Safety
When in operation, theexhaust from thegenerator contains poisonous carbon monoxide gas. Carbon monoxide is both odourless and colourless and may be present even if you do not see or smell gas. Breathing this poisonous
ENGLISH
gas can lead to headaches, dizziness, drowsiness, loss of consciousness and eventually death.
• The generator must only be used outdoors in non-confined areas.
• Keep adequate clearance around thegenerator to allow for proper ventilation.
• Do not cover thegenerator.
The generator may emit highly flammable and explosive fuel fumes which can cause severe burns or even death. A nearby naked flame can lead to anexplosion even if not directly in contact with thefuel.
• Do not operate thegenerator near anaked flame.
• Do not smoke near thegenerator.
• Always operate thegenerator on adry, firm and level surface.
• Always switch thegenerator off before refuelling it. Let thegenerator cool down for at least 2 minutes before removing thefuel tank cap. Loosen thecap slowly to relieve pressure in thefuel tank.
• Do not fill thefuel tank to thetop, thefuel could expand during operation. Always wipe up any spilt fuel before starting thegenerator.
• Always empty thefuel tank before storing or transporting thegenerator.
• Before transporting, turn off thefuel valve and disconnect thespark plug.
The generator produces powerful, potentially lethal voltage.
• Only electrical devices should be plugged into this generator, either directly or with anextension lead. Never connect thegenerator to abuilding’s electrical system without thehelp of aqualified electrician. Connecting thegenerator in thewrong way can create feedback into themains network resulting in anelectrocution hazard. The connections must comply to all local wiring regulations and codes of practice.
• Do not connect thegenerator to any other power source such as another generator or inverter.
• Use aresidual current device (RCD) in highly conductive areas such as on metal platforms or roofs.
• Do not use thegenerator in wet conditions or wet environments.
• Do not operate thegenerator near water such as pools, beaches or jetties.
• Never touch thegenerator if it or your hands are wet.
• Do not touch bare wires or electrical sockets.
• Do not allow children or non-qualified persons to operate thegenerator.
The generator becomes extremely hot during use. Temperatures near theexhaust can exceed 65 °C.
• Do not touch hot surfaces. Observe all thewarnings on thegenerator denoting hot surfaces.

Operating instructions
Make sure that you have read and understood all thesafety instructions before starting to use thegenerator. If you are in any way unsure regarding theuse and maintenance of this generator, consult someone with
ENGLISH
therequisite knowledge and experience to help you.
Preparations
• The generator is fitted with anearth connection terminal (18). Get in thehabit of earthing thegenerator by connecting anearth spike driven into theground to theearth terminal before using it. This provides extra protection for theuser. An RCD can also be connected between thegenerator and theconnected electrical device/s. If at all unsure about earthing thegenerator, ask acompetent electrician for advice.
Checking the oil level
Note:
• The generator is equipped with an oil level safety cut-off switch which prevents the engine from starting if the oil level is too low or if the generator is not level. The switch will also cut the engine off if the oil level falls below the minimum level whilst the generator is in operation.
1. Make sure thegenerator is on alevel surface.
2. Unscrew one of theoil filler caps (9, 12).
3. Wipe theoil off thedipstick located inside thecap.
4. Fully insert thedipstick without screwing thecap back on.
5. Remove thedipstick and check that theoil on thedipstick is between themarks.
6. If there is too little oil on thedipstick, add more oil until the oil level is correct.
7. If there is too much oil, undo one of theoil drain plugs (10, 11) and drain off oil until thelevel is correct.
8. Screw thefiller cap back on.
Refuelling
Note:
• Always refuel outdoors.
• Do not fill thetank to thetop, thefuel needs room for expansion. A suitable level is to thebottom of thefuel filter located in thefiller cap.
• Petrol is highly flammable.
• Never smoke whilst filling thefuel tank or handling fuel.
• Keep asafe distance away from sparks and naked flames when filling thefuel tank or whenever handling fuel.
• Always switch thegenerator off and allow it to cool before refuelling.
• Use only fresh and clean petrol with anoctane rating of 95 or higher.
