TURNING ON THE FRX3
The FR X3 is powered w ith either t he internal re chargeab le
Ni-MH b attery (60 0mAh, 3.6V ), 3 AAA b atteries, t he hand
turb ine and sola r cell, or USB DC-in (inc luded). S elect the
power s ource and pres s the Power Bu tton <

(RECHARGEABLE Ni-MH BATTERIES)
The rec hargeabl e Ni-MH (nicke l-metal-h ydride) bat tery
is in the b attery com partmen t. To use it , plug the bat tery
into the s ocket adjace nt to it, then p ress the Dyn amo
Power bu tton <
intern al Ni-MH bat tery. The rec hargeabl e battery wil l
eventu ally lose it s ability to h old a charge ov er time.
Call Etó n Corporat ion to order an other one.
NOTE : Before i nitial use , make sure the re chargeabl e
Ni-MH b attery pa ck (includ ed) is conne cted to the
unit ’s electri c socket. The N i-MH batte ry is rated
at 3.6V/60 0mAh.

SOLAR POWER
When in D ynamo Powe r mode and th e solar panel s are
in dire ct sunlight (n ot through a wi ndow or in the s hade),
the Ni- MH recharg eable batte ry recharg es automati cally.
The LCD p ower status b ar (under DYN ) will show the

USB CABLE POWER
To charge th e Ni-MH batt ery via the US B port (DC-in),
make su re the unit is on D ynamo Power o ption. Plu g the
USB cab le port into t he computer, pl ug the other p ort into
the min i USB jack. T he recharge i con <

Plug th e USB cell pho ne charging co rd into the USB P HONE
CHAR GER jack (loc ated under th e rubber cov er on the back
of the ra dio.). Plug t he other end of t he cord into the c ell
phon e charging ti p and then into t he jack of the ce ll phone.
Press t he CELL but ton to start d ump charge . Charging
stops o nce the inter nal Ni-MH bat tery is out of p ower.
NOTE: W hen the Ni-M H battery is o ut of power, the ha nd
turb ine may be used t o recharge th e battery.
Disco nnect the U SB cable (to sma rtphone) b efore
using t he hand tur bine. Turn the ha nd crank at a
rate of 2 or m ore revoluti ons per seco nd. Continu e
turn ing until the d esired bat tery level ha s been
reach ed. If you dec ide to stop cra nking for wh atever
reaso n, please wai t at least 5 seco nds before
begin ning to cran k again. Not fo llowing the se
instr uctions m ay cause dam age to your cell p hone
for whi ch Etón discla ims any liabi lity and will n ot be
held li able for any ac tual or cons equential d amages
related t o this matter.

FLASHLIGHT
Push t he ashligh t button to tur n it ON/OFF.
VOLUME CONTROL
Turn the Volu me Adjusti ng Knob (lo cated on the fr ont left
knob) to a djust volu me level. Alwa ys turn down t he volume
before u sing earph ones.
TUNNING CONTROL
Turn the tu ning knob (l ocated on th e front right kn ob)
to chan ge frequen cies.
LCD BACkLIGHT
To light the di splay for abo ut 5 seconds , press the AN Y
butt on located in f ront if the uni t.
ADjUST CLOCk TIME
1. In t he standard m ode, press t he SET but ton. The LCD
displ ay type will a sh.
2. Adjust th e time by press ing the UP or DO WN button ,
then p ress SET to con rm. Repeat fo r the minute va lue.

ALARM ON/OFF
Press t he alarm but ton to turn ON /OFF the al arm.
The wo rd <ALARM> will ap pear on the di splay.

Adjus t hour of alar m by pressing t he UP or DOWN bu tton,

RECEPTION OF NOAA
WEATHERBAND FREqUENCIES
To hear your l ocal weathe r station, p ull up the anten na,
turn o n the radio an d select a ch annel. Turn up th e volume
and tu rn the WB dial to g o through al l 7 weather cha nnels.
WB freq uency app ears on the di splay. You will onl y hear one
chan nel, but if you h ear a weather b roadcast o n more than
one, s elect the st rongest. T he strong est one will us ually be
your lo cal weather s tation. Be low are the fre quencies t hat
corre spond to the r adio’s chan nels:
