LEVEL SET BUFFER
Thanks for purchasing the Level Set Buffer—a flexible utility pedal designed especially for electric guitar and bass. The Level Set Buffer is designed to accomplish three main functions. First, it provides a separate output for a stage tuner in order to keep the signal path purer (the built-in mute footswitch also allows silent tuning). Note that the tuner output is always active, meaning that tuning can be done mid-performance without having to mute the signal (if preferred). Second, the Level and Hi-Freq controls allow output-level compensation for different instruments, enabling easier guitar swaps without having to adjust multiple settings. Third, the pedal serves as a buffer that helps maintain signal quality through multiple pedals and cables. The Level Set Buffer is designed to be placed first in the signal chain, with other pedals following.
DESIGNED IN CALIFORNIA, U.S.A.
Level
This control offers up to 12dB of volume boost or cut, with the center position being unity gain (no level change). With the player’s main instrument, begin by setting this control to the center position and then dialing in the rest of the rig. Then adjust the Level control up or down as needed depending on the output level of subsequent guitars. Humbucking or active pickups may require a cut in gain (counter-clockwise) while vintage single-coil type pickups might require more gain (clockwise) to sound right.
Hi-Freq
The Hi-Freq gain control behaves similarly to the Level control, except that it only affects very high frequencies. This control is designed to add a little sparkle to darker pickups, or to warm up overly bright pickups. Like the Level control, this control offers up to 12dB of boost or cut.
Load Switch
The Load Switch applies capacitance to the input and loads guitar pickups in the same way that a traditional tube amp might. Note that the effect can be subtle, and the results will differ depending on (as with a tube amp) the type of pickups in use, instrument volume pot value and setting, and cables.
Jewel Indicator
The jewel is illuminated when the pedal is not muted, letting players know they’re ready to rock.
Mute Footswitch
This rugged footswitch mutes the main output jack, to allow for silent tuning.
Input Jack
This is a high-impedance input suitable for electric guitar, bass, acoustic guitars with pickup systems, keyboards and other instruments.
Main Output Jack
This is a low-impedance output jack that connects to the amp or to the next effect pedal in the signal chain.
Tuner Output Jack
This jack connects to a tuner’s input jack.
DC Power Connector
This is a standard, center-negative 9VDC jack for use with appropriate power supplies.
LED Kill Switch
This switch extinguishes the LEDs that illuminate the knobs—useful in maximizing battery life when running the pedal from batteries.
Low Battery Indicator
This red LED on the front of the battery door illuminates when battery voltage drops below a set threshold, indicating that the battery should be replaced soon.
