COFFEE MAKING TIPS
Making a good cup of co ee is an art that is
simple to achieve. Here are some tips to help
you make the perfect co ee.
To enjoy an optimum avoured espresso
co ee, do not extract more than approximately
30ml (using the 1 cup lter holder) or for a
double espresso do not extract more than 60ml
(using a 2 cup lter holder).
NOTE
The co ee
Pre-ground co eecan beused and should
bestored in an air-tightcontainer, in a cool,
dry area. Pre ground co eeshould not be
keptfor longerthan 1 week as avour will
diminish. Donotrefrigerateorfreeze.
Whole co ee beans, freshly ground just
beforeuse, arerecommended. Co ee beansshould bestored in an air-tightcontainer, in
a cool, dry area butshould not be keptfor
longerthan 1 month as avour will diminish.
Donotrefrigerateorfreeze.
Water ow
When brewing co ee, makesurethe water
owsthrough the Co ee Filter atthecorrect
rate.
If the water ow is too slow the co ee will
beoverextracted and will be very dark and
bitter, with a mottled and unevencrema on
top.
If the water ow is too fast, the co ee will be
under extracted – the optimal avour will
not develop, the co ee will be watery and
lack the thick crema on the top.
The water ow can be adjusted by varying
the pressure that the co ee is tamped
(pressed down) in the Filter or by changing
the grind of the co ee.
The grind
If using a pre-ground co ee, ensure an
espresso grind suitable for espresso/
cappuccino machines is purchased.
If grinding co ee beans, the grind should be
ne but not too ne or powdery. The grind
will e ect the rate at which the water ows
through the co ee in the Fi
lter and therefore
the taste of the co ee.
If the grind is too ne (looks like powder
and feels like our whenrubbed between
ngers), the water will not ow through
the co ee even when under pressure. The
resulting co ee will be over extracted, too
dark and bitter, with a mottled and uneven
crema on top.
If the grind is too coarse the water will ow
through the co ee too quickly. This will
result in an under extracted co ee lacking in
avour and without the thick crema on the
top layer of co ee.
Tamping the co ee
After measuring the groun
d co eeintothe
Filterit must betamped (pressed down)
using the at end ofthe measuring spoon.
The ground co eeshould betamped quite
rmly.
If the co ee is not tamped rmly enough,
the water will ow through the water
too quickly and the co ee will be under
extracted. If the co ee is tamped too rmly,
however, the water will ow through the
co ee too slowly and the co ee will be over
extracted.
The taste of your co ee will, of course, depend
on personal preference and on many other
factors such as the type of co ee bean used,
the coarseness or neness of the grind and
the tamping pressure (pressed down). We
recommend experimenting by varying these
factors to achieve the co ee taste of your
preference.

CARE AND CLEANING
Beforecleaning, ensurethe machine has
beenturned o . Switch o at the power outlet, unplug the powercord and allow the
machinetocool.
Cleaning the steam wand and froth
enhancer
• The Steam Wand and Froth Enhancer
should always b
e cleaned immediately
afterfrothing milk. Never leave Steam
Wand immersed in milk. This ensures the
Steam Wand is keptfreeof milk deposits.
Failure to do this may result in milk being
sucked back into the boiler heating
system.
• Remove the Froth Enhancer and rinse
under warm tap water (Fig 10).
• Wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth.
If the steam wand becomes blocked, use
the pin on the Cleaning Tool to clear the
opening. If the Steam Wand is not wiped
with a damp cloth immediately afteruse
milk deposits will bakeontothesurface
and become hardertoremove. Ifthisoccursitisrecommended tosoak the
Steam Wand before wiping with a damp
cloth.

Replacethetip back ontothe Steam Wand
and secure with the Cleaning Tool.
DO NOT USE a scourer or abrasive cleaner to
clean Steam Wand or housing.
If the Steam Wand remains blocked, the tip
of the Steam Wand can be removed by using
the spanner in the middle of the Cleaning
Tool (Fig 12). Soak the tip in hot water
beforeusing the pinonthe Cleaning Tool to unblock (Fig 13).
NOTE
Cleaning the lters, lter holder and
brewing head
• The stainless lters and lter holder
should be rinsed under running water
directly afterusetoremove all co ee
particles. Should the ne holesinthe
lters become blocked, the ne pinon
the Cleaning Tool can be used to clear
the holes (Fig 14).
• The brewing head should be wiped with
a damp cloth toremove any residual
co ee grounds.
• It is advisable to periodically run water through the machine with the lter
holderin place, but without any co eetocleanout any residual co ee grounds.
CARE AND CLEANING

ace).
Cleaning the housing/cup warming tray
• The outer housing and cup warming tray
can be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth
(do not use abrasive cleansers, pads or
cloths which can scratch the surfaces).
Cleaning the drip tray
• The Drip Tray should be removed,
emptied and cleaned at regular intervals,
particularly when the water level
indicator is exposed indicating the drip
tray is full (Fig 16).
• Remove the grid and water level
indicator from the drip tray and wash all
three parts in warm water using a nonabrasive washing liquid. Rinse and dry
thoroughly.
Decalcifying
After regular use, hard water can cause
mineral build up in and on many of the
inner functioning components, reducing the
brewing ow, power of the machine, and
a ecting the quality of co ee.
We advise decalcifying the machine on a
regular basis (every 2-3 months) using either
a commercial decalcifying agent formulated
specially for boiler espresso machines, or a
mixture of white vinegar and water. Use the
following as a guide:
Diluted solution (for softer water)
• 1 part white vinegar
• 2 partscold tap water
Concentrated solution (for harder water)
• 1 part white vinegar
• 1 partcold tap water
Do not use powdered decalcifying agents.
DO NOT IMMERSE ANY PART OF YOUR ESPRESSO MACHINE IN WATER OR
ANY OTHER LIQUID. THE WATER TANK SHOULD NEVER BE REMOVED OR
COMPLETELY EMPTIED DURING DECALCIFYING.
