What is a programmable room thermostat?

... an explanation for householders

A programmable room thermostat is both a programmer and a room thermostat. A programmer allows you to set ‘On’ and ‘O ’ time periods to suit your own lifestyle. A room thermostat works by sensing the air temperature, switching on the heating when the air temperature falls below the thermostat setting, and switching it o once this set temperature has been reached.

So, a programmable room thermostat lets you choose what times you want the heating to be on, and what temperature it should reach while it is on. It will allow you to select di erent temperatures in your home at di erent times of the day (and days of the week) to meet your particular needs.

Turning a programmable room thermostat to a higher setting will not make the room heat up any faster. How quickly the room heats up depends on the design of the heating system, for example, the size of boiler and radiators.

Neither does the setting a ect how quickly the room cools down. Turning a programmable room thermostat to a lower setting will result in the room being controlled at a lower temperature, and saves energy.

The way to set and use your programmable room thermostat is to find the lowest temperature settings that you are comfortable with at the di erent times you have chosen, and then leave it alone to do its job. The best way to do this is to set low temperatures first, say 18°C, and then turn them up by one degree each day until you are comfortable with the temperatures. You won’t have to adjust the thermostat further. Any adjustments above these settings will waste energy and cost you more money.

If your heating system is a boiler with radiators, there will usually be only one programmable room thermostat to control the whole house. But you can have di erent temperatures in individual rooms by installing thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) on individual radiators. If you don’t have TRVs, you should choose a temperature that is reasonable for the whole ho use. If you do have TRVs, you can choose a slightly higher setting to make sure that even the coldest room is comfortable, then prevent any overheating in other rooms by adjusting the TRVs.

The time on the programmer must be correct. Some types have to be adjusted in spring and autumn at the changes between Greenwich Mean Time and British Summer Time. You may be able to temporarily adjust the heating programme, for example,‘Override’, ‘Advance’or‘Boost’. These are explained in the manufacturer’s instructions.

Programmable room thermostats need a free flow of air to sense the temperature, so they must not be covered by curtains or blocked by furniture. Nearby electric fires, televisions, wall or table lamps may prevent the thermostat from working properly.

First, follow the steps on page 7 to set the correct time and date.

1.3 Before you start

Open the flap on the front of the programmer and press the RESET button with a nonmetallic object until the display goes blank. This will ensure that the factory programmes

are set and that the micro-computer in the RESET product is operating correctly.

Note: clock is displayed in 24 hour mode.

Press PROG and Λ until the time on the display flashes.

Use + or - to adjust the TIME (press and hold to change in 10 min increments).

Press PROG to enter the TIME.

1.5 Running your programme

If you are happy to use the preset programmes on page 6, you don’t need to do anything else.

Your unit is now in RUN mode.

2.0Advanced

2.1Before you change the preset programmes

Please Note

The unit must be programmed in sequence. Event times cannot be programmed out of sequence.

If you want to leave a preset time as it is, simply press PROG to move on to the next setting.

During programming, if no buttons are pressed for 2 minutes the unit will automatically return to RUN mode, and the programme set up to that minute will be active.

Sometimes you may need to change the way you use your heating HU temporarily, e.g. due to unusually cold weather. The TP4000 has several user overrides, which can be selected without a ecting the thermostat

programming.

2.7 Frost Protection and Thermostat Mode

A constant temperature between 5°C-30°C can be selected if desired, for example, for frost protection.

·Use Λ or V buttons to set the desired low temperature.

-At 5°C a snowflake symbol appears indicating frost protection mode.

-At all other temperatures the snowflake symbol is turned o .

·To return to automatic programming press Λ and V together again.

2.9 Toggle between °C and °F scaling

To change between °C and °F scaling. Press V and - together to toggle between °C and °F temperature scaling.

3.0 Battery Replacement

When batteries are low a battery symbol will flash in the LCD display. You have 15 days to replace the battery before the unit switches o .

When changing batteries, remove old batteries and insert new ones within one minute and programming will not be lost.

IMPORTANT: always use high quality alkaline batteries

!NB. If the display ever goes blank during normal operation, the batteries will need to be renewed, the unit reset and the time reprogrammed. The event times and temperatures will be retained.

4.0Resetting the unit

Partial reset: Press RESET (used to restart micro-computer) if display freezes for any reason. This does not reset any programme, clock or date. It is recommended that this is done at time of installation.

User full reset: Press RESET whilst holding down PROG button. This resets event times and and temperatures back to the factory presets. The unit must be re-programmed. The correct time will be retained.

Le TP4000 vous permet de programmer jusqu’à 6 périodes de températures auxquelles votre chau age s’allumera et s’éteindra chaque jour.

Il comprend plusieurs fonctions supplémentaires pour l’utilisateur dont protection antigel, mode thermostat et a chage de l’heure ou de la température.

1.2 Programmes Prédéfinis

Votre TP4000 est livré préalablement programmé avec une série d’heures et de températures de fonctionnement qui conviennent généralement à la plupart des utilisateurs.

