When customers ask about the E-Series horsepower figures, explain to
them that torque is what gets a big load moving and horsepower
keeps it moving. Torque measures towing and hauling power, a more
important number than straight horsepower, which isn’t as important
for truck applications. You’ll also find that many Ford trucks hold a
torque advantage in comparison against competitors.
Application Tip
Triton®Modular Engine Family
• One camshaft in each cylinder head eliminates the need
for pushrods
• Single Overhead Cam (SOHC) design provides an
advanced level of valve control
• Deep-skirt engine block design and low-friction components
enhance reliability and fuel economy
• Silent-design chain cam drive contributes to reduced noise
Electronic Throttle Control
• Standard on all E-Series models
• Uses electronic sensors instead of a mechanical linkage
• Uses driver input to actively modulate torque at the drive
wheels, as opposed to sensing torque at the flywheel, as
some competitive systems do
• Delivers seamless and consistent engine response and
transmission shifts
• When going up a hill or on rocky terrain, Electronic Throttle
Control (ETC) allows consistent pedal input for smoother
engine response
Engine Oil Cooler
All E-Series models are equipped with an auxiliary
engine oil cooler, mounted at the front of the vehicle behind
the grille. The engine oil cooler:
• Helps the engine oil maintain proper operating temperature,
preventing oxidation and increasing the oil’s lubricating and
protecting properties
• Contributes to longer engine life, lower emissions and better
fuel economy
California Emissions (422) is no longer available, replaced by
50 State Emissions (425).
• Standard on all Wagons with 7-, 8- or 11-passenger seating

E-Series Wagon
Diesel Engine Specifics
Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) Specifics
The available 6.0L Power Stroke®V-8 turbo diesel engine offers
the following benefits:
• 235 horsepower @ 3300 rpm and
440 lb.-ft. of torque @ 2000 rpm
• Cast iron engine block and cylinder heads with a stiffened
bedplate structure for more durability and lower NVH (noise,
vibration and harshness)
Similar to a variable-nozzle turbocharger, the Electronic
Variable Response Turbocharger (EVRT) on the 6.0L Power
Stroke allows the position of the turbine blades to change
based on demand. This helps increase airflow within the
turbocharger. The significantly increased airflow delivers
turbo boost for outstanding performance in many highdemand driving situations:
• Steep grade climbing• High-altitude driving
• Towing• Off-the-line acceleration
when loaded
Lower 6.0L Power Stroke®NVH
The 6.0L Power Stroke V-8 turbo diesel engine has a number
of features to help reduce NVH:
• A rigid bedplate on the bottom of the engine stiffens the
engine block to help reduce vibration
• The block ribbing structure is designed to reduce vibration
and powertrain bending
• Damped steel oil pan helps reduce noise transmission
• The rear gear train provides the durability of gear-drive
technology to help reduce NVH
Lower Diesel Emissions
Exhaust Gas Recirculation (Cooled EGR) technology means
that a portion of the exhaust gas is rerouted through a cooler,
and then the cooled exhaust gas is reintroduced into the fresh
air charge. Here are the benefits:
• The system helps reduce the flame temperature during
combustion, thus helping to reduce NOx emissions
• Older methods to control NOx emissions often relied on
delayed injection timing, which sometimes sacrificed fuel
economy. This EGR technology helps optimize emissions
control and fuel economy
With the introduction of the new Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel fuel in
October 2006, Ford has released the following guidelines:
• 2007 and earlier E-Series vehicles built with the
6.0L Power Stroke
®
turbo diesel engine have a “carryover”
2006 style engine and are not required by federal
mandate to use the Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuel
• Until ULSD (15 ppm [parts per million] sulfur) is available in
October 2006, all diesel fuel pumps selling Low Sulfur
Diesel (LSD) (500 ppm sulfur) must use labels required
by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) beginning
June 1, 2006. The labels for these pumps state:
“WARNING: Federal law prohibits use in model year
2007 and later highway vehicles and engines”
• This is not the case for 2007 vehicles with the carryover
2006 engines; therefore, both Low Sulfur and Ultra Low
Sulfur diesel fuels can be used in these vehicles
Frequently Asked Question
How do these changes impact 2007 E-Series with the
6.0L engine?
ULSD can be used in the E-Series 6.0L engines for 2007 and
earlier model years. Specific information regarding the
2007MY E-Series will be published in October 2006
consistent with Job 1 launch.
An electronically controlled 4-speed wide-ratio automatic
overdrive transmission is standard on all E-150 and E-350
models with the 4.6L or 5.4L SOHC Triton
®
engines.

smooth shifts for optimum performance
• Overdrive lowers engine rpm at highway speeds,
contributing to improved fuel economy
• “Smart” fully electronic shift scheduling coupled with the
Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) technology calculates torque in
the next gear and regulates shift points based on the vehicles’
projected performance in the next gear
• Adaptive pressure control maintains consistent shift response
and feel over time
An electronically controlled 5-speed automatic overdrive
transmission that represents the highest level of transmission
performance. This transmission is standard on all E-Series
Wagon models with the 6.0L Power Stroke
®
V-8 turbo diesel
engine (does not include Tow/Haul).

