4General Safety Information
This dust collector SPA 2000 should only be operated by persons familiar with its operation and specifically
authorized to use this machine.
This machine can only be used for dry cleaning and must not be used outdoors.
The result of the dust emission test refers only to the collection of dry wood dust/wood chips (moisture contents
< 30%).
Note:
When working with oak and beech dust, the cleaned air must be returned to the room it was collected from. This
is achieved if the dust collector is placed next to the woodworking machine it is connected to. In this case the
minimum room volume must be equal the rated volume flow rate. The volume flow rate, returned to the room the
SPA 2000 operates in, must not exceed 50% of the incoming air. Under normal ventilating conditions an incoming
air flow rate of 1x the room volume (m3)/h is to be assumed (change of air LW = 1/h).
Example: shop size 200 m2 x 4 m height = 800 m3/h.
In this shop the SPA 2000 can be operated (rated volume flow rate 800 m3/h)
Liquids, aggressive gases, inflammable media or glowing particles must not be collected with this dust collector.
The SPA 2000 can not be used in spray-painting shops. Collection of saw dust from woodworking machines, where
active ignition sources are not totally excluded (e.g. multiple blade circular saws), is not permitted with the SPA
2000.
Be careful not to damage the power cable by cutting, shafing, squeezing, stretching or running the dust collector
over it. Check regularly for any visible damage and aging. If a replacement is necessary, use a cable of similar type
and grade to the one originally supplied with the machine.
Disconnect from power after use, before relocation and before carrying out any service or maintenance work.
Use only genuine Elektra Beckum accessories with this SPA 2000 dust collector.
Note:
This dust collector has to be checked regularly to see if it is in proper operating condition. In addition to a daily and
monthly check, a yearly inspection is required.
Daily check:
- visual check for damages of the machine or any parts thereof
- checking the power cable for mechanical damage
- checking the dust collection bag for proper installation
Monthly check:
- visual check of filter for any leakage (dust streaks)
- checking the proper function of the minimum volume flow rate monitoring
Yearly inspection:
- check ventilator compartment for dust built-up, clean if required
- check if seal between collection bin and lower flange of barrel is damaged
- check if the connection between filter and barrel is still in good working order
The yearly inspection should be recorded in a log book. The log book should show the inspection date, any faults
detected and the name of the person having carried out the inspection.
Of course any faults should be rectified immediately. Use only genuine Elektra Beckum spare parts for repairs.

5Electrical Connection
This machine must be operated on a residual current device (RCD) of 30 mA capactiy and connected to an earthed
outlet while in use to protect the operator from electric shock. The supply circuit this dust collector is connected to
must be protected by a 16 A time-lag fuse or miniature circuit breaker. Connect to power mains only after the
machine is properly set up.
This appliance must be safety earthed. If the plug, fitted to the power cable, has to be changed or replaced, do not
connect the earth lead to one of the current conducting leads.
Connect the power cable leads in accordance with the following colour code:
Single-phase motor:yellow/green-earth
blue-neutral
brown-live
Three-phase motor:yellow/green-earth
brown-phase (L1)
black-phase (L2)
blue-phase (L3)
Use only plugs and sockets according to VDE 0623/BS 4343/IEC 309. Do not use other connectors or adaptors.
Do not operate this appliance with a damaged power cable. Risk of electrical shock. Worn or defective cables must
be replaced immediately. Have replaced by a qualified electrician or service centre only.
Children and juveniles should not be permitted to operate this machine.
Direction of rotation:
When connecting model SPA 2000 D with three-phase motor to the power supply check direction of rotation. With
a wrong direction of rotation only very little vacuum is generated. The vacuum gauge needle does hardly move.
The CEE plug supplied as standard with the machine has phase inverters build in to change the direction of rotation
without the need for opening the plug. Pull plug from socket and, with a flat blade screwdriver, turn the 2 poles in
the plug by 180°. Do not open the plug.
Required power cable for SPA 2000 D is 4 x 1.5 mm2 conductor cross section.
For model SPA 2000 W (single-phase) a change of the direction of rotation is not required.
Power cable conductor cross section required is 3 x 1.5 mm2.
6Minimum Volume Flow Rate Monitoring
This Elektra Beckum dust collector SPA 2000 can collect saw dust and chips from woodworking machines with a
dust extraction port of Ø 80 or Ø 100 mm. It is important to keep a certain minimum volume flow rate. This minimum
volume flow rate depends on the dust extraction port diameter of the woodworking machine. The volume flow rate
monitoring device (vacuum gauge) is carefully matched to this minimum volume flow rate.
7Commissioning
The SPA 2000 is supplied fully assembled. After unpacking it can be rolled to its site of operation.
The dust collector should be located as close as practical to the woodworking machine. It must be placed on level
ground. The suction or intake port of the dust collector has an outer diameter of 100 mm. The suction hose with
an inner diameter of 100 mm slides onto this port.
It is important to use an electrically conductive suction hose and that there is good conduction between the suction
hose and the extraction and suction ports.
If a spiral suction hose is used, the insulation of the metal spiral must be stripped on both ends for conductivity and
the hose held with hose clamps on the ports.
Use only suction hoses made of low-flammability material as per DIN 4102 B1 or similar.
If the dust collector is to be connected to a machine with a dust extraction port of less than Ø 100 mm a reducer,
fitting both the extraction port and the Ø 100 mm suction hose, is required.
Connection to a machine with two extraction ports requires the use of a T-joint, the suction side of which shall have
the same cross section as the combined cross section of the two intake ports.
After connection to the woodworking machine has been made, the dust collector is started first, then the machine.
Switching off is done in reverse order, i.e. the machine first, then the dust collector.
While in operation the dust collector should not be moved.

8Removal Of The Collected Dust
The dust collecting bin has to emptied as required, but always after every use of the dust collector.
To empty the bin, push the two hand levers up to lower the bin. Pull the bin out and carefully close and seal the dust
collection bag. Lift the bag from the bin and dispose of in accordance with all relevant local regulations. When fitting
a new dust collection bag, make sure it fits snug to the bin’s wall and does not pucker near the upper rim. Push the
bin back towards the centre and lift it up with the hand levers. The dust collector is then operational again.
9Filter Cleaning
After a longer operating period the filter will become clogged by fine dust. The dedusting device cannot remove this
fine dust from the pores of the filter. Clean the filter with compressed air, guiding the blow-out gun slowly up and
down the filter element. This work should be done in a room connected to a dust collection system or outdoors, and
must be carried out without impairment of uninvolved persons. The person carrying out the cleaning must wear a
dust mask (filter mask with particle filter, class 2).
The filter cartridge can be removed from the dust collector. To do so, loosen the hose clamp holding the filter
cartridge.
10 Filter Dedusting
If the differential pressure gauge indicator is in the red area of the vacuum gauge, the filter needs dedusting. Stop
the dust collector and wait for the fan to come to a complete stop, then turn the ratchet lever on top of the filter housing
clockwise for one minute.
When collecting fine dust dedusting is required more frequently.
11 Transportation And Setup
The dust collector must be transported in an upright position.
Read the instructions before commissioning this dust collector SPA 2000.
