Dear photographer, Thank you for buying the ELB 500 Head for the ELB 500 TTL power

pack. All ELINCHROM products are manufactured using the most advanced technology. Carefully selected components are used to ensure the highest quality and the equipment is submitted to many controls both during and after manufacture. All ﬂash units are manufactured for the studio and location use of professional photographers. We trust that it will give you many years of reliable service. Please read the instructions carefully, before use, for your safety and to obtain the maximum beneﬁt from many features. This unit embodies the very latest technology and is manufactured in Switzerland, by ELINCHROM LTD, complying with all Swiss and E.C. relevant norms.

BEFORE YOU START

• Connect the ﬂash cable with the security locking ring to the power pack.

• Ensure that the power pack is switched OFF.

• Adapt the reﬂectors or accessories, which are required for the shoot.

• Ensure that ﬂash cable connections are secured against moister and dust. Do not use in wet / humid conditions.

• Power pack outlets not in use must be protected with the security covers.

• Check all connections again; the cable must be locked with the security ring and then switch on the unit.

• Always switch off the unit before connecting or disconnecting heads.

• Always switch off the unit before connecting accessories and reﬂectors.

• Ambient temperature when the head is in use: -20° C (-4° F) up to 40° C (104° F).

• Modelling lamp is not intented to operate at maximum power permanently. To avoid overheat the output light is reduced automatically.

USER SAFETY INFORMATION

• Because a portable ﬂashhead is frequently used “on location” please be aware of the danger, or inconvenience, which it may represent to others for example children.

• Keep ﬂash units out of reach of unauthorised persons whenever possible.

• Do not use in restricted area (such as hospitals, always ask permission before).

• Do not use near ﬂammable / explosive material.

• Always switch off the unit before connecting or disconnecting heads.

• Flashtubes and the LED-reﬂector dishes may become very hot during and after use!

• Do not touch the LED; this might cause damage.

• Never touch a ﬂashtube or exchange it before the unit has cooled down and is disconnected from the battery.

• Do not ﬁre ﬂashes from short distances, directed towards a person.

• Minimum distance for persons: 30 cm, for animals 1 – 2 m.

• There is high voltage and can be high currents, so please apply all the usual safety precautions when handling the unit, changing ﬂashtubes, ﬂash cables, etc., as you would with mains powered electronic ﬂash.

• Protect the heads & power pack from moisture when used in wet conditions.

• Flashhead cables must be connected correctly to the power pack.

• If the unit has been exposed to very cold conditions, sudden exposure to warm or humid air may cause condensation and malfunction.

• Transport the heads preferrably in the original bags, cases or cartons and protect the ﬂashtube and the LED with the protection cap.

• Avoid direct sunlight, which might heat up the heads and the power pack.

• Do not open the unit. In the event of damage or apparent failure, contact the Elinchrom Service Centre.

FITTING REFLECTORS

1. Always switch off the unit before connecting accessories and reﬂectors.

2. Disconnect the ﬂash cable from the ELB 500 power pack.

3. Mount the ELB 500 Head to a tripod and lock the security screw.

4. Place the reﬂector over the ELB 500 Head, taking care to match-up the position of any umbrella hole.

5. Press the ELB 500 Head locking knob ﬁrmly down and turn the reﬂector to the right until you hear the snap-in noise.

6. Check if the reﬂector is well ﬁtted.

7. Reconnect the ﬂash cable to the power pack and switch the unit on.

EXCHANGING REFLECTORS

1. Switch the ELB 500 power pack OFF and disconnect the ﬂash cable.

2. Mount the ELB 500 head to a tripod and lock with the security screw.

3. Press the ELB 500 head locking knob ﬁrmly down and turn the reﬂector to the left.

4. Now pull the reﬂector from the head.

FLASHTUBE REPLACEMENT

1. Switch the power pack off.

2. Disconnect the ﬂash cable from the power pack.

3. Place the head horizontally on a rigid, clean and dry surface.

4. It will need to be held ﬁrmly whilst removing and replacing the ﬂashtube.

5. Allow the ﬂashtube to cool down. ALWAYS USE A PROTECTIVE GLOVE TO REMOVE THE FLASHTUBE!

6. Remove the security spring from the ﬂashtube and pull the ﬂashtube ﬁrmly out of the terminals.

7. If the tube is broken, use security gloves to avoid cutting yourself and use an insulated tool to pull out the electrodes. Never touch the metal electrodes.

