2 EMISSION ADJUSTMENT GUIDE
2-1 General adjusting rules
A. Before starting the unit for adjustment, check the following items.
1. The correct spark plug must be clean and properly gapped.
2. The air filter element must be clean and properly installed.
3. The muffler exhaust port must be clear of carbon.
4. The fuel lines, tank vent and fuel filter are in good condition and clear of debris.
5. The fuel is fresh ( > 89 octane : RON) and properly mixed at 50 : 1 with “ISO L-EGD” 2 stroke oil.
6. Two line nylon line head with properly cut lines is recommended to be installed for proper engine loading.
B. Start and run engine for 1 minute at idle speed, and then for 2 minutes alternating engine speed between
WOT for 20 seconds and idle for 10 seconds. Adjust idle speed screw to 2,500 +/- 100 r/min. If engine does
not run correctly after this adjustment, proceed to the next step 2-2.
IMPORTANT : After adjusting carburettor according to the steps 2-2 and 2-3, the limiter plug(s) must
be installed in Idl e and H mixture needle(s) ho le (s ) to c omp ly w it h Em ission Directive.
2-2 Idle adjust screw, idle mixture needle and H mixture ne edle initial settings
1. Remove the plugs from idle mixture needle hole
(A)
(A) and H mixture needle hole (B) using limiter plug
tool (C) as follows.
7
(D)
(F)
(C)
(B)
(E)
(1)Put limiter plug tool (C) on limiter plug in mixture
needle hole.
(2)Screw limiter plug tool counterclockwise 2 turns
into limiter plug while pushing the tool.
(3)Pull out limiter plug tool with the limiter plug from
mixture needle hole.
(4)Repeat plug removal procedure for the other
mixture needle.
(C)
NOTE : When plug is damaged and left in the hole,
use needle or pin-shaped tool to scrape.
2. Turn idle adjust scre w (D) a nticlo ckwi se u ntil its
tip just toes throttle plate (E). Then turn it in clockwise
3 3/4 turns.
3. Turn idle mixture needle (C) anticlockwise to fully
come out until clicking sound is heard. Then turn it
clockwise 13 1/2 turns.
Turn H mixture needle (F) clockwise until lightly
seated. Then turn it anticlockwise 4 turns.

2-3 Adjusting carburettor
SERVICE INFORMATIONSRM-5000
1. Start engine and warm it up well as follows.
(1) Warm engine up for approx. 1 minute at idle
speed.
(C)
(D)
(2) Warm it up alternating engine speed between
half-throttle speed (Partial speed approx. 6,000
r/min with nylon line head, 7,000 r/min with metal
blade) and idle speed every 2 seconds for 2 minutes.
(3) Turn H mixture needle anticlockwise until engine
speed drops to approx. 9,000 r/min (When using
metal blade : 9,500 r/min) at WOT.
(4) Warm it up alter nating 3 times of engine speed
between WOT for 1 minute and idling for 10 seconds.
2. Verify idle engine speed and adjust idle speed as
follows.
(1) Verify idle engine speed. When the speed is in
the range of 2,300 to 2,600 r/min, proceed to step 3.
(2) If the speed is not in this range, adjust idle mixture
needle (C) to reach maximum idle speed with 2.5
mm blade screw driver.
(3) Set idle speed to the range of 3 ,300 to 3,500
r/min by turning idle adjust screw (D).
(4) Turn idle mixture needle (C) anticlockwise to
reduce idle speed 900 to 1,000 r/min in the range of
2,300 to 2,600 r/min.
(F)
NOTE : Engine speed must be allowed to stabilize
minimum of 20 seconds after each adjustment to
assure accurate tachometer readings.
3. Adjust WOT engine speed as follows.
(1) Before adjusting carburettor, WOT engine speed
should be less than or equal to 9,000 r/min (When
using metal blade : 9,500 r/min). If engine speed is
higher than 9,000 r/min (When using metal blade :
9,500 r/min), turn H mixture needle (F) anticlockwise
at WOT to reduce the engine speed.
(2) Turn H mixture needle clockwise to obtain 9,900
to 10,100 r/min at WOT (W hen using metal blade :
10,800 - 11,200 r/min).
(3) Run engine alternating 4 times of engine speed
between WOT for 30 seconds and idling 5 seconds.
Then confirm WOT engine speed if in the range of
9,900 to 10,200 r/min (When using metal bl ade :
10,500 - 11 ,500 r/min). When engine dose not run
in this range, adjust H mixture needle again until
engine runs within 9,800 - 10,200 r/min (When using
metal blade : 10,500 - 11,500 r/min).

4. Start engine again, and verify engine idle speed
ranges from 2,000 to 2,700 r/min, and WOT engine
speed ranges from 9,700 to 10,300 r/min (When
using metal blade : 10,500 - 12,000 r/min). Make
sure the cutting device does not rotate when engine
is idling. When final adjustment is completed, the
engine should idle, accelerate smoothly, and attain
WOT per above specification.
5. After adjusting carburettor, put new limiter plug
on the non thread side of limiter plug tool #91020
(G) as shown, and install new limiter plugs in idle
mixture needle hole and H mixture needle hole.
IMPORTANT : The limiter plugs must be installed
idle and H mixture needle hol es to comply with
Emission Directive.
NOTE : Initial carburettor setting (Idle adjust screw,
idle and H mixture needles) shown he re is to sta rt
the engine after restoration or carbure tto r change.
Idle adjust sc rew, idle and H mi xtur e ne edles turn
for designated engine revolution through procedures
indicated here may vary. As long as idl e and WOT
engine speed is set i n given range, the vari ance
would be ignorable.