1. Clean thearea around thefuel tank filler cap and open it carefully.
2. Carefully pour thepetrol into thetank and wipe up any spills immediately.
3. Screw thefiller cap back on.
Starting the generator
Note: Confirm that thegenerator is on alevel surface to prevent theoil level sensor from activating thesafety cut-off switch.
1. Disconnect all electrical loads from thegenerator before switching it on.
2. Turn thefuel shut-off valve (6) to ON.
3. Set thechoke (4) to CHOKE (refer to themarkings on theair filter).
4. Set theengine switch (15) to ON .
5. Slowly pull thestarter handle until aslight resistance is felt. Then pull thehandle briskly to start theengine.
6. Once theengine has started and has begun to warm up, set thechoke back to RUN.
7. Allow thegenerator to run for about 3 minutes before connecting any electrical devices.
8
Connecting devices to the generator’s 230 V outlets
Note:
• Only devices labelled as operating on 230 V, 50 Hz must be connected to thegenerator. Do not use the 230 V and 12 V outlets at thesame time, i.e., do not run 230 V appliances whilst simultaneously charging a12 V battery.
• The generator’s rated running output wattage is 2600 W under continuous operation, and its maximum intermittent or surge wattage (for short bursts of extra power for starting appliances such as refrigerators) is 3000 W.
• The total running wattage of theelectrical devices connected to thegenerator should not exceed 2600 W.
1. Make sure that all electrical devices are switched off before they are connected to thegenerator.
2. Set theAC on/off switch (17) to ON.
3. Switch on theconnected electrical devices in order of their wattage requirement. Begin with thedevice that requires themost power.
Note: The AC on/off switch also acts as anovervoltage safety cut-off switch and trips if theload of theelectrical devices becomes too high. Reduce theload and allow thegenerator to rest for awhile before loading it again.
12 V outlet
Note:
• The 12 V outlet is only intended for charging lead-acid batteries (car batteries).
• The charging current varies according to theengine speed and load. The maximum charging current is 8 A.
• Battery charging must be supervised and discontinued manually otherwise there is arisk of thebattery fluid boiling and damaging thebattery. Whilst abattery is being charged it will emit anexplosive oxyhydrogen gas mixture. Batteries should be charged in well-ventilated areas, and well away from sources of ignition.
• For more efficient car battery charging, we recommend that a230 V AC car battery charger is connected to the230 V AC outlet of thegenerator.
• Do not connect batteries with capacities lower than 60 Ah.
• The 12 V outlet is unregulated, i.e. theoutput voltage depends on thespeed of theengine and theload on thegenerator.
• The overvoltage safety cut-off (20) will trip if theload from theconnected 12 V device becomes too high. If this happens, disconnect thebattery and investigate thecause. Press thereset button in to reset theovervoltage safety cut-off protection. Allow thegenerator to rest for afew minutes before it is put under load again.
ENGLISH
1. Connect thesupplied cable to the12 V outlet socket. It can only be connected one way, so there is no risk of reversed polarity.
2. Connect theclamps to thebattery terminals.
Note: Ensure that thered cable clamp is connected to thepositive battery terminal and theblack cable clamp to thenegative terminal.
Switching the generator off
1. Turn off all connected electrical devices and then unplug them from thegenerator.
2. Set theAC on/off switch (17) to OFF.
3. Let theengine run for afew minutes to stabilize thetemperature of thegenerator.
4. Set theengine on/off switch to 0 OFF.
5. Turn thefuel cut-off valve to OFF.
Care and maintenance
• The exterior of thegenerator should be cleaned using adamp cloth. Only use mild cleaning agents, never solvents or corrosive chemicals.
• If thegenerator is not to be used for along time, empty thefuel tank, start thegenerator and run it on the fuel remaining in thecarburettor until it runs out of fuel. This ensures that thefuel does not become aged during storage. Petrol which has been left in thecarburettor during prolonged storage can lead to starting problems.

Fuel filter
The fuel tank has afilter fitted to its filler hole. Regular checks should be made to ensure that thefilter is clean and in good condition. The filter prevents impurities from entering thefuel tank and thefuel system. Always clean thearea around thefuel filler cap before removing it and make sure that thefuel you use is clean and contaminant-free.
