1. General safety instructions EN 60745-1
Warning! Read all the instructions. Failure to adhere to the following instructions may lead to electric shocks, res and/or serious injury. The term “electrical hand tools” in the warning text below is referring to your mains operated or battery ope­rated hand tool. SAVE THE INSTRUCTIONS.
1) The work space
a) Keep the work space clean and well illuminated. Cluttered and poorly lit
areas invite accidents.
b) Do not use electrical hand tools in explosive environments, i.e. nearby
ammable liquids, gas or dust. Electrical hand tools generate sparks that
could easily ignite dust or fumes.
c) Keep away from children and other spectators while using the electrical
hand tool. Distractions can make you lose your concentration and control.

2) Electrical safety
a) The electrical hand tool’s plug must t correctly in the wall socket. Never
modify the plug in any way. Never use an adaptor together with earthed electrical hand tools. Unmodied plugs and suitable wall sockets decrease
the risk of electric shock.
b) Avoid body contact with earthed objects, such as pipes, radiators, ovens or
refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electrical shock if your body is earthed.
c) Do not expose the electrical hand tool to rain or other wet conditions. If
water gets inside an electrical hand tool it increases the risk of electrical shock.
d) Do not misuse the lead. Never use the lead to carry, drag or pull the plug
out of the wall socket. Keep the lead away from heat, oil, sharp edges and movable parts. Damaged or tangled leads increase the risk of electrical shock.
e) When you use an electrical hand tool outdoors; use an extension
cord suitable for this purpose. Use of an extension cord for outdoor use
decreases the risk of electrical shock.

3) Personal safety
a) Pay attention to what you do and use common sense when using electrical
hand tools. Never use an electrical hand tool if you are tired or under

4) Use and maintenance of the electrical hand tools

are to perform. At the correct rate of feed, the correct tool will carry out the work
better and more safely.
b) Never use the electrical hand tool if the switch does not work properly to
turn on and shut off the tool. All electrical hand tools that can not be operated
by the switch are dangerous and must be repaired.
c) Unplug the lead from the wall socket before making any adjustments,
changes of accessories or storing the electrical hand tool away. These
precautions reduce the risk of unexpected start of the electrical hand tool.
d) Store electrical hand tools that are not being used out of reach from
children. Do not let people unfamiliar with the electrical hand tool or its instructions use it. Electrical hand tools can be dangerous if they get into the
hands of inexperienced users.
e) Maintenance of electrical hand tools. Check if something is incorrectly
set, if movable parts are getting jammed, or parts are broken or something else that might cause the electrical hand tool to malfunction. If something is damaged it must be repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by
poorly maintained electrical hand tools.
f) Keep the tools sharp and clean.

5) Service
a) Repairs and service should only be performed by qualied persons, and only
with original spare parts. This guarantees the safety of the electrical hand tool.

2. Specific Safety Regulations for Routers
1. Always unplug the mains lead before attaching the router to a table or workbench.
2. Keep hands away from rotating parts.
3. Do not wear any loose-tting clothing, gloves, necklaces, bracelets or other jewellery that can get caught in moving parts.
4. Make sure that the workpiece is securely fastened with clamps, etc before using the router.
5. Hold the router rmly in both hands and always feed the router against the direction of rotation.
6. Do not touch the router cutter straight after cutting; it gets very hot during use.
7. Make certain that the cutter has come to a complete stop before releasing the spindle lock.
8. Do not force the router. Balance the router feed rate to the spindle speed, do not exert too much pressure on the cutter or too little as this could leave burn marks on the wood.
9. Keep the ventilation grille free from debris and dust to prevent the motor from overheating.
10. Always wear a dust mask when using the router.
11. Always wear a visor or safety glasses. The router can eject wood chips into eyes and cause permanent eye damage.
12. Always wear ear defenders when working with routers; otherwise you will risk permanent hearing impairment.

4. Preparations
Things to consider before starting: What are the steps of the work process? Which tools will be needed? Which accessories need to be attached? How is the work­piece to be secured?
Test the router on a piece of waste material before cutting the real workpiece.
5. Use
5.1 Router Cutter Selection
Select a router cutter (bit) that is sharp, undamaged and has a shank that ts into the collet. Remember that a small diameter cutter requires a high speed.

5.2 Router Cutter Fitting
Important! Unplug the router and let the spindle stop completely before performing any service or maintenance.
1. Turn the router upside down.
2. Press in the spindle lock button (7).
3. Undo the collet nut using the spanner.
4. Insert a suitable collet.
5. Fit the router cutter into the collet (20 mm or at least half of the shank should be inserted into the collet).
6. Tighten the collet nut using the spanner.
Note: Do not overtighten the collet nut, the collet can become damaged and be difcult to remove. Check the tightness of the collet befo­re setting the cutting depth (if the collet is loose, the cutter could slip and alter the cutting depth).

