SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING
Read and understand all instructions. Failure
to follow all instructions listed below may result
in electric shock, re and/or serious personal
injury. Save all warnings and instructions for
future reference. The term “power tool” in
the warnings refers to your mains-operated
(corded) power tool or battery-operated
(cordless) power tool.
WORK AREA SAFETY
■ Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered
or dark areas invite accidents.
■ Do not operate power tools in explosive
atmospheres, such as in the presence of
ammable liquids, gases or dust. Power
tools create sparks which may ignite the dust
or fumes.
■ Keep children and bystanders away while
operating a power tool. Distractions can
cause you to lose control.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
■ Power tool plugs must match the outlet.
Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use
any adaptor plugs with earthed (grounded)
power tools. Unmodied plugs and matching
outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
■ Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded
surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges
and refrigerators. There is an increased risk
of electric shock if your body is earthed or
grounded.
■ Do not expose power tools to rain or wet
conditions. Water entering a power tool will
increase the risk of electric shock.
■ Do not abuse the cord. Never use the
cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the
power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil,
sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or
entangled cords increase the risk of electric
shock.
■ When operating a power tool outdoors,
use an extension cord suitable for outdoor
use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use
reduces the risk of electric shock.
■ If operating a power tool in a damp location
3 ― English
is unavoidable, use a ground fault circuit
interrupter (GFCI) protected supply. Use of
a GFCI reduces the risk of electric shock.
PERSONAL SAFETY
■ Stay alert, watch what you are doing and
use common sense when operating a
power tool. Do not use tool while tired or
under the inuence of drugs, alcohol, or
medication. A moment of inattention while
operating power tools may result in serious
personal injury.
■ Use personal protective equipment. Always
wear eye protection. Protective equipment
such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes,
hard hat, or hearing protection used for
appropriate conditions will reduce personal
injuries.
■ Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure
the switch is in the off-position before
connecting to power source and/or battery
pack, picking up or carrying the tool.
Carrying power tools with your nger on the
switch or energizing power tools that have
the switch on invites accidents.
■ Remove any adjusting key or wrench
before turning the power tool on. A wrench
or a key left attached to a rotating part of
the power tool may result in personal injury.
■ Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and
balance at all times. This enables better
control of the power tool in unexpected
situations.
■ Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing
or jewelry. Keep your hair, clothing and
gloves away from moving parts. Loose
clothes, jewelry or long hair can be caught
in moving parts.
■ If devices are provided for the connection
of dust extraction and collection facilities,
ensure these are connected and properly
used. Use of these devices can reduce dust
related hazards.
POWER TOOL USE AND CARE
■ Use only with compatible Craftsman 20V
Max powered by DieHard slide-type lithiumion battery packs.
Page 4
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
■ Do not use the power tool if the switch
does not turn it on and off. Any power tool
that cannot be controlled with the switch is
dangerous and must be repaired.
■ Disconnect the plug from the power source
and/or the battery pack from the power tool
before making any adjustments, changing
accessories, or storing power tools. Such
preventive safety measures reduce the risk
of starting the power tool accidentally.
■ Store idle power tools out of the reach of
children and do not allow persons unfamiliar
with the power tool or these instructions
to operate the power tool. Power tools are
dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
■ Maintain power tools. Check for
misalignment or binding of moving parts,
breakage of parts and any other condition
that may affect the power tool’s operation.
If damaged, have the power tool repaired
before use. Many accidents are caused by
poorly maintained power tools.
■ Keep cutting tools sharp and clean.
Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp
cutting edges are less likely to bind and are
easier to control.
■ Use the power tool, accessories and
tool bits etc. in accordance with these
instructions, taking into account the working
conditions and the work to be performed.
Use of the power tool for operations
different from those intended could result in
a hazardous situation.
■ Hold power tool by insulated gripping
surfaces when performing an operation
where the cutting accessory may contact
hidden wiring. Cutting accessory contacting
a "live" wire may make exposed metal parts
of the power tool "live" and could give the
operator an electric shock.
■ Know your power tool. Read Operator's
Manual carefully. Learn its applications
and limitations, as well as the specic
potential hazards related to this power tool.
Following this rule will reduce the risk of
electric shock, re, or serious injury.
■ Always wear eye protection with side
shields marked to comply with ANSI
Z87.1 when assembling parts, operating
the tool, or performing maintenance.
Following this rule will reduce the risk of
serious personal injury.
