CHAPTER I:What’s Included
Your Speaking Bingo includes everything you need for you, your family and friends to enjoy Bingo any time, anywhere. This box includes:
• The Speaking Bingo Electronic Unit
• 25 individual Bingo cards
• 1 six-card fold-out
• 100 round number markers
CHAPTER 2: Installing the Batteries
Your Speaking Bingo requires three “AAA” batteries. Turn your unit so that it’s face down. The battery compartment is at the top. Use a small Phillips screw driver to remove the screw. Lift off the battery compartment lid. Install three “AAA” batteries, making sure to match the polarity (+ and -) with the diagram inside the battery compartment. Place battery door back on unit and screw shut.
CHAPTER 3: Key Functions
Speaking Bingo uses five keys and a recessed reset button. START/CALL
This button begins the game and starts the announcing of numbers. After you press it, a melody will play. Then the voice will begin to announce the numbers. As each number is announced, it will also be displayed on the LCD. All numbers called will remain on display until a game is over.
This button is also used to announce each number on demand when the unit is in manual-announce mode. (See AUTO/MAN., below.)
When the unit is in automatic mode (“AUTOCALL” will be dis-

played at bottom, left), you can press the START/CALL button to stop the calling temporarily. Calling will resume when you press START/CALL again.
NO. OF TURNS Pressing this button momentarily displays the number of calls that have been made during a game.
AUTO/MAN. Press this button to shift between automatic number-calling and manual number-calling. When the unit is in automatic mode, it will call and display a new number about every 10 seconds. When in manual mode, it will announce and display a new number whenever you push the START/CALL button.
NEW GAME Press and hold this key for one second to end the current game. Then press START/CALL to start a new game.
MUTE Press this button to turn the voice off. Numbers will continue to appear on the display, allowing you to play without disturbing others.
RESET If your display “freezes” or your unit malfunctions in any way, use a paper clip or ballpoint pen to press this recessed button carefully.
CHAPTER 4: Playing Right Away
It’s easy to start playing. You can play by yourself or with others. Each player gets one or more cards—depending on how many he or she wants to play—and a supply of markers. (If a player runs out of markers, he or she simply takes more.) Then start your Speaking
4
Bingo by pressing START/CALL. It will call out randomly selected numbers in a clear, easy-to-hear voice. Each newly called number will flash on the display until a new number is called. (See “RULES OF BINGO” below for a review of the rules.)
Special notes: Your game will shut off after a few minutes to save your batteries if no buttons are pushed. To restart your game, just press START/CALL. If 75 numbers are called, you’ll hear musical tones,, and your unit will shut itself off. Press START/CALL twice if you wish to continue your play.
CHAPTER 5: Rules of Bingo
Bingo rules are quite simple. Each player receives at least one card and some markers. Speaking Bingo calls out numbers one at a time. Players look for the called number on their cards, and the players cover any called number with a marker.A player wins when he or she gets five squares in a row on his card covered—horizontally, vertically or diagonally. (Many Bingo players also count "four corners"—covering the top and bottom "B" and "O" as a win.) The winning player must call "Bingo" to claim the win, when the game ends. It’s possible for more than one player to bingo at the same time. Any jackpot is split between bingo winners.
Cards
Each card has the word "BINGO" printed across the top, with five vertical numbered squares under each letter of that word—except for the center square. Each card thus contains 24 numbered squares and a free center square.
To help players find their numbers quickly, they are called out according to the lettered row they are in. The "B" column contains
5

five numbers between 1 and 15. The "I" column contains f ive numbers between 16 and 30. The "N" column contains five numbers between 31 and 45 (with the free space in the center). The "G" column contains five numbers between 46 and 59, and "O" contains five numbers between 60 and 75.
The center squar e
The center, free square can be used with any four covered squares that intersect the center. To play, you need at least one card, but you can use more than one. In fact, many players like to use a special combination of six cards that guarantees each number (1-90) called will be represented on one of the six cards. With six cards, a player has a number to cover on each call. Your Excalibur Talking Bingo includes a special six-card folding sheet to use for this purpose.
Game variations
There are many different kinds of Bingo games that you can play as a change of pace. All are still based on covering the called numbers on your card. For example, as the last game of the night, some Bingo players play "Cover All" (sometimes called "Blackout")— ALL the squares on a card must be covered to win. In "Six Pack," the winner must make a vertical or horizontal pattern of six numbers, two rows of three (house rules decide whether it’s legal to use the free square). In "Top and Bottom," the winner must fill the top and bottom row of a card. In "Eight States," to win a player must fill the numbers surrounding the center free space. In "Blood, Sweat and Tears," the winner must get three Bingos on one card (one marker on each corner doesn’t count as a bingo in this variation). You may even invent your own variations.