5.3 Router Cutter Removal
1. Turn the router upside down.
2. Press in the spindle lock button.

3. Undo the collet nut using the spanner.
4. Remove the cutter from the collet.
5. Clean the collet, collet nut and spindle thread.
6. Tighten the collet nut by hand.

5.4 Fitting the Template Guide and Extraction Duct
The template guide is a very useful accessory which attaches to the bottom of the router and guides the router when cutting curved patterns. Start by making a template, but rst ask yourself: Which type of template? Inside template or outside template? An inside template’s hole contour will be (radius of cutter) less than the nished hole contour and an outside template’s hole contour will be (radius of cutter) larger than the nished hole contour. Test cut on a piece of waste material rst!
1. Turn the machine upside down and undo the screws holding the extraction duct in place.
2. Screw on the template guide using the three screws supplied.
3. Insert a cutter and adjust the depth stop.
4. Note: Bear in mind that the diameter of the cutter is limited when a template guide is used. Masking tape or similar can be used on the guide or workpiece to protect delicate surfaces.

5.5 Starting and Stopping
Grip both of the handles; press the safety catch (2) and then the on/off switch (1). Release the on/off switch to stop the router.
5.6 Variable Speed
There is a dial (12) on top of the router for adjusting the speed. Bear in mind that a cutter with a small diameter requires a high speed and vice versa (too high a speed can produce burn marks).
5.7 Adjusting the Depth Stop
The router has a depth stop with a scale. It can be raised or lowered to suit the workpiece and length of cutter using the adjuster (10). Set the depth stop and lock it in place using the locking knob (9).

5.8 Setting the Cutting Depth
1. Press and hold down the locking lever (13) during the entire setting process, slide the router body along the pillars until the right height is reached and then release the locking lever (13).
2. Fine-adjust the depth setting (if necessary). The ne-adjusting mechanism consists of a threaded rod adjusted by the ne-adjustment screw (14). Fine-adjust as follows: A. Turn the ne-adjustment screw (14) until it stops (clockwise = downwards)
up to 35 turns (if the whole rod is used).
B. Press and hold down the locking lever (13), make the ne adjustment using
the screw (14) and then release the locking lever (13). One turn of the ne­adjustment screw (14) is equivalent to 1.5 mm.
C. Turn the ne-adjustment screw (14) anticlockwise until it stops, in order to
return to the previous work setting later (for example if the circular guide is to be used for the next step in the work process).
Note: If the ne-adjustment screw (14) is screwed all the way down it is not
possible to slide the router body up along the pillars without rst undoing the ne-adjustment screw.

5.9 Fitting the Parallel Guide
1. Slide the rods of the parallel guide through the hole in the base plate and tighten the locking knobs (5)(17).

2. Attach the parallel guide to the rods, roughly set the parallel guide and tighten the locking knobs.
3. Fine-adjust using the ne-adjustment knob.

6. Making the most of the router
Start the motor and let the router get up to speed before starting to cut.
6.1 Making Copies
The router is equipped with a rotatable circular guide which is ideal for routing a set of workpieces (making copies). By turning the circular guide the depth of cut can be adjusted in 8 steps (3 mm difference between steps) without adjusting the depth stop.
1. Undo the locking lever
2. Push the router body down until the cutter just touches the workpiece.
3. Rotate the circular guide so that the highest point comes under the depth stop.
4. Lower the depth stop onto the circular guide.
5. Tighten the locking screw.
6. Repeat steps 1-5 before the next cut.

6.2 Hole Cutting Attachment
The router can be used to cut arcs and circles using the hole cutting attachment.
1. Dril a hole in the centre of the circle that is to be removed.
2. Remove the parallel guide, but leave one of the guide rods.
3. Attach the hole cutting attachment to the end of the guide rod.
4. Set the correct radius for the circle.
5. Tighten the guide rod locking knob.
6. Stick the point of the hole cutting attachment into the centre hole.
7. With the on/off switch set to OFF, move the router around the circle to check if it is the right size and make any adjustments.
8. Cut the circle in several stages, lowering the cutter approx. 2 mm on each circuit. Do not try to cut too deep a slot in one go!
7. Changing the Carbon Brushes
The brushes wear out and need checking regularly.
1. Make sure that the router is not plugged in.
2. Unscrew the caps (15) on both sides of the motor.
3. Remove the carbon brushes by carefully pulling the protruding springs.
4. If any of the brushes is shorter than 6 mm both need to be changed. Contact our Customer Service Department if you need help.
Note: After cutting for a long time at low speed the motor should be run at maximum speed for about 3 minutes to cool it down.