AdvanceTrac with RSC (Roll Stability
Control) is an electronic stability
enhancement system that works to improve
control on slippery, low-traction road
surfaces and to help counteract excessive
vehicle roll motion.
How Does It Work?
AdvanceTrac with RSC integrates the
functions of four major vehicle control
systems to keep the vehicle traveling along
the driver’s intended path with all four
wheels in contact with the road.
The four major vehicle control systems are:
Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) – regulates brake pressure to
help prevent wheel lockup during severe braking situations,
allowing the driver to steer and control the vehicle.
Traction Control – a system that will quickly respond to any
loss of traction by reducing engine power and/or applying
brake force to the slipping wheel.
Yaw Control – this system helps to prevent fishtailing
(oversteer) or skidding (understeer) by also reducing engine
power or selectively applying force to individual brakes.
Vehicle Roll Motion Sensor – the sensor is used to measure the
roll rate of the vehicle, up to 150 times per second, and if it
detects vehicle instability, it will instantly and automatically
engage the proper vehicle control system in order to regain
control and help keep all four wheels safely on the ground.
Most competitive vehicle systems do not include roll motion
sensor and only estimate vehicle roll motion.
Benefits — AdvanceTrac with RSC adds confident stopping,
amazing grip, responsive handling and added stability.
Availability
AdvanceTrac with RSC is standard equipment on all E-350

The ability to maneuver through crowded streets, narrow country lanes or squeezed-tight boat ramps can save time for a family
on the go. That makes the E-Series’ tight turning diameter as impressive as any 0–60 mph figures.

Turning Diameter
The combination of the proper front axle equipment results in an important truck
performance specification. The turning diameter is defined as the diameter of the
outside track made by the outside front tire during the shortest turn. The diagram
shows the diameter made by the outside edge of the bumper during the shortest turn.
NOTE: When comparing competitive truck specifications, note whether they spec a
diameter or radius dimension.

A CLOSER LOOK: Testing
The rigorous durability testing simulates 150,000 real-life
miles but compresses that into 50,000 actual grueling miles.
In fact, the testing route is probably harder on the drivers
than it is on the vehicles. Why put E-Series through such
extreme testing? The tests are based on what E-Series owners
actually do to their vehicles — and it has to meet their
expectations.

Safety Specifics
Second Generation Driver Airbag
Supplemental Restraint System (SRS)
• Standard on all E-Series Wagons
• The airbag provides additional protection in certain
moderate-to-severe frontal and near-frontal collisions
• When used with properly worn safety belts, airbags
represent one of the most effective occupant-protection
systems available today
• Three-point front safety belts should be properly worn at
all times
• Lap belts should fit snugly and as low as possible around
the hips
• All occupants should sit with their backs firmly against
the seatbacks
Second Generation Right Front Passenger
Airbag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS)
• Standard on all E-Series Wagons
• Children under 12 years of age should not sit in a seat
equipped with an airbag
• A rear-facing child safety seat should never be placed in
front of an airbag

E-Series Wagon
Safety Belt Pretensioners
• In certain frontal collisions, the
pretensioners for the driver and right
front outboard safety belts are
triggered by the same sensor that
triggers airbag inflation
Safety Belt Pretensioners
• Before airbag inflation, the pretensioner
mechanism tightens the safety belt
being worn by the driver or front
outboard passenger
Safety Belt Pretensioners
• This holds the safety belt firmly against
the occupant before the airbag inflates,
helping to reduce the force of the belt
on the occupant
Remote Keyless Entry System — locks and unlocks doors
from up to 33 feet away. Includes two transmitters and
illuminated entry.
Halogen Headlamps — emit a white, bright light for
excellent nighttime visibility.
Side Door Intrusion Beams — additional protection in
certain side collisions.
Reverse Sensing System — detects an obstacle up to 6 feet
away to alert drivers to certain objects near the rear of
the vehicle when backing up. Requires rear step or
contour bumper.
Four-wheel Disc Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) —
standard on all E-Series models, helps provide steering
control in hard-braking situations. Disc brakes help resist
fade better than drum brakes.
Safety/Security Specifics
A CLOSER LOOK: Anti-lock Braking System
Remind your customers that ABS does not necessarily shorten
stopping distances, but is designed to help the driver maintain
steering control during hard-braking situations. An E-Series
vehicle that is pulling a trailer or hauling a heavy load will
take longer to stop as compared to an unloaded vehicle, even
when equipped with ABS.
