The legendary King Arthur brandished a magic sword, Excalibur, from which we take our company name. With this unique weapon in his hands, he could not be vanquished.
Although Excalibur Electronics can’t claim the magical secrets of Merlin, King Arthur’s court
wizard, sometimes our patented technology may make it seem as if we could. The World Series of Poker Texas Hold ‘Em is another unmatched innovation of Excalibur Electronics.

Installing Batteries
Your Texas Hold ‘Em requires three AAAbatteries, not included. To install the batteries, carefully turn the unit over so that it is facedown on a soft surface. Find the battery compartment on the back of the unit.
Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw. Lift off the
battery compartment lid. Install the batteries, making sure to match polarity (+ and -) with the diagram inside the battery compartment. Place the tab of the battery compartment lid in its slot and close the compartment door. Replace the screw and tighten it carefully. (See page xx for additonal battery information.)

Second Betting Round
The second betting round is started by the player to the left of the dealer. The betting again proceeds until the bets are even. Once the bets are even, a fourth card is dealt to the table face up. (This is called the “turn.”)
Third Betting Round
The third betting round is started by the player to the left of the dealer. The betting again proceeds until the bets are even. Once the bets are even, a fifth card is dealt to the table face up. (This is called the “river.”)
Fourth Betting Round
The fourth betting round is started by the player to the left of the dealer. The betting again proceeds until the bets are even. When the betting is complete, the showdown occurs. The computer says the name of the winning hand, and the new amount of the winning player flashes. The amount in the pot and the user’s new amount are also displayed.
Playing Additional Hands
Press the DEAL/ENTER key. “DEAL-
ER” flashes to indicate the dealer for
the next hand. Now you are ready to play the second hand. Continue playing hands until you bankrupt all of the computer players, in which case, you win! If the computer players bankrupt you, you lose.
Playing Pot Limit Texas Hold ‘Em
POT LIMIT TEXAS HOLD EM is
played just like
LIMIT TEXAS HOLD
EM, except that the betting rules vary.
When playing in the
POT LIMIT
mode, the player can press the +25, +100, +1000 or +10000
keys to add to the bet amount. He can also press the
-25, -100, -1000 or -10000 keys
to reduce his bet. In addition, he can press the
MIN or MAX keys to bet the
minimum or the maximum.
The minimum allowable opening bet is the amount of the big blind. The maximum allowable bet is the amount in the current
POT.
The maximum allowable raise is the size of the pot. The size of the pot is defined as the total of the pot in the middle plus all bets on the table plus the amount the active player must first call before raising.
The minimum allowable raise is the amount of the previous bet or raise. For example, if the first player to act bets $100, then the second player must raise a minimum of $100 (a bet of $200).
6
Playing Limit Texas Hold ‘Em
In the LIMIT game, the amount a player may bet or raise is set by the betting limits of the game. For example, a limit of 10-20 requires bets or raises to be $10 for the first two rounds of betting, and $20 for the last two rounds of betting.
After pressing
DEAL/ENTER to con-
firm that you want to play
LIMIT
TEXAS HOLD
EM, press DEAL/ENTER
again. The menu will show “TOUNA-
MENT” and “PRACTICE” (Tournament
is spelled this way to fit on the screen). Press the
UP/DOWN key to
select
TOUNAMENT (120 players) or
PRACTICE (6 players). Press
DEAL/ENTER to confirm your choice.
After you confirm your selection, one card will be dealt to each player to determine who deals the first hand. The player with the high card deals. If more than one player have the high card, the suits of the cards determine the dealer. Suits are ranked from high to low as spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs respectively. The deal passes to the left with each new hand.
Now press the
DEAL/ENTER key.
The screen displays “
LEVEL 1.” Press
the
DEAL/ENTER key again, and the
screen will display “
BLINDS 5-10.”
Press the
DEAL/ENTER key a third
time. The screen now displays “
LIMIT
10-20.
Press the
DEAL/ENTER key another
time. You’ll hear cards being shuffled, and then each player will be dealt two cards. The user plays the hand in position 6. Until the showdown, he’ll be able to see only his two cards.
First Betting Round
The player to the left of the big blind has the first chance to bet. If that is one of the five computer players, his play will be made automatically. Any other computer players to the right of the user will also make their plays automatically.
When it’s the user’s turn, the screen will display the betting options available. The user then makes his play by pressing one of those option keys–
FOLD, CHECK, CALL, BET or
RAISE. (Not all options are available,
depending on the situation.)
After the user has entered his play, the computer players automatically make their plays, and the screen again displays the user’s betting options. The user makes his next play by pressing one of the option keys.
The game continues in this fashion until the bets are even. Once the bets are even, three cards are dealt to the table face up. (This is called the “flop.”)
Page 5
9
Additional Rules of the Game
Before the cards are dealt at the beginning of each hand, the two players directly to the left of the dealer must post “blinds.” To post a blind is to place an advanced bet before getting cards. The player to the immediate left of the dealer posts the “small blind" and the player to the left of the small blind posts the “big blind.” This is all done automatically by the computer.
The five cards dealt face up to the table are community cards and may be used by each player along with his hole cards to make his best hand.
If you select
ZIP after one of the
computer players has bet or raised, your hand will be folded.
If a player runs out of chips in the course of a hand, he goes “all-in.” The pot is then split into a “main pot” and a “side pot.” The main pot is the pot that existed up to the point the player went all in. The side pot consists of all bets placed from that point on. The player that went all in can win only the main pot. The highest hand among the other players wins the side pot.
Increasing Game Levels
After you have played 10 hands,
LEVEL 2 will be displayed when you
start a new game. You’ll be challenged by better computer players each time the level increases. The amount of the limits and blinds will also increase as the level increases.
Ranking of the Hands
Royal Flush: Ten, Jack, Queen,
King, Ace of the same suit.
Straight Flush: Straight with all
five cards in the same suit.
Four of a Kind: Four cards of
the same rank.

a pair.

plus two cards of another rank.

Playing No Limit Texas Hold ‘Em
NO LIMIT TEXAS HOLD EM is played
the same as
LIMIT TEXAS HOLD EM
except for the betting rules.
In the
NO LIMIT game mode, the
player can use the betting keys the same way as in the
POT LIMIT game,
described above. The betting limits are also the same as in the
POT LIMIT
game, except that in the NO LIMIT game, the maximum allowable bet or raise is the amount of money you have on the table.
