Fostex FR-2 Quick Start Guide

FR-2 Software Update Procedures

1. Prepare a Compact Flash (CF) card used on FR-2.

2. Copy the software file (e.g. fr02_mv1.03) to the CF card root directory by either the following method.

1) Insert the CF card into a CF card reader / writer connected to your PC (Windows 98SE, ME, 2000 or XP) USB
port.

2) Put FR-2 into the USB mode. Then, connect FR-2 to PC (Windows ME, 2000 or XP) USB port using USB
cable.

3. Power OFF FR-2 (if it is powered ON).

4. Insert the CF card into the FR-2 CF card slot.

5. While pulling the REC lever to the right, power on FR-2.

Until the following will appear on the LCD, keep on pulling the REC lever. The example below indicates that the
current software V1.02 is going to be updated to V1.03.

6. Press the MENU/ENTER knob to start updating the software. After about 20 seconds or so, “Completed!”, “4
digits checksum” and “Please wait!” messages appear on the LCD. Then, FR-2 automatically shuts off.

7. Confirm if the FR-2 software has been correctly updated to the latest one by “MENU -> SETUP -> Version” and
pressing the MENU/ENTER key.

8. Power on FR-2. Initialize the SETUP settings by “MENU -> Setup -> Init Setup” and pressing the MENU/

ENTER knob (twice).
