The Magnewave Geoamp XT is a small but highly

effective acoustic amplifier that is purposely

designed to give optimal reception of oncoming

pigs in pipelines through the noises produced

by their passage.

The Geoamp is built around a specially designed electronics circuit that features
very high signal sensitivity to the frequencies that are most required to detect
acoustic signals from geoprobes in position to detect travelling pigs in pipelines.
It is important that it also reject interfering signals and noises from a number of
objectionable sources, such as power lines, telephone lines, two way radio traffic,
wind noise, traffic noise and industrial plant noise. Our Geoamp is very good at
doing that, although it should be noted that no geoamp can exclude all noise if it
happens to fall right in the special frequencies needed to detect pigs in pipelines.

Turning the knob to the right powers on the Geoamp

and further rotation will increase the strength of the

signal received from a geoprobe connected to the con-

nector on the left, marked GEO IN. An earphone can

be plugged into the middle connector marked EAR OUT.

There are two LEDs on the front; one to indicate that

power is on and the other to indicate when the battery

needs to be replaced. It will blink when that condition

occurs. The picture at the right shows the quick change

out of the batteries made possible by simply tugging at

the black bezel. The 4 AAA Alkaline batteries are re-

placed when the compartment is pulled back.
