ML1 Series Microphone Instructions
The ML1 series microphones are uni and omni-directional electret microphones for use with IP
cameras accepting microphone level input signals (PC compatible input).
ML1 Microphone Placement
Locate the ML1 Microphone near the area of interest in the room to be monitored. If the entire room is to be monitored,
locate the ML1in the middle of the room. Do not mount the microphone near air conditioning vents, light fixtures or
electrical equipment. The ML1 should be placed as close as possible to the subject(s) to be monitored. The ML1 is still
useable at distances of up to 25 feet but is dependent on the quality of the camera / encoder and the level of background
noise in the area. Experimentation in the environment will determine what distances work best.
Cable Run
The ML1 comes standard with a 6 foot cable. If needed, the cable can be extended up to 25’. We do not recommend
extending cables over 25’ as the microphone is more likely to experience 60hz hum or radio station pickup. You can order
ML1’s with any length cable up to 25’ directly from ETS.
Connecting the ML1 to an IP camera
Your IP camera must have an audio input with a “microphone level” mode. Most cameras support both line and
microphone level inputs. Be sure to select the “microphone level” input in the camera’s audio setup menu. You may have
to adjust the sound level in the software to get an acceptable audio volume. If your camera has a terminal block for the
microphone input, you can order ML1s with a –FL (flying lead option) from ETS or you can cut off the 3.5mm connector,
strip back the wires and place them into the connector. See figure below
