GETTING STARTED
After you have inserted new batteries, Wine Master Deluxe then displays:

Push any key and the HOME (starting) menu will appear on the screen:
The house icon at the top of the screen indicates you are at the home screen. The “+” at the end of each item indicates that another screen will follow if you select that item. (See page 10 for further discussion of screen symbols. (The “[03]” shown here after “SAVED” indicates that you have saved information on three favorite wines.)
The home screen offers eight

Note: If a word or term is longer than 12 characters, such as
GRAPE-VARIETAL, it is too long to
fit entirely on the screen. Use the direction buttons to scroll to that line. Wine Master Deluxe will scroll to the left to let you read the remaining characters.
Next press SELECT to choose
WINERY-BRAND from this new
menu. A list of over 2,800 wineries (brands) will appear alphabetically on your screen. (Wine Master Deluxe provides you with information on over 10,500 wines in all... right in your pocket!) Note the ALL icon on the upper screen. It reminds you that the entire data base is being searched
You’ll see that the arrow at the first line now points to
1+1 = 3.
This is the first brand of wine in Wine Master Deluxe’s database. At the top of the screen you’ll see the number 001, which is the number of wines for this brand stored in Wine Master Deluxe’s information system. (See page 10 for an explanation of additional screen symbols.)
SELECTING A UNIQUE WINE
As you have read above, after you have selected
RATED WINES
on the home screen, and
WINERY-BRAND on the next screen, a list of wineries appears.
Use the arrow keys to scroll down the list of wineries. (See page 11 for information on scrolling a list more quickly by using the ABC or 3X buttons.) Stop when the arrow is positioned at the winery
ABRAZO. In this example, you’ll
see the number “001” at the top of the screen indicating only one wine is in Wine Master Deluxe’s database for this winery.
Next press SELECT TO select
ABRAZO. The following
information appears on your screen:
#81 $7 ALL ABRAZO 2003 750ml 13.0% REVIEW RED GARNACHA CARINENA, SPAIN
In this example, Wine Master Deluxe shows you Wine Enthusiast Magazine’s rating for the wine (81,) the selling price (about $7,) and that it has searched ALL of its database for this information. It next tells you the vintage and that this wine is considered a value, a BEST BUY. (See Wine Enthusiast Magazine’s
8
Rating System, page 14.) The review of the wine is then listed. The color of the wine and grape varietal is listed next, followed by the wine’s appellation and country of origin.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine
The rating is provided for any rated wine you select and appears with a # sign at the top left of the display. To the right of the rating, Wine Master Deluxe provides you with the price you can expect to pay per bottle. The type of information that then follows for a wine varies, depending on what information applies to the particular wine. In general your screen allows you to scroll through the following types of information in this order:
Brand name (winery), special designation,
year, distinction, bottle size and alcohol
content, review, type, varietal, appellation
and country.
In the ABRAZO example above, only one wine was in Wine Master Deluxe’s data base for that particular winery. The information for that wine appeared without your needing to make additional choices.
In other cases, there may be information on more than one
wine given for a winery. In that case you’ll need to make additional choices. Wine Master Deluxe needs to know four types of information to find a unique wine for you—the brand, varietal, vintage and designation of the wine. The three remaining choices appear on screens only if Wine Master deluxe has information on more than one varietal, vintage or designation of wine from the brand you have chosen. (See below for choosing varietals, vintage and designations of wines.)
CHOOSING FROM MULTIPLE VARIETALS
Many wineries will offer more than one varietal of wine. If you select WOODBRIDGE, for example, a screen will appear with a list of different varietals to choose from:
CABERNET SAUVIGNON CHARDONNAY MERLOT PORT
After you scroll through this list and select a varietal of wine by pressing SELECT, a new screen will appear. If, for example, you select MERLOT, the following information will then appear:
9
#83 $8 ALL WOODBRIDGE 2002 750ml REVIEW RED MERLOT CALIFORNIA, USA
You see that this wine has a rating of 83 and sells for about $8. In addition to the name and vintage, the size of the bottle and the alcohol content are included.
Note that N/V will be displayed if a wine has no vintage. If a wine has a special designation, such as
RESERVE, that information will
also appear. The screen will also let you know if this wine is considered a BEST BUY,
EDITOR’S PICK or CELLAR BUY
by Wine Enthusiast Magazine. (See Wine Enthusiast Magazine Rating System, page 14.)
SELECTING A VINTAGE
Sometimes after you select a varietal of wine, a new screen will appear offering you a selection of vintages. For example, if you choose
CABERNET SAUVIGNON from the WOLFBLASS winery list, a screen
appears with the following choices:
2001 2002
Scroll to the vintage of your choice and use the SELECT button to select the year for the wine you are interested in reading about.
SELECTING A DESIGNATION
In some cases, you might be given a screen for choosing a wine’s designation. For example, if you are searching for KendallJackson Cabernet Sauvignon, you would be asked to choose between VINTNERS RESERVE OR GRAND RESERVE. After you select a vineyard (a designation) the information on the wine you are looking for will appear on the screen.
SCREEN SYMBOLS
Wine Master Deluxe uses the following screen icons or symbols.
A icon indicates you are looking at the home screen.

MORE SEARCH OPTIONS
Choosing RATED WINES on the starting menu allows you many additional options. Rather than searching for wines by winery, you can also search by type of wine, grape variety, country, rating or price This narrows your search of the database. You can choose also to see only wines with reviews.
For example, if you know what type of wine (red, white or rose) you are looking for, select RATED
WINES
then select TYPE. Selecting on the RATED WINES menu produces the following screen:
After selecting one of the above types, you then can choose from the following items:

Selecting COUNTRY gives an alphabetical list of countries or continents to choose from. If you search by PRICE you narrow your search by choosing among price categories, such as wines costing $9 or under, or those costing $100 or over.
Selecting ONLY REVIEWS lets you choose from an alphabetical listing of all wines of that color for which reviews are provided.
Note: If you select, for example,
