1. Wearing and Using Your Clarity Chat™ for the First Time
Everyone adjusts to wearing sound amplifiers at different rates.
On average it takes 2-3 weeks of daily usage to become fully accustomed
to wearing. We suggest you wear your Clarity Chat™ for a few hours on
the first day and then gradually increase your usage over the course of
the first week.
Keep in mind when you first begin to use your Clarity Chat™ sound amplifier
your brain will be startled to receive the sounds it has been missing. Sounds
such as car engines, keys dropping, doors shutting, typing on a keyboard,
or even your own voice may seem loud at first. With consistent usage over
time, your brain will adjust to these environmental noises so they are no
longer startling and you can begin to tune out these unwanted sounds.
The same thing happens with the human voice and understanding speech
in conversations. There may be speech frequencies you have not been
able to hear or understand in a long time, but with consistent usage of
the Clarity Chat™ it will amplify these frequencies to the point where you
should begin to understand them again.
6
Page 9
There are no hearing aids or sound amplifiers on the market that cure
hearing loss, but your Clarity Chat™ can help you start hearing sounds and
participating in conversations that you may have missed before.
2. Getting Started
a. Your Clarity Chat™ has a standard size (1B) thin tubing and a medium size
dome tip already attached.
b. Open the battery door, remove plastic tab from battery, and insert the
battery (refer to page 11 for proper battery insertion).
c. Close the battery door and your Clarity Chat™ is now turned on.
d. Hold the thin tube between your thumb and index finger. The dome tip
opening should be pointing in towards your ear canal. Look for the colored
number/letter combination on the tubing where the retention loop meets
the thin tube. (RED=RIGHT EAR, BLUE=LEFT EAR)
e. Place your Clarity Chat™ over the top of your ear until it rests securely
behind the ear.
7
Page 10
f. While holding the Clarity Chat™
in place, insert the dome tip
into your ear canal, and curl/
tuck the retention loop along
the inside body of your ear.
The dome tip should be completely, or almost completely,
in the ear canal. Proper insertion of the dome tip will ensure
you are getting enough amplification out of the receiver and
help avoid whistling.
Tip: If you prefer not to use the retention loop, it can be removed with scissors.
Tip: If you wear eyeglasses or oxygen, put your Clarity Chat™ on first and
make sure the tubing is as close/flush to the skin as possible. You can then
put on your eyeglasses or oxygen on.
If everything fits properly you can stop here. If you need a different
size tube or dome tip, go onto the next steps.
8
Page 11
g.Removing the thin tube from the earpiece:
Grasp the earpiece end of the thin tube. Gently turn approximately 90
degrees and pull to remove the ear tube from the receiver.
Tip: Thin tube size 2B is slightly longer than size 1B
9

h.Removing the dome tip from the tubing:
Grasp the thin tubing and firmly pull the dome tip to remove.
i. Find the correct size dome and press to attach it to the end of the thin tube.
j. Attach the thin tubing to the ear piece. Press until it snaps into position.
Now you can reapply to your ear.

a. Gently pull open the battery door with your fingernail.
b. Get a new battery and peel off the plastic tab.
c. Insert the new battery into the battery compartment with the (+) sign or
tab side of the battery facing up (you should still be able to see the (+) sign

e. Close the battery door and reapply to your ear.
Tip: If you feel resistance when closing the battery door, the battery may be
upside down. If the battery is inserted the wrong way, the receiver will not
work and the battery compartment can be damaged.
Tip: At the end of the cleaning tool (opposite the wire end) there is a magnetic
tip to assist in inserting/removing the batteries.
4. Battery Information
a. The Clarity Chat™ uses a size 312 zinc air battery. The battery life varies,
depending on the amount of usage. Battery life is up to 7-10 days.
b. The plastic sticker tab on the battery preserves the battery and when the
tab is removed the battery becomes fully active after 1-2 minutes of oxygen
exposure. Do not remove the sticker tab until you are ready to use the
battery.
12
Page 15
c.Why do Zinc Air batteries have a tab?
Zinc air batteries use oxidizing zinc and oxygen as their energy source.
The tab seals off the air holes on the battery and once removed the battery
is activated. It takes approximately 1-2 minutes for the battery to get
enough oxygen to become fully charged. After this time the battery door
on your Clarity Chat™ can be closed and it is ready for use.
d. It is recommended to keep your batteries away from metal objects such
as keys or coins because they can cause the battery to short circuit.
e. A voice prompt will warn when the battery needs to be replaced.
Tip: To prolong battery life, remember to turn your Clarity Chat™ off when
not in use.

6. Using with Telephones and Cellular Phones
Begin by switching to Program 4. Hold your phone to your ear as you would
normally hold it. If you cannot hear well, move the handset slowly along the
body of the Clarity Chat. There will be a spot where the sound becomes
louder and clearer. Stay in that position for the duration of the call. It may
help to turn the volume up on your phone.
Telecoils:
Your device contains a telecoil. The telecoil converts electromagnetic signals
directly from the telephone into sound. To use the telecoil, select the program setting 4, using the program control button. The telecoil setting may
help you to hear more clearly while using the telephone. After finishing
your phone call, change back to your preferred program.
Other uses of a telecoil:
Telecoils can be used with assistive listening devices called induction loops.
If you are at a public event and the room is “looped,” then you can use your
16
Page 19
telecoil. Set your Clarity Chat™ to the telecoil program 4. The induction loop
system transmits an audio signal directly into your receiver via a magnetic
field, greatly reducing background noise and competing sounds, which will
allow you to hear the speaker more clearly.
If you are in a location with an induction loop system, you will
notice this symbol. Examples of potentially looped locations:
Churches, Theaters, Concert Halls, Museums etc.

7. Cleaning your Earpiece, Thin Tubing, and Dome Tip
Gently clean your Clarity Chat™ with a soft, dry towel or paper towel in
conjunction with the provided cleaning tools. Never use cleaning products
or solvents because they can damage your device. ALWAYS SEPARATE THE
THIN TUBING FROM THE EARPIECE BEFORE CLEANING IT.
• The brush side of the cleaning tool is used to clean the earpiece from
earwax and debris.
• The wire end on the cleaning tool is for removing earwax and debris from
the dome tips. Remove the dome tip from the thin tubing, insert the wire
end of the cleaning tool, and twist in a circular motion.
18
Page 21
• The long thin wire is used to clean out any earwax or debris that may have
accumulated in the thin tubing. Insert the wire into the thin tube as shown
in the diagram below.
Tip: Clean your earpiece, thin tubing, and dome tips weekly to ensure
optimum performance and replace your thin tubing and dome tips every 3
months.

can help prevent corrosion and prolong
the life of your Clarity Chat™. These can
also help if you spend considerable
amounts of time in high humidity
environments.
• Always remove your Clarity Chat™ when
using hair care products, sunscreen or
cosmetic products. The microphone can
become clogged and cease to function
properly.

bath or shower or immerse it in water.
• If your Clarity Chat™ gets wet, do not
attempt to dry them in an oven or
microwave. Do not adjust any controls.
Open the battery door immediately, and
allow your Clarity Chat™ to dry naturally
for 24 hours.
20
Handle with care. Do not drop your
Clarity Chat™ or knock it against hard
surfaces.
Protect your Clarity Chat™ from
excessive heat.
• During transport or storage, the
temperature should not exceed the limit
values of 14° to 158° Fahrenheit (-10° to
70° Celsius) for a long period of time.
• During transport or storage, the relative
humidity should not exceed the limit
values of 10% to 95% for a long period
of time.