1.3 Avant de commencer

Ouvrez le volet à l’avant du thermostat et appuyez sur le bouton RESET à l’aide d’un objet non métallique jusqu’à ce que l’a chage

2.1Avant de modifier les programmes prédéfinis

Important

Le thermostat doit être programmé en séquence. Les heures de réglage ne peuvent pas être programmées hors séquence.

Si vous souhaitez laisser une heure prédéfinie inchangée, il vous su t d’appuyer sur PROG pour passer au réglage suivant.

Au cours de la programmation, si aucune touche n’est actionnée pendant 2 minutes, l’appareil repassera automatiquement en mode RUN (Fonctionnement), et le programme configuré à cet instant sera activé.

2.2Modification des programmes prédéfinis

a)Appuyez sur PROG jusqu’à ce que les 1ères heure et température prédéfinies s’a chent à l’écran.

b)Utilisez les boutons + ou – pour régler l’HEURE (appuyez sur les boutons en les maintenant enfoncés pour changer l’heure par incréments de 10 min).

c)Utilisez les boutons Λ ou V pour régler la TEMPERATURE.

d)Appuyez sur PROG pour passer aux heure & température prédéfinies suivantes

(Période 2).

e)Répétez les points b, c & d pour la programmation des Périodes 3, 4, 5 & 6.

2.3 Exécution de votre programme

Appuyez sur PROG – les deux points sur l’écran LCD se mettront à clignoter. Votre chau age sera maintenant contrôlé par les heures et températures programmées.

2.4 Dérogations	GB
Vous pouvez parfois avoir besoin de modifier temporairement le	FR
mode de fonctionnement de votre chau age, ex. en raison d’un temps	ES
exceptionnellement froid. Le TP4000 intègre plusieurs fonctions de
dérogation pour l’utilisateur, qui peuvent être sélectionnées sans a ecter

2.5Modification de l’a chage pour indiquer l’heure ou la température ambiante e ective

2.7 Protection anti-gel et mode thermostat

3.0 Remplacement des Piles

Lorsque les piles sont usagées, un symbole de pile clignotera sur l’écran LCD. Vous disposez de 15 jours pour remplacer les piles avant que le dispositif ne s’éteigne.

Lorsque vous changez les piles, retirez les piles usagées et insérez les piles neuves dans la minute qui suit pour ne pas perdre la programmation.

IMPORTANT: utilisez toujours des piles alcalines de qualité.

!NB. Si l’a chage reste toujours blanc pendant le fonctionnement normal, les piles devront être remplacées, le thermostat remis à zéro et l’heure reprogrammée. Les périodes de réglage et les températures seront maintenues.

4.0Remise à zéro du thermostat

Remise à zéro partielle: Appuyez sur la touche RESET (utilisée pour relancer le micro-ordinateur) si l’a chage cesse de fonctionner pour une raison quelconque. Cette opération n’a pas pour e et de remettre à zéro un programme, l’horloge ou la date. Il est recommandé d’e ectuer cette opération au moment de l’installation.

Remise à zéro complète: Appuyez sur RESET en maintenant la touche PROG enfoncée. Cette opération remet les heures et les températures d’origine du thermostat. Ce dernier devra être reprogrammé. L’heure restera inchangée.

1.3 Antes de comenzar

Nota

Si usted desea dejar una hora prefijada tal como está, simplemente oprima PROG y pase al siguiente ajuste.

Durante la programación, si no se pulsa ningún pulsador durante 2 minutos la unidad volverá automáticamente al modo de FUNCIONAMIENTO (“RUN”) y el programa establecido hasta ese minuto será el que quede activado.

2.2 Cambio de los programas preestablecidos

a)Pulsar PROG hasta que aparezcan en pantalla la 1ª hora y la temperatura preestablecidas.

2.3 Funcionamiento de su programa

3.0 Cambio de pilas

	Cuando las baterías están bajas aparece

4.0 Reinicio de la unidad

Reinicio parcial: pulse RESET (se utiliza para reiniciar el microprocesador) si la pantalla queda congelada por cualquier motivo. Esta función no reinicia ningún programa, tampoco la hora o la fecha. Se recomienda su uso en el momento de la instalación.

1.0Basis

1.1Uw klokthermostaat

Met de TP4000 kunt u maximaal 6 tijden en temperaturen programmeren waarop uw verwarming dagelijks zal aanen afslaan. U kunt één set tijden en temperaturen programmeren voor weekdagen en een andere set voor het weekend.

Hij beschikt over een aantal door de gebruiker toe te passen tijdelijke wijzigingen waaronder vorstbescherming, thermostaatstand en tijdof temperatuurdisplay.

1.2 Vooraf ingestelde programma’s

Uw TP4000 wordt kant en klaar geprogrammeerd met een set werktijden en temperaturen die vaak geschikt zijn voor de meeste mensen.
