The SIM Card
When you register as a subscribe r w it h a ne twork operator, you get a SIM (Subscriber Identity Module ) card. The SIM card contains a compute r chip that keeps track of your phone nu mber, the services included in your subscription, and your Phone Boo k in formation, among other things.
SIM cards come in two sizes. One is the size of a credit card and the other is smaller. Your pho ne us es th e s maller card. Many credit card-size d S I M ca rds have a perforated smaller card that you can take out easily. Before you can use your phone, you must insert the SIM card as shown below.

The PIN
Most SIM cards are suppl ied with a security code, also known as PIN (Personal Identity Number), which you need to access the network. Every time you turn on your phone, you are aske d to enter your PIN. You will find your PIN in the information from your operator.
Some operators may have services that require a second P I N , y our PIN2.
You should be careful with your PIN, since it is your protection against unauthorized use of your subscrip ti on.
If your PIN is entered incorrectly three ti mes in a row, the SIM card is blocked. If this happens, you can unlock it by using your PUK (Personal Unblocking Key code) , whi ch you also get from your operator.
The Battery
Your T28 come s w ith a lithium battery. The battery is no t charged when you buy your phone, but there m ay b e en ough power to switch the phone on. We recommend that you cha rge the bat ter y up to three hours before you use the phone for the first time.

Sending and Receiving Text Messages (SMS)
The Short Message Service (SMS) allows you to send and receive text messages consisting of up to 160 characters.
A useful feature in your T28 is that you can send text messages to a group which you have defined in your ph one book. See “Groups” on page 33. Instead of calling or sending a text message to the m embers of that group one at a time, you can simply send a single group SMS.
If your SIM card does not contain the phone number to your network se rvice centre, you must specify th e number yourself. Otherwise you cannot reply to received messages or send your own messag es. See E n able the Phone to Send SMS below.
Note! The Short Mes sage Service may not be avail able on all networks. Some
network operators may only allow SMS to be sent within their own network.

Fixed Dialling
Fixed Dialling is a way of restricting outgoing calls. It requires a SIM card that allows fixed numbers to be saved. The fixed numbers are normally protected by your PIN2. How many fixe d num bers you can save depends on your SIM card.
The Fixed Dialling function allows calls to be made only to certain num bers saved on the SIM card. If an attempt is made to call other numbers, the message Number not permitted appears in the display.
f
It is possible to save partial num be rs, for example an area code, or an are a code followed by the first digi ts common to several numbers. Storing

Numbers which include question marks can be saved. A question mark should

Sending and Receiving Fax and Data Calls
Note! To be able to use various communications services you need the
appropriate software such as a fax program, an e-mail program or an Internet browser.
Sending Fax and Data Calls
All fax and data calls ar e ini tiate d fro m the app ropr iate compute r softwa re. To send fax and data calls you need to c onnect your phone to a compute r, for example by mean s of an infrared modem a nd then start the appropriate software program.
Receiving Fax and Data Calls
The procedure of receiving fax and data calls depends on your ne twork and subscription. If you have different numbers for voice, fax and data calls, this is referred to as multi numbering. This means that you can have up to three numbers in your subscription. If you only have one number for all call types, this is referred to as single numbering.
Receiving Fax and Data Calls – Multi Nu m bering

Full Handsfree
Full Handsfree means that the phone handles the call in full duplex mode. This considerably in creases the quality of speech, sinc e you do not have to wait until it is your turn to speak.
For Full Handsfree to work properl y, your phone adapts to th e sound environment around th e handsfree equipment. Thi s ada ptation might take a few calls. During this learning phase, the person you are talking to might hear an echo of his or her own voice (because the sound goes from the speaker into the microphone again). However, this disappears as the other person speaks. If the echo lasts longer than the firs t few calls, try Basic Handsfree instead.
Tip! Set the handsfree type to Full Handsfree first. If speech quality is poor,
set the Basic Handsfree type instead.