8. Now replace with a new correct original Elinchrom ﬂashtube. An insulated tissue or security gloves MUST BE USED. Any contact with your ﬁngers on the tube, can cause dark markings on the tube when used.

9. Check that the tube is correctly aligned (central) and that the trigger contact is gripping the tube with the security wire.

10. Re-connect and test the head as usual.

MAINTENANCE

The head requires only very little maintenance. To ensure secure operation please check the following points regularly before connecting the head to the power pack:

• Ensure that the contacts of the ﬂash head connector are not burned or corroded.

• The ﬂash cable should not have any marks or cuts. Avoid any risk of electric shock which could be a risk to life.

• Ensure that the plug-in ﬂash tube is correctly ﬁtted.

• Do not use water to clean dust and dirt from the head.

CAUTION!

Under no circumstances open any part of the equipment. The ELB 500 Head is not user serviceable and there is dangerous high voltage. In the event of difﬁculties contact your Elinchrom Service partner. Not compatible with ELB 400.

REGULAR CHECK

National safety regulations require frequent safety checks of the electrical equipment. The ELB 500 Head should be checked once a year. This check not only guarantees safety; it also protects the value of the unit.

500 TTL Power Pack. Alle ELINCHROM Produkte sind mit der marktführenden Technologie hergestellt. Sorgsam ausgewählte Komponenten werden verwendet, um die höchste Qualität sicherzustellen, und die Ausrüstung unterliegt vielen Kontrollen sowohl während als auch nach der Herstellung. BEVOR SIE BEGINNEN

SICHERHEITSHINWEISE FÜR DEN BENUTZER

• Da ein tragbarer Blitzaufsatz häuﬁg “vor Ort” zum Einsatz kommt, seien Sie sich bitte der Gefahren oder Unannehmlichkeiten bewusst, die dieser für Andere mit sich bringen können, vor allem für Kinder.

• Halten Sie Blitzgeräte möglichst außerhalb der Reichweite Unbefugter.

• Verwenden Sie sie nicht in geschützen Bereichen (wie Krankenhäusern, fragen Sie immer nach Erlaubnis).

• Verwenden Sie sie nicht in der Nähe von leicht entzündlichen / explosionsgefährdeten Materialien.

• Schalten Sie immer das Gerät aus, bevor Sie Aufsätze anschließen oder trennen.

• Blitzlampen und die LED-Reﬂektoren können während und nach dem Gebrauch sehr heiß sein!

• Fassen sie die LED nicht an; das kann Schäden verursachen.

• Fassen Sie eine Blitzlampe niemals an, bevor sie komplett abgekühlt ist und vom Akku getrennt wurde.

• Feuern Sie keine Blitze aus kurzer Distanz auf Personen ab.

• Die Minimum Distanz zu Personen: 30 cm, zu Tieren: 1–2 m.

• Es können große Ausgleichsströme und Spannungen auftreten, daher wenden Sie bitte alle üblichen Sicherheitsvorkehrungen an, wenn Sie das Gerät bedienen, Blitzlampen oder Blitzkabel etc. auswechseln, die Sie auch bei netzbetriebenen elektronischen Blitzgeräten anwenden würden.

• Schützen Sie die Aufsätze und das Netzteil, wenn Sie in nasser Umgebung arbeiten.

• Blitzaufsatzkabel müssen korrekt an das Netzteil angeschlossen werden.

• Falls das Gerät sehr kalten Temperaturen ausgesetzt war, kann plötzliche Wärme oder feuchte Luft zu Kondensation und Fehlfunktion führen.

• Transportieren Sie die Aufsätze ausschließlich in den Originaltaschen, -gehäuse oder -kartons und schützen Sie die Blitzlampe und die LED durch die Schutzkappe.

• Vermeiden Sie direkte Sonneneinstrahlung, die Aufsätze und Netzteil aufheizen könnte.

• Öffnen Sie das Gerät nicht. Im Falle einer Beschädigung oder offensichtlicher Fehlfunktion kontaktieren Sie das Elinchrom Service Center.

