1-1 Product Introduction
Thank you for purchasing this Wireless 11n Compact Storage Server. This Compact
Storage Server lets you easily share your files in your network. Simply plug your external
hard disk to the Compact Storage Server, connect the LAN port to your network, and do
some basic settings, and you're ready to share files. This Compact Storage Server
provides a total solution for the Small and Medium-sized Business (SMB) and the Small
Office/Home Office (SOHO) markets, giving you an instant way to share and manage your

Performance Notes:
We've packed a lot of neat functionality into a small, affordable package with this Wireless
11n Compact Storage Server.
Here are some notes regarding the performance of your device.
- For the best disk performance, please follow the wizard to format your disk into either
FAT32 or EXT2 file system.
- Limit the number of simultaneous movie or music streams being served by the
Wireless 11n Compact Storage Server.
- Scanning your USB drives for music will slow down the Wireless 11n Compact Storage
Server. You'll get better performance when music
scanning is turned off or after a scan is finished.
- Too much network traffic or wireless network interference can slow down file transfers
and media streaming.

Chapter 2 Familiar with the NS-1500n
2-1 Back Panel
1) LAN Port
You should connect the LAN port of the NS-1500n to your hub/switch, or one LAN port
of your router etc.
2) Power Jack
Plug the power adapter of the NS-1500n.
3) Release/R.T.D Button
Press this button release it immediately, the system will release the external USB hard
disk attached to the storage server. After the Storage LED turns off, you can unplug the
attached USB hard disk safely.
Press this button for more than 5 seconds until the Storage LED starts to flash, the
system will restore the factory default settings for the storage server and restart it.
4) Antenna SMA Connector
Attach the antenna of the NS-1500n to get good wireless signal.

Chapter 3 Device Installation
This is a step-by-step instruction on how to start using the NS-1500n
1. Plug your USB hard disk to the USB port of the NS-1500n. If your USB hard disk has
external power adapter, please make sure that the external power adapter is plugged
and is supplying power to your USB hard disk.
2. Connect the NS-1500n to your network as shown in the setup diagram below.

3. Plug the power adaptor to the NS-1500n as shown in the setup diagram below.
4. When the Storage LED is steady lit, the NS-1500n is ready.
5. There are two methods to setup the NS-1500n:
(1) Use the Windows-based Storage Server Management Wizard utility to do the basic
setup;
(2) Use the Web-based GUI to do the advanced setup, just go to the next step.
6. The default IP address of the NS-1500n is 192.168.2.5. The PC to setup the NS-1500n
should be in the same subnet as the NS-1500n. If the IP address of your PC is not in
the range of 192.168.2.1~254, please modify the Windows IP address of your PC as
following diagram. If you have used Windows-based Storage Server Wizard utility to
setup the IP of the Storage Server, you can skip this step, because the IP of the
Storage Server and your PC should be in the same subnet now.
Note: If you have to modify the Windows IP address of your PC, please remember the
original Windows IP address settings of your PC. After you finished the whole quick setup
procedure, you have to modify the Windows IP address settings of your PC back to the
original values to make your PC work well.

7. Once the IP address of your PC is in the same subnet of the NS-1500n, enter the URL
of default IP address http://192.168.2.5 (default IP address of the NS-1500n) into your
PC‟s web browser and press <enter>. If you have modified the IP of the NS-1500n by
some way, for example, by using the Windows-based Storage Server Wizard utility,
please use the new IP of the NS-1500n.
8. The login screen below will appear. Enter the “User Name” and “Password” and
then click <OK> to login.
Note: By default the user name is “admin” and the password is “1234”.

When you see the screen below, you are ready to setup the storage server.

The e-mail address of the e-mail box that will receive notification

The e-mail address of the e-mail box that will receive notification

SMTP Server
The address of the SMTP Server that the storage server will use
to send notification e-mail messages. You should refer to your email service provider for the correct address.
SMTP Port
The port number of the SMTP Server that the storage server will
use to send notification e-mail messages. You should refer to
your e-mail service provider for the correct port number.
Secure Connection
(SSL) is required
Select it if your e-mail service provider requires it.
Authentication
Required
Select it and fill in the login information below if your e-mail
service provider requires you to provide user name and password
when using the e-mail service.
Username
The user name required by SMTP server.
4-3 Notification
This page lets you to setup e-mail account that the storage server will use to send
notification e-mail to you when the status of the storage server changes. You can assign
two e-mail addresses (primary and secondary) for notification. Both e-mail boxes will
receive the notification messages.

Password
The password required by SMTP server.
Confirm Password
The password required by SMTP server. It should be the same
with the password above.
E-mail Subject
The subject of the e-mail notification messages sent by the
storage server.
E-mail Language
The language of the content of the e-mail notification messages
sent by the storage server.
Send a test
message
Click this button and the storage will send a test e-mail
notification message to the provided e-mail boxes. If you receive
the test e-mail notification message, it means your e-mail
notification settings are correct.

Events
Select types of notifications that you want the storage server
send to you by e-mail.

Chapter 5 Quick Setup
Quick Setup will guide you through the basic settings of the storage server step by step.
When you click “Quick Setup” in the left menu, a Quick Setup window will pop up.
Note: If this is the first time the USB mass storage device is used in the storage server,
the storage server will automatically erase old partitions and data in the USB mass storage
device and re-create partition and format the USB mass storage device. Please make sure
original valuable data in the USB mass storage device is backed up before doing Quick
Setup.
5-1 Build Disk (Partition & Format)
If this is the first time that the hard disk drive is used in this Storage Server, select “AutoBuild Disks & Create Shared Folders”. If the hard disk drive was used in the Storage
Server before and you want to keep the data in the hard disk drive, select “Leave Disks
Unchanged”. If the hard disk drive was used in the Storage Server before and you want to
erase all data and rebuild the disk, select “Clear & Rebuild All Disks”.
Click “Next” to go to the next step of Quick Setup.

