GENERAL SAFETY RULES

WORK AREA

1. Keep the work area clean and well lit. Cluttered and dark areas invite accidents.
2. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
3. Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

ELECTRICAL SAFETY

1. Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and
matching outlets will reduce the risk of electric shock.
2. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
3. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the
power tool. Keep the cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts.
Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
4. When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
5. If operating the power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current
device (RCD) protected supply.

PERSONAL SAFETY

1. Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of
drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in personal injury.
2. Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Safety equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
3. Avoid accidental starting. Ensure the switch is in the off position before plugging in. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or plugging in power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
4. Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
5. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
6. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
4
Page 5

POWER TOOL USE AND CARE

1. Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate which it was designed.
2. Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
3. Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
4. Store idle tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
5. Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tools operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
6. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Well maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
7. Use the power tool and accessories in accordance with these instructions and in the
manner intended, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from intended could result
in a hazardous situation.

TWIN SAW SPECIFIC SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

1. Always hold the tool with two hands when in operation.
2. Hold the saw firmly to prevent loss of control.
3. Do not reach underneath the work. The guard cannot protect you from the blade below the work. Do not attempt to remove cut material when blade is moving.
4. Do not operate saw if the guard does not move freely and close instantly. Never clamp or tie the guard into the open position.
5. The guard should be retracted manually only for making special cuts such as “Pocket cuts” and “Compound cuts”.
6. NEVER hold the piece being cut in your hands or across your leg. It is important to support the work properly and securely to minimize body exposure, blade jamming, or loss of control.
7. Do not remove saw from work during a cut while the blade is moving. Do not force tool. Stay alert, exercise control.
8. The Duo Saw can saw lumber with nails, but it is advisable to remove all nails from lumber before sawing, as the life of the blade may be shortened.

USING YOUR DUO SAW

TIPS

• ALWAYS support the workpiece near the cut.
• ALWAYS clamp the workpiece securely so it will not move during the
cut. Before starting a cut, draw a guideline along the desired line of cut.
• ALWAYS keep the mains cord away from the cutting area.
9
Page 10

SAW BLADES

WARNING: THIS DUO SAW USES SPECIALLY DESIGNED BLADES AND NO OTHER TYPE OF BLADES SHOULD EVER BE USED. OTHER BLADES WILL NOT OPERATE SAFELY IN THIS SAW AND COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY.
Even the best saw blades will not cut efficiently if they are not kept clean, sharp and properly set. Gum and wood pitch hardened on your blade will slow your saw down. Use gum and pitch remover, or hot water to remove these accumulations.

BLADE GUARD SYSTEM

The blade guard, attached to your saw should never be altered for any reason. If it becomes damaged or begins to return slowly or sluggishly, DO NOT operate your saw until it has been repaired or replaced.
ALWAYS keep your hands and fingers away from the cutting area. Any part of your body coming in contact with the moving blade will result in serious injury.

STARTING A CUT

WARNING: USING THE SAW WITH A DAMAGED CORD COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. IF THE CORD HAS BEEN DAMAGED, HAVE IT REPLACED BEFORE USING THE SAW.
WARNING: NEVER USE THE SAW WHEN THE GUARD IS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY. THE GUARD SHOULD BE CHECKED FOR CORRECT OPERATION BEFORE EACH USE.
1. Slide the on/off switch forwards to start the saw.
• To prevent kickback, allow the
blades to reach full speed before you begin to cut into the workpiece.
• Make sure both blades enter
into the workpiece at the same time. Entering with only one blade will cause unexpected kickback.
2. When making a cut, use steady, even pressure.
• Forcing the saw causes rough cuts and could shorten the life of the
saw or cause kickback.
10
Page 11

CUTTING CROSS SECTIONAL MATERIAL

The life span of the blade and the quality of the cutting edge is dependent on vibrations being kept to a minimum. For this reason the material must always be clamped in place before work proceeds.
Flat bar iron
The blade is fed at an angle of
90° to the work surface
U-section
The blade is fed from corner to
corner.
Pipes
The blade is fed through the
object until it reaches the lower
edge, angled as it goes so that
the blade hits the material at an
angle of 90°.
Corner piece
The blade is fed diagonally
through the work surface.
Aluminium/copper
The machine must always be
equipped with the lubricating
device, to be used when
cutting all kinds of aluminium
and copper.
Spiral tube and longitudinal
cutting
Feed the blade through the
material, so that the blade only
protrudes through approx. 10
mm, do not drive it as far as the
blade's entire cutting edge. Then start to feed the blade
forwards or backwards.
Rectangular pipe
The blade is fed from corner to
corner.
Shaped plate
The plate must always rest on
three mounts, with one on either
side of the cut.
Thin plate
Only feed the blade down
approx. 10 mm. Then start
cutting.
The Blade Cover Guard is fixed to protect the operator from chips. When the blades rotates, the chip flow comes out in both directions, which must be observed.