■ Protect your lungs. Wear a face or dust
mask if the operation is dusty. Following
this rule will reduce the risk of serious
personal injury.
■ Protect your hearing. Wear hearing
protection during extended periods of
operation. Following this rule will reduce
the risk of serious personal injury.
■ Battery tools do not have to be plugged
into an electrical outlet; therefore, they
are always in operating condition. Be
aware of possible hazards when not
using your battery tool or when changing
accessories. Following this rule will
reduce the risk of electric shock, re, or
serious personal injury.
■ Do not use on a ladder or unstable
support. Stable footing on a solid surface
enables better control of the power tool in
unexpected situations.
■ Do not force the power tool. Use the
correct power tool for your application.
The correct power tool will do the job
better and safer at the rate for which it
was designed.
RECIPROCATING SAW USE AND CARE
■ Use clamps or another practical way to
secure and support the workpiece to a
stable platform. Holding the workpiece
by hand or against your body leaves it
unstable and may lead to loss of control.
■ Keep your hands away from the blade
and other moving parts. Do not reach
under the workpiece being sawed. The
blade or your hand could be out of your
sight.
■ Do not saw into walls or other places
where there might be hidden electric
cables. If it is necessary to saw in any
case: Remove all fuses and cut off all the
power supply to any wiring circuits which
may be hidden behind the wall. Grip only

SELECTING BLADES
Selecting the correct type of blade is
important in order to obtain the best on the
material you wish to cut. Selecting the right
blade will give you a smoother, faster cut and
prolong the life of the blade.
Blades with fewer teeth, 6 teeth per inch (TPI)
are typically used for cutting wood, while
blades with more teeth are better for cutting
metal or plastic. We recommend 14 TPI for
plastics and soft metals and 24 TPI for hard
metals.
INSTALLING/REMOVING BLADE

facing either up or down.
■ Remove the battery pack.
■ Insert the blade through the opening of the
shoe and into the blade clamp slot.
■ Rotate the blade clamp counterclockwise
as far as it will go.
■ Push the blade shank all the way into the
slot.
■ Release the blade clamp to lock the blade
in place.
■ Check that the blade is secure before
reattaching the battery pack to operate the
saw.
Blade Removal
■ Remove the battery pack.
■ Rotate the blade clamp counterclockwise
as far as it will go.
■ Pull the blade out of the blade clamp.
GENERAL CUTTING
See Figure 5, page ii
Hold the saw rmly in front of and clearly
away from you. Make sure saw blade is clear
of any foreign material. Be sure material to be
cut is held rmly. Small workpieces should be
securely clamped in a vise or with clamps to
the workbench or table.
■ Mark the line of cut clearly.
■ Depress the safety switch, then pull trigger
switch to start cutting. You can depress the
safety switch from either the left or right
side.
■ Place the shoe against the workpiece, then
move the blade into the workpiece.
■ The lock resets each time the trigger is
released.
Do not force. Use only enough pressure to
keep the saw cutting. Let the blade and saw
do the work. Use of excessive pressure that
causes bending or twisting of the blade may
result in broken blades.
PLUNGE CUTTING
See Figure 6, page ii
■ M a r k t h e l i n e o f c u t c l e a r l y.
■ Choose a convenient starting point inside
the area to be cut out and place the tip of
the blade over that point.
■ Rest front edge of shoe on workpiece and
hold r m l y in p os i ti o n.
■ Depress the safety switch, then pull
t r i g g e r s w i t c h t o s t a r t c u t t i n g .
■ With saw blade at full cutting speed,
slowly tilt saw downward until the tip of
blade starts cutting.
■ After blade penetrates the workpiece, tilt
saw until blade is perpendicular to the
workpiece.
METAL CUTTING
See Figure 7, page ii
Metals such as sheet steel, pipe, steel
rods, aluminum, brass, and copper may
be cut with the saw. Be careful not to twist
or bend the saw blade. Do not force. We
recommend using cutting oil when cutting
most soft metals and steel. Cutting oil will
keep blades cool, increase cutting action,
and prolong blade life.
Never use ammable oils since normal
sparking of motor could ignite fumes. Clamp
the workpiece rmly and cut close to the
clamping point to eliminate any movement
of the workpiece whilst cutting. When
cutting conduit pipe or angle iron, clamp
workpiece in a vise if possible and cut
close to the vise. To cut thin sheet material,
“sandwich” the material between two pieces
of hardboard or plywood and clamp the
layers to eliminate vibration and material
tearing.
