Operating instructions
Make sure that you have read and understood all thesafety instructions before starting to use thegenerator.
If you are in any way unsure regarding theuse and maintenance of this generator, consult someone with
ENGLISH
therequisite knowledge and experience to help you.
Preparations
• The generator is fitted with anearth connection terminal (18). Get in thehabit of earthing thegenerator by
connecting anearth spike driven into theground to theearth terminal before using it. This provides extra
protection for theuser. An RCD can also be connected between thegenerator and theconnected electrical
device/s. If at all unsure about earthing thegenerator, ask acompetent electrician for advice.
Checking the oil level
Note:
• The generator is equipped with an oil level safety cut-off switch which prevents the engine from starting if
the oil level is too low or if the generator is not level. The switch will also cut the engine off if the oil level falls
below the minimum level whilst the generator is in operation.
1. Make sure thegenerator is on alevel surface.
2. Unscrew one of theoil filler caps (9, 12).
3. Wipe theoil off thedipstick located inside thecap.
4. Fully insert thedipstick without screwing thecap back on.
5. Remove thedipstick and check that theoil on thedipstick
is between themarks.
6. If there is too little oil on thedipstick, add more oil until
the oil level is correct.
7. If there is too much oil, undo one of theoil drain plugs (10, 11) and drain off oil until thelevel is correct.
8. Screw thefiller cap back on.
Refuelling
Note:
• Always refuel outdoors.
• Do not fill thetank to thetop, thefuel needs room for expansion. A suitable level is to thebottom of thefuel
filter located in thefiller cap.
• Petrol is highly flammable.
• Never smoke whilst filling thefuel tank or handling fuel.
• Keep asafe distance away from sparks and naked flames when filling thefuel tank or whenever handling fuel.
• Always switch thegenerator off and allow it to cool before refuelling.
• Use only fresh and clean petrol with anoctane rating of 95 or higher.
1. Clean thearea around thefuel tank filler cap and open it carefully.
2. Carefully pour thepetrol into thetank and wipe up any spills immediately.
3. Screw thefiller cap back on.
Starting the generator
Note: Confirm that thegenerator is on alevel surface to prevent theoil level sensor from activating thesafety
cut-off switch.
1. Disconnect all electrical loads from thegenerator before switching it on.
2. Turn thefuel shut-off valve (6) to ON.
3. Set thechoke (4) to CHOKE (refer to themarkings on theair filter).
4. Set theengine switch (15) to ON .
5. Slowly pull thestarter handle until aslight resistance is felt. Then pull thehandle briskly to start theengine.
6. Once theengine has started and has begun to warm up, set thechoke back to RUN.
7. Allow thegenerator to run for about 3 minutes before connecting any electrical devices.
8
Connecting devices to the generator’s 230 V outlets
Note:
• Only devices labelled as operating on 230 V, 50 Hz must be connected to thegenerator. Do not use
the 230 V and 12 V outlets at thesame time, i.e., do not run 230 V appliances whilst simultaneously
charging a12 V battery.
• The generator’s rated running output wattage is 2600 W under continuous operation, and its maximum
intermittent or surge wattage (for short bursts of extra power for starting appliances such as refrigerators)
is 3000 W.
• The total running wattage of theelectrical devices connected to thegenerator should not exceed 2600 W.
1. Make sure that all electrical devices are switched off before they are connected to thegenerator.
2. Set theAC on/off switch (17) to ON.
3. Switch on theconnected electrical devices in order of their wattage requirement. Begin with thedevice that
requires themost power.
Note: The AC on/off switch also acts as anovervoltage safety cut-off switch and trips if theload of theelectrical
devices becomes too high. Reduce theload and allow thegenerator to rest for awhile before loading it again.
12 V outlet
Note:
• The 12 V outlet is only intended for charging lead-acid batteries (car batteries).
• The charging current varies according to theengine speed and load. The maximum charging current is 8 A.
• Battery charging must be supervised and discontinued manually otherwise there is arisk of thebattery fluid
boiling and damaging thebattery. Whilst abattery is being charged it will emit anexplosive oxyhydrogen gas
mixture. Batteries should be charged in well-ventilated areas, and well away from sources of ignition.
• For more efficient car battery charging, we recommend that a230 V AC car battery charger is connected to
the230 V AC outlet of thegenerator.
• Do not connect batteries with capacities lower than 60 Ah.
• The 12 V outlet is unregulated, i.e. theoutput voltage depends on thespeed of theengine and theload on
thegenerator.
• The overvoltage safety cut-off (20) will trip if theload from theconnected 12 V device becomes too high. If this
happens, disconnect thebattery and investigate thecause. Press thereset button in to reset theovervoltage
safety cut-off protection. Allow thegenerator to rest for afew minutes before it is put under load again.
ENGLISH
1. Connect thesupplied cable to the12 V outlet socket. It can only be connected one way, so there is no risk
of reversed polarity.
2. Connect theclamps to thebattery terminals.
Note: Ensure that thered cable clamp is connected to thepositive battery terminal and theblack cable clamp
to thenegative terminal.
Switching the generator off
1. Turn off all connected electrical devices and then unplug them from thegenerator.
2. Set theAC on/off switch (17) to OFF.
3. Let theengine run for afew minutes to stabilize thetemperature of thegenerator.
4. Set theengine on/off switch to 0OFF.
5. Turn thefuel cut-off valve to OFF.
Care and maintenance
• The exterior of thegenerator should be cleaned using adamp cloth. Only use mild cleaning agents,
never solvents or corrosive chemicals.
• If thegenerator is not to be used for along time, empty thefuel tank, start thegenerator and run it on
the fuel remaining in thecarburettor until it runs out of fuel. This ensures that thefuel does not become
aged during storage. Petrol which has been left in thecarburettor during prolonged storage can lead to
starting problems.