Click “Cancel” to abort the Quick Setup. Any modified settings during this Quick Setup
session will not take effect.
If you select “Auto-Build Disks & Create Shared Folders” or “Clear & Rebuild All Disks”, the
data in the hard disk drive will be ERASED. The following page let you to confirm it or
abort the erasing operation. If you want to let the Storage Server build disk for you, please
select the file system format to build.
Note: If you will move the USB hard disk to a Windows PC, you should select FAT32 as
file system format. But FAT32 file system has a limitation that the max size of each file is
4GB. If the USB hard disk is dedicate for the Storage Server and will not be moved to a
Windows PC, EXT2 file system format is recommended, because it does not have 4GB file
size limitation.
Click “Prev” to go to the previous step of Quick Setup.
Click “Next” to go to the next step of Quick Setup.
Click “Cancel” to abort the Quick Setup. Any modified settings during this Quick Setup
session will not take effect.

5-2 Password
Enter the new password of storage server. A valid password should consist of 0~30
alphanumeric characters. The “New Password” and the “Confirm Password” should be the
same.
Click “Prev” to go to the previous step of Quick Setup.
Click “Next” to go to the next step of Quick Setup.
Click “Cancel” to abort the Quick Setup. Any modified settings during this Quick Setup
session will not take effect.

5-3 Network
Setup the IP address and DNS address of the storage server. You can manually assign IP
address or let the storage server to obtain IP address from DHCP server automatically.
Click “Prev” to go to the previous step of Quick Setup.
Click “Next” to go to the next step of Quick Setup.
Click “Cancel” to abort the Quick Setup. Any modified settings during this Quick Setup
session will not take effect.

5-4 Storage Server Name
Assign a name to the storage server. A valid storage server name consists of 4~15 case
sensitive alphanumeric and underline characters.
Click “Prev” to go to the previous step of Quick Setup.
Click “Next” to go to the next step of Quick Setup.
Click “Cancel” to abort the Quick Setup. Any modified settings during this Quick Setup
session will not take effect.

5-5 Turn on Functions
Select functions that you want to turn on.
Click “Prev” to go to the previous step of Quick Setup.
Click “Next” to go to the next step of Quick Setup.
Click “Cancel” to abort the Quick Setup. Any modified settings during this Quick Setup

5-6 Time Zone
Select the time zone of your location. During this configuration, the storage server will
synchronize its time with your computer and remember it. After this configuration, the
storage server will also automatically try to synchronize its time with public time server in
Internet every time when it restarts.
Click “Prev” to go to the previous step of Quick Setup.
Click “Next” to go to the next step of Quick Setup.
Click “Cancel” to abort the Quick Setup. Any modified settings during this Quick Setup
session will not take effect.
5-7 Confirm Settings
List the setting values of Quick Setup for your confirmation.
Click “Prev” to go to the previous step of Quick Setup.
Click “Apply” to make all the settings of Quick Setup take effect.
Click “Cancel” to abort the Quick Setup. Any modified settings during this Quick Setup
session will not take effect.

5-8 Apply Settings
After you click “Apply” in the confirmation page, the following page will display and the
Quick Setup will start to apply the settings to the storage server. It will take several
minutes to apply the settings.
After the Quick Setup settings values are applied, the storage server will restart and the
following page will display. Please wait for a while.

5-9 Shared Folders Automatically Created by Quick Setup
Quick Setup will automatically create some shared folders for you. The shared folder
names and their usage are listed as follows:
Public_USB1: You can access “Public_USB1” anonymously with reading and writing
privilege by FTP and Windows My Network Places (Samba). The absolute path in the
storage server of “Public_hdd1” is “[USB1]C:\Public\”.
Media: The folder “Media” is located under the “Public_USB1” folder, so the folder
“Media” is also anonymously accessible by FTP and Windows My Network Places
(Samba) with reading and writing privilege. The media files in “Media” folder can be
accessed by iTunes and DLNA compliant media adapters like Sony PS3, Xbox
360…etc. The absolute path in the storage server of folder “Media” is
“[USB1]C:\Public\Media\”.
Image: The folder “Image” is located under the “Public_USB1\Media” folder, so the
folder “Image” is also anonymously accessible by FTP and Windows My Network
Places (Samba) with reading and writing privilege. The image files in “Image” folder
can be accessed by DLNA compliant media adapters like Sony PS3, Xbox 360…etc.
The absolute path in the storage server of folder “Image” is
“[USB1]C:\Public\Media\Image\”.
Music: The folder “Music” is located under the “Public_USB1\Music” folder, so the
folder “Music” is also anonymously accessible by FTP and Windows My Network
Places (Samba) with reading and writing privilege. The music files in “Music” folder
can be accessed by iTunes and DLNA compliant media adapters like Sony PS3, Xbox
360…etc. The absolute path in the storage server of folder “Music” is
“[USB1]C:\Public\Media\Music\”.
Video: The folder “Video” is located under the “Public_USB1\Media” folder, so the
folder “video” is also anonymously accessible by FTP and Windows My Network
