INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE: SOSPIRI
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
Remove the fire from the packing, checking that neither the fire nor the power cable has been damaged during transport. Do not operate the heater if damaged. The accessories are found in a box that is packed at the side of the fire.
INSTALLATION OF THE FIRE IMPORTANT: Access must be allowed for, so that the fire can be serviced. This involves the fire being moved forward in order to access the rear and top. The mains cable must therefore be long enough to allow this. Please also note the warnings at the back of these instructions.
The fire must be positioned so that the plug socket is accessible once the fire has been installed.
The inset dimensions are:
depth 23cm, height 57.5cm, and width 54.5cm.
To prevent the fire from being pulled over it must be secured into place. In the instruction pack there will be two sets of four screws. The 20mm cross head self-tapers are for securing the fire into fireplace suite (1). The 20mm flat head screws and black rubber expansion nuts are for securing into a standard fireplace either through marble or directly into a wall (2).
1. When fitting the fire into a fireplace suite, place the fire centrally into the hole and mark off through and at the
TOP of each keyhole slot
where on the back panel the screws are to go in. You may either screw the self- tapers directly into the MDF back panel or use a 2.5mm drill bit to start the hole. We recommend you drill no deeper than approx. 5mm.
2. If fitting into a standard fireplace, place the fire evenly into the hole and mark off through and at the
TOP of each keyhole slot where on the
decorative back panel the holes are required. A 9.5mm hole is required and we recommend the use of a 2.5mm drill bit as a pilot hole. Remove the fire and drill the 9.5mm holes. Push the expansion nuts into each hole.
You may either place the fire back into the hole and secure into place using the screws provided
OR leave the fire out and tighten the screws so
they are approx. 3mm away from the back panel using the keyhole slots with each of the four screw heads and carefully push the fire down and into place. Tighten each screw to finish.
Where the inset fire is being used in an existing chimney, it is important that the chimney is blocked off to prevent airflow problems with the fire. Where a chimney is not blocked off sufficiently it may cause the heater to cut out and the flame effect to stop or work poorly.
Electrical connections
Your appliance comes fitted with a plug that incorporates a 13A fuse. The replacement fuses must be 13A and ASTA approved. If the fuse cover is lost the plug must not be used until a replacement cover, of the same colour, is obtained an electrical retailer. The appliance is fitted with a moulded plug if it is necessary cut off the plug, for any reason, it must be discarded immediately with the fuse removed. Under no circumstances should any attempt be made to reuse the plug, do not insert into any 13A socket as this could cause a hazard.
WARNING THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED
IMPORTANT
The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code.
Green and yellow: EARTH Blue: NEUTRAL Red: LIVE
As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this appliance may not correspond with the colour markings in your plug proceed as follows: -
The wire which is coloured green and yellow must be connected to the terminal in the plug which is marked with the letter E, or coloured green or coloured green and yellow, or marked with the earth symbol The wire which is coloured blue must be connected to the terminal in the plug which is marked with the letter N, or coloured black. The wire which is coloured brown must be connected to the terminal in the plug which is marked with the letter L, or coloured red.
If the mains cable is damaged it must be replaced by the manufacturer or an authorised technical service centre.
Pebbles
Once the fire has been installed in the correct position unpack the pebbles from the accessory box. Add the desired amount of pebbles simply placing them on the tray around the curved screen. The pebbles are natural and therefore there will be variation of size and shape.
OPERATING THE FIRE Controls
All of the controls are located behind the front door of the fire. You may open the door by placing your hand behind the top left hand side of the frame and pulling. The door will swing open from left to right. The fire can be activated either by the remote or manual on/off switch. When the switch is pressed to the fully up standby position, the remote will turn the fire on illuminating the flame effect with no heat. For manual illumination press the switch fully down. In the middle, the fire is completely off. The remote will not work if the fire is turned on manually. The wheel next to the on/off switch is the dimmer; you may turn this to set the light to your desired brightness. For heating the fire must be switched on. The controls for the heat are located at the bottom right hand side of the fire. These consist of an on/off switch for the fan and a thermostat. To obtain heat, press down the switch with the red bar and turn the thermostat to maximum. Once the required room temperature is achieved turn the thermostat towards minimum until you hear a click. The thermostat will then regulate the room temperature automatically.
