed up tim e by capturin g super sta bilized time l apse vide o while you’re on the m ove. This make s it perfect fo r mountain b ike runs, hikes, and m ore. The default setting s are 1440p video wi th a 4:3 aspect ratio and Wide  eld of view at 10x speed.
TIME LAPSE VIDEO
Time Lapse Video lets you turn long events into short shareable videos. It’s great for suns ets, street sce nes, and m ore when your c amera is stil l. The defaul t settings are 1440p video with a 4:3 aspect ratio, Wide eld of view, and 0.5-second interval.
NIGHT L APSE VIDEO
Use Night Lapse Vide o to capture time l apse vide o in dark and l ow-light settings.
TIME LAPSE PHOTO
Time Lap se Photo lets you fo cus on your a ctivity instea d of on your camera. It takes a contin uous seri es of photos that yo u can look through to nd the bes t shots later. The defaul t settings a re 0.5-seco nd interval s with a Wide e ld of view.
NIGHT LAPSE PHOTO
Night Lap se Photo was made for capturi ng a series of p hotos in dark environments. The shutter stays open longer to let in more light. The defaul t shutter speed and inter val are set to Auto with the eld of view set to Wide.

Exposure Control
MAX sca ns the entire sc ene to choos e the exposure l evel for your shot. Exposure C ontrol lets you d ecide if on ly a section of th e shot shoul d be used to set the exp osure.
Check ou t the shot preview o n your touch sc reen. Try Exposu re Control if there are se ctions that are too dark or too li ght.
SETTING EXPOSURE CONTROL USING AUTO EXPOSURE
With this option, the camera automatically bases exposure on the area that you select.
Imagin e your came ra is mounted o n your dashb oard. You probab ly want to set the exposu re based on th e scene outside the car instead of the dashbo ard. This will help prevent yo ur shots from be ing overexpos ed (to o b ri ght).
1. Pres s the touch scre en until a set of bra ckets with a dot in the m iddle appear s in the center of the s creen. This is the Spot Mete r. It will base the exposure on the center of the s hot.
2. Drag the brackets away from the center if you wa nt to use another area of the shot to set the exposure. (You ca n also tap tha t area instead of dra gging the b rackets.)
3. Check the s creen to see if th e exposure lo oks good. Tap in the lower right corner.

With this opti on, your cam era locks th e exposure unti l you cance l it.
If you’re snowboa rding on a sun ny day, you might try lo cking the exp osure on your sub ject’s jacket. This will help prevent your shots fro m being underexposed (too dark) compared to the bright sn ow.
1. Pres s the touch scre en until a set of bra ckets with a dot in the m iddle appear s in the center of the s creen. This is the Spot Mete r. It will base the exposure on the center of the s hot.
2. Drag the brackets away from the center if you wa nt to use another area of the shot to set the exposure. (You ca n also tap tha t area instead of dra gging the b rackets.)
3. Tap inside the bra ckets to lock the exp osure.

If you are new to ca pturing sph erical co ntent, below are s ome tips to hel p you get the be st results from M AX.
• MAX captures everything around you camera is pointed. However, for best results, aim one of the lenses directly at the main subject.
• OverCapture lets you capture content in all directions from a single point of view. So, you do not need as many cameras to ensure that you get the shot. And you can select the content that is important to you after you capture.
• For the best results, attach MAX to the mounts that came with the camera. Using the mounts moves the camera away from your hand and helps reduce the chances that your hand appears in the shot.

Choose h ow often your GoP ro snaps a sh ot in Night Lap se Photo mode. Night Lap se intervals are Auto, 4, 5, 10, 15, 2 0, and 30 sec onds, and 1 , 2, 5, 30, and 60 minutes.
Auto (default) syncs the Inter val with the Shu tter setting. If the shutter speed is s et to 10 secon ds and Interval is set to Auto, your c amera captures a p hoto every 10 se conds.
