System Requirements for Fluke USB Optical Serial Cable

• PC Hardware: An available USB port on the PC, or on a USB Hub connected

to the PC.

• Windows Operating System: Your PC must be running one of the following

versions of Windows:
Windows Vista

Windows XP (Home or Professional)
Windows 2000

• Administrator privileges required to install software on Windows 2000, XP, or

Vista.

Installing the USB Cable Drivers

1. If running Windows Vista, XP, or 2000, log into an account with Administrator
privileges.

2. Plug the Fluke USB serial cable into an available USB port on your PC, or into
a USB hub connected to your PC.

3. Windows will respond that it has "found new hardware", and the Windows
Hardware Wizard dialog will appear.

4. Insert the CD-ROM that came with the cable into the PC's CD-ROM drive. If
the Hardware Wizard doesn't immediately begin searching the CD-ROM for
drivers, click on the “Next>” button on the Hardware Wizard dialog.

5. The Hardware Wizard will find the USB cable drivers on the CD-ROM.

Note

For Windows Vista or XP users, you may get a dialog box warning you
that this driver "has not passed Windows Logo Testing." Just click the
"Continue anyway" button.

6. The Hardware Wizard will finish.
The USB cable drivers have now been installed. On some systems, you may

need to reboot the PC once following driver installation before the USB cable
can be used.

Determining the USB Cable's COM Port

Once the USB cable drivers have now been installed, and a virtual COM port has
been assigned to your USB cable. You can use this COM port to perform serial
communications over your Fluke USB cable.

To find out which COM port is associated with your cable, do the following:

1. First, the cable must be attached to the PC, or to a USB hub connected to
your PC.

2. Go to the Windows Control Panel. Open the “System” applet. This brings up
the “System Properties” dialog box.

3. Open the Device Manager:

• On Windows 2000 and Windows XP, click on the “Hardware” tab of the

“System Properties” dialog box. Then click on the “Device Manager”
button on the center of the dialog.

4. On the “Device Manager” dialog box, look under the “Ports (COM & LPT)”
tree.

The COM port associated with the USB cable is listed there, as “USB Serial Port”.

Installation des pilotes du câble USB

1. Sous Windows Vista, XP, ou 2000, ouvrez une session avec des privilèges
d’administrateur.

2. Branchez le câble série Fluke USB dans un port USB disponible sur le PC ou
dans un concentrateur USB relié au PC.

3. Windows répond qu’il a « détecté un nouveau matériel » et la boîte de
dialogue Assistant Matériel de Windows s’affiche.

4. Introduisez le cédérom livré avec le câble dans le lecteur de cédérom de
l’ordinateur. Si l’Assistant Matériel ne recherche pas immédiatement les
pilotes sur le cédérom, cliquez sur le bouton « Suivant> » de la boîte de
dialogue Assistant Matériel.

5. L’Assistant Matériel recherche les pilotes de câble USB sur le cédérom.

Les utilisateurs de Windows Vista ou XP sont susceptibles de voir
apparaître une boîte de dialogue leur signalant que ce pilote « n’a pas
été validé lors du test permettant d’obtenir le logo Windows ». Cliquez
simplement sur le bouton « Continuer ».

6. L’Assistant Matériel termine son opération.
Les pilotes de câble USB sont maintenant installés. Sur certains systèmes, il

faut réamorcer le PC après avoir procédé à l’installation des pilotes avant de
pouvoir utiliser le câble USB.

Remarque

Pour déterminer le port COM du câble USB

Une fois les pilotes de câble USB installés, un port COM virtuel est attribué au câble
USB. Vous pouvez utiliser ce port COM pour établir les communications série sur le
câble Fluke USB.

Pour identifier le port COM qui est associé au câble, procédez comme suit :

1. Le câble doit tout d’abord être fixé au PC ou au concentrateur USB relié
au PC.

2. Allez dans le Panneau de configuration de Windows. Ouvrez l’applet
« Système ». La boîte de dialogue « Propriétés système » s’affiche.

3. Ouvrez le Gestionnaire de périphériques :

• Sur Windows 2000 et Windows XP, cliquez sur l’onglet « Matériel » de

identifier l’arborescence « Ports (COM et LPT) ».

Le port COM associé au câble USB est indiqué sur cette liste sous la forme « USB
Serial Port ».