Thermostat information: There can be up to a 5 or 6 degrees drop or rise in temperature for the thermostat to activate or deactivate. The temperature is taken from around the fire, unlike a room thermostat that is usually positioned on a wall in the middle of a room. So please allow for inaccuracies. Other situations such as room size or position of fireplace i.e. near a working radiator might cause the thermostat not to work efficiently.

Automatic safety cut out
The heater is fitted with an automatic cut out to prevent any damage due to overheating. The heater will automatically cut out if the airflow is obstructed. Never cover the air inlets or outlets. To reset the fire, switch the fire off, remove the cause of overheating and allowed to cool for a suitable period then switch the fire back on.
MAINTENANCE Before any maintenance/cleaning is undertaken always disconnect the fire from the mains power supply.
Replacing light bulbs
Your fire uses clear 40watt bayonet light bulbs for the flame effect illumination. Replacements are available from good lighting/hardware or large DIY stores. To change the flame effect bulbs allow a suitable time for the bulbs to cool. Open the front door (as described in Controls) remove then replace the blown light bulb and close the door. Please note that replacement bulbs are not covered by the guarantee of the product.
Changing Remote Control Frequency (default set to J)
The fire and remote transmitter will come pre set to A. If for any reasons you need to change this, a dial on the back of the remote can be turned with the aid of a flat head screwdriver to a range of frequencies marked A . C . E . G and so on through to P. The fire will also need to be changed to the corresponding frequency set. Carefully remove the fire from the fireplace and lie flat on it’s back. Another dial will be visible on the base of the unit. Set to the same frequency as the remote and carefully put the fire back in its place. See installation on removing and replacing the fire.
Changing battery in the remote
On the reverse side of the remote near the bottom is the access plate to the battery compartment. Remove by placing your nail under the catch, push and lift. We only recommend an alkaline battery MN21 12 Volt. Ensure battery is disposed of safely. Do not dispose of in fire, do not swallow and keep away from children.
Cleaning
The fire can be cleaned with a soft cloth and non-abrasive cleaner.
WARNINGS
Do not use the fire in the vicinity of a bath shower or swimming pool.
Never use the fire to dry laundry.
Never install the fire directly underneath a fixed main socket.
Never cover the appliance during the operation of the fire.
The use of an extension lead is not recommended.
Particular caution should be applied to ensure that children do not play with the marbles/coal.
As with any electrical appliance whilst the instructions aim to cover as many eventualities as possible, caution and common sense should be
applied when operating your appliance, particularly in the vicinity of small children.
PROBLEM SOLVING
No power to the fire Check the wall socket, plug and fuse.
No illumination Make sure fire is turned on. Check heater is working, if not see above. If
yes change the bulbs.
Illumination but no heat The safety cut has operated see note on operating the Fire.
Loud humming noise when illuminated Due to moving parts, the electric fire will make a noise. This may vary
slightly. For a comparison it may be necessary to visit your local dealer. Important: your home is quieter than a busy store.
Noise from the heater when in use Same as above. As well as a slight humming noise the sound of rushing
air will be apparent. Both are normal.
Remote will not work. Check fire is in remote standby mode (see controls).
Check battery. Make sure the grey frequency dial on the handset is set to J
Thermostat will not cut in First see note on operating the fire. When turning the thermostat to
minimum you will hear a click. There is a certain amount of play on turning the wheel back to maximum. Try to judge this before another click turns the heater back on. The nearer the better for a more accurate temperature reading.
Thermostat will not cut out First see note on operating the fire. The reverse of above. However in
some cases the area around the fire may stay in the temperature range the thermostat cuts in and out at. This could be due to size or air circulation in the room.
