1. Suitable Uses for Your GARDENA Pressure Tank Unit

Correct use:

GARDENA Pressure Tank Units have been designed for private use

around the house and garden. Pressure Tank Units are predomin-

antly used for operating watering implements and systems in

private gardens.

When using the pump for pressure intensification, the maximum

permissible internal pressure of 6 bar (on the delivery side) must

not be exceeded. The increased delivery pressure and the pump

pressure have to be added together.

• Example: pressure at the tap = 1.5 bar, maximum pressure of

the Pressure Tank Unit 4000/4 LCD = 4.4 bar, total pressure =

5.9 bar.

Liquids that can be pumped:

The GARDENA Pressure Tank Unit can be used for pumping rain-

water, tap water and chlorinated swimming pool water.

Please note:

The GARDENA Pressure Tank Unit is not suitable for continuous

operation (e.g. industrial applications, continuous circulating

operation). Corrosive, easily combustible, aggressive or

explosive liquids (such as gasoline, petroleum or nitrothinner),

saltwater and food must not be pumped. The temperature of

the liquid must not exceed 35 °C.

Empty your Pressure Tank Unit before the first frost of the

season (see 6. Putting into Storage).

2. Safety Instructions

Warning! Electric shock!

Risk of injury due to electric shock.

Always unplug your Garden Pump before filling, after operation, when troubleshooting and before carrying out any maintenance work.

Location

Caution: Pursuant to DIN VDE 0100-702 and 0100-738 use of the pump near to swimming pools and garden ponds and other similar places is only permissible if the pump is operated via a residual-current device (FI switch) with a residual current rating of 30 mA. The pump must not be operated when there are persons in the swimming pool or garden pond. The pump must be located on solid, even ground, protected from flooding. Take care that the pump cannot fall into water. As an additional safety device an authorised safety switch can be used.

Please ask your electrician for advice.

Extension cables

Data indicated on the type plate must match technical data of the mains supply.

Pursuant to DIN VDE 0620, power cable as well as extension cables must not have a smaller diameter than rubber sheathed cables described with letter symbols H07 RNF.

Protect the power cable from heat, oil and sharp edges.

Do not use the power cable for carrying the pump or for unplugging.

For your safety

Pollution of the liquid could occur due to leakage of lubricants. The appliance is not intended for use by young children or infirm persons without supervision. Young children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or its service agent or a similary qualified person in order to avoid a hazard.

Visual check

Before operating the pump, first make a visual check, if there is any damage to the pump (especially regarding power cable and plug).

A damaged pump must not be used.

In case of damage, please have the pump checked by our GARDENA Service Centre or by an authorised electrician.

Safety in operation

Protect the pump from rain. Do not use the pump in a wet or moist area.

In order to avoid dry-running of the pump, take care that the end of the suction hose is always submerged into the water.

Before each operation, fill the pump to overflowing with approx. 2 to 3 l of water to be pumped!

When in manual mode for troubleshooting, the pump may not be operated for longer than

10 min. with the output side closed (1 cycle). The pump must not perform more than 4 suction cycles (duration 4 minutes respectively) one after the other.

Allow pump to cool down after this.

Sand and other abrasive substances in the water cause increased wear and reduce the pump’s output.

Use a preliminary filter on the pump if the water is sandy.

The minimum flow rate is 140 l/h (= 2.3 l/min). Watering accessories with lower rate must not be operated.

When using the pump for domestic water supply, please adhere to the local water and sewerage regulations. In addition observe the regulations of DIN 1988.

If necessary, contact your local water authority.

3. Function and Display

The automatic pressure tank unit is electronically controlled. The electronic control is activated by pulses from the manometric switch and from the throughput detector of the dry-running preventer. The manometric switch is set to a switch-on pressure of approx 2.0 bar (= 20 m head) at the factory.

4. Using the Equipment for the First Time

Position of equipment:

The point at which the unit is erected must be sound, dry and well

ventilated and must permit the automatic Pressure Tank Unit to be

set up in a stable position.

Locate the pump at safe distance from the water.

Install automatic domestic

The mounting plate prevents the pump slipping.

water system permanently:

1. Screw mounting plate on to an appropriate base.

2. Place pump on the base with both feet .

Set up the pump such that a suitably large container can be

positioned below the drain screw for emptying the pump or unit.

If possible, install the pump higher than the surface of the water to

be pumped. If this is not possible, install a vacuum-resistant shut-

off device between the pump and the suction hose, for example

for cleaning the integrated filter.

If you install your Pressure Tank Unit permanently indoors to

supply water for domestic use, connect your Pressure Tank Unit

to the pipe network using flexible hoses rather than rigid pipes.

This will help reduce noise and prevent damage to the mano-

metric switch due to vibration.

If the system is being installed permanently, please fit suitable

shut-off devices on both the intake and delivery sides. This is

important e.g. for maintenance and cleaning work or if the system

is being shut down.

Connect the hose to the suction side:

Art. 1723 /

Art. 1724

The connection pieces on the intake and delivery sides must

only be tightened by hand.

Do not use any water hose snap connection system components on the intake side. A vacuum-tight suction hose must be used e.g.

• GARDENA Suction Hose art. G1411

To reduce the pump repriming time, we recommend:

using a suction hose with backflow preventer, which prevents the suction hose emptying automatically when the Pressure Tank Unit is switched off

If the suction heights are high, use a suction hose with a small diameter.

1.Connect vacuum-tight suction hose via a connection pieceto the connection on the intake side

and screw in place so that it is airtight.

2.For suction heights exceeding 4 m also secure the suction hose (e.g. by fastening it to a wooden post).

This relieves the pump of the weight of the suction hose.

If very fine dirt is present, we recommend the use of a GARDENA pump preliminary filter art. G1731 in addition to the integrated filter.