ANBRINGEN VON REFLEKTOREN

1. Schalten Sie das Netzteil immer aus, bevor Sie Zubehör und Reﬂektoren anschließen.

2. Trennen Sie das Blitzkabel vom ELB 500 Netzteil.

3. Montieren Sie den ELB 500 Aufsatz auf einen Dreifuß und schließen Sie die Sicherheitsschraube.

4. Platzieren Sie den Reﬂektor über dem ELB 500 Aufsatz und stellen Sie sicher, dass die Position mit der Schirmfassung übereinstimmt.

5. Drücken Sie den ELB 500 Aufsatz Verschlussknopf kräftig nach unten und drehen Sie den Reﬂektor nach rechts, bis Sie das Einrastgeräusch hören.

6. Prüfen Sie, ob der Reﬂektor gut sitzt.

7. Verbinden Sie das Blitzkabel erneut mit dem Netzteil und schalten Sie das Gerät ein.

REFLEKTOREN AUSWECHSELN

1. Schalten Sie das ELB 500 Netzteil aus und trennen Sie das Blitzkabel.

2. Montieren Sie den ELB 500 Aufsatz auf einen Dreifuß und verschließen Sie ihn mit der Sicherheitsschraube.

3. Drücken Sie den ELB 500 Aufsatz Verschlussknopf kräftig nach unten und drehen Sie den Reﬂektor nach links.

4. Nun ziehen Sie den Reﬂektor vom Aufsatz ab.

FLASHTUBE REPLACEMENT

1. Schalten Sie das Netzteil aus.

2. Trennen Sie das Blitzkabel vom Netzteil.

3. Platzieren Sie den Aufsatz horizontal auf einer harten, sauberen und trockenen Oberﬂäche.

4. Er muss gut festgehalten werden während des Entfernens und des Austauschens der Blitzlampe.

5. Lassen Sie die Blitzlampe abkühlen. VERWENDEN SIE IMMER SCHUTZHANDSCHUHE, UM DIE BLITZLAMPE ZU ENTFERNEN!

6. Entfernen Sie den Sicherheitsring von der Blitzlampe und ziehen Sie die Blitzlampe fest aus den Klemmen.

7. Falls die Blitzlampe kaputt ist, verwenden Sie Sicherheitshandschuhe, damit Sie sich nicht schneiden und verwenden Sie ein isoliertes Werkzeug, um die Elektroden herauszuziehen. Berühren Sie niemals die Metall-Elektroden.

8. Ersetzen Sie sie nun mit einer neuen passenden Original Elinchrom Blitzlampe. Ein isoliertes Tuch oder Schutzhandschuhe MÜSSEN VERWENDET WERDEN. Jeder Kontakt mit Ihren Fingern auf der Lampe kann dunkle Flecken hervorrufen bei der Verwendung.

9. Prüfen Sie, dass die Blitzlampe richtig ausgerichtet ist (mittig) und dass der Triggerkontakt die Lampe mit dem Sicherheitsdraht umfasst.

10. Schließen Sie den Aufsatz an und testen Sie ihn wie üblich.

WARTUNG

Der Aufsatz erforderlich sehr wenig Wartung. Um einen reibungslosen Ablauf zu gewährleisten, prüfen Sie die folgenden Punkte regelmäßig, bevor Sie den Aufsatz mit dem Netzkabel verbinden:

• Stellen Sie sicher, dass die Kontakte auf dem BlitzaufsatzVerbindungsstück nicht durchgebrannt oder verrostet sind.

• Die Blitzkabel sollten keine Einkerbungen oder Schnitte aufweisen. Vermeiden Sie das Risiko eines Elektroschocks, der lebensgefährlich sein kann.

• Stellen Sie sicher, dass die Plug-in Blitzlampe korrekt montiert ist.

• Verwenden Sie kein Wasser, um Staub und Schmutz vom Aufsatz zu entfernen.

VORSICHT!

Öffnen Sie unter keinen Umständen irgendeinen Teil des Geräts. Der ELB 500 Aufsatz kann nicht von Anwendern gewartet werden und enthält gefährlich hohe Stromspannung. Im Falle von Schwierigkeiten, kontaktieren Sie Ihren Elinchrom Vertriebspartner. Nicht kompatibel mit ELB 400.

REGELMÄSSIGE PRÜFUNG

Die nationalen Sicherheitsregeln erfordern häuﬁge Sicherheitsprüfungen der elektronischen Ausrüstung. Der ELB 500 Aufsatz sollte einmal jährlich überprüft werden. Diese Prüfung garantiert nicht nur Sicherheit; sie schützt auch den Wert des Geräts.
