I. Product Overview
The Canon Color imageRUNNER C2620/C3220 are MEAP (Multifunctional
Embedded Application Platform) enabled Color imageRUNNER devices, part of
Segment 2, achieving speeds of up to 26 pages per minute (ppm) and up to 32
ppm respectively in color and black-and-white. Standard stackless duplexing
enables these devices to output two-sided pages at speeds up to 27 images per
minute. Twin laser beam technology, built into each of the four imaging units,
helps to realize these productive speeds. The Intermediate Transfer Belt (ITB)
provides for a shorter, flatter paper path, which supports the system’s high output
speeds and allows for more accurate printing on heavyweight paper stocks. The
features of both models are identical, except for speed.
Certain optional software features are preinstalled on these units and to activate
the software programs, the feature must be licensed through the LMS (License
Management System) server. This replaces the need for additional hardware or
dongles to activate new software. Refer to the LMS section herein for further
details.
Effective July 1, 2005, access is limited to the Technical Support Center to
certified technicians. Please refer to the Technical Support section for more
information.
As an ENERGY STAR Partner, Canon U.S.A., Inc. has determined that these
products meets the Energy Star guidelines for energy efficiency.

C. Color imagePlatform Controller
The internal imagePlatform controller has been designed specifically for use
with the Color imageRUNNER C2620/C3220. Featuring dual 250MHz
processors, 1GB RAM and a 40GB hard disk drive standard, the
imagePlatform controller achieves high-speed image processing of color data.
Its large memory capacity allows the simultaneous processing of multiple
tasks, or full concurrency. Scan Once Print Many (SOPM) allows jobs to be
completed faster and reduces wear and tear on originals and scanner
hardware, thereby increasing reliability and parts longevity. SOPM also
delivers consistency from the first set to the last, as each document set is
created from identical digital information. A standard 10/100 BaseT Ethernet
interface provides for an instant network connection upon installation for
Remote User Interface (RUI) support.
III. Optional Accessories
A. Color Network Multi-PDL Printer Kit-A2 (Optional)
This Canon controller provides printing functionality to the general office user.
It is suitable for everyday office use, and is most appropriate when only a few
(less than five) people are sharing the device, using text-intensive Microsoft
Office applications and with a relatively low print volume. This controller is not
appropriate for those using Macintosh operating systems.
B. imagePASS-C1 v.2 (Optional)
The imagePASS-C1 v. 2 is a piggyback print controller suitable when five or
more people are sharing the device using primarily Adobe applications, with a
relatively large print volume requirement.
C. ColorPASS-Z3000 (Optional)
Canon’s ColorPASS-Z3000, an external controller for the Color
imageRUNNER C3220, is designed for the light production and graphics
markets. The ColorPASS-Z3000 is not compatible with the Color
imageRUNNER C2620.
D. Color Universal Send (Optional)
Universal Send makes it simple to convert color hard-copy documents into
digital files for sending to one or many destinations. With this feature, the enduser can scan, save and instantly send documents in any of five file formats,
including JPEG, TIFF, PDF and compact PDF.
Note: The Color Universal Send function requires a dongle when installed on
the Color imageRUNNER C2620/C3220.
E. Paper Sources (Optional)
The Color imageRUNNER C2620/C3220 offers an optional 2 x 550-sheet
Cassette Feeding Unit-X1 and/or the 2,700-sheet Side Paper Deck-P1. The
maximum 6-way, 5,000-sheet paper supply minimizes paper reloading and
keeps busy corporate workgroups moving.

F. Finishing (Optional)
Canon offers a choice of three finishing output options for these devices;
Finisher-M1, Finisher-N1, and Saddle Finisher-N2. From simple collating and
set stapling to advanced saddle stitch finishing and booklet folding, the Color
imageRUNNER C2620/C3220 automates every step of the document
finishing process.
G. Softw are Applications (Optional)
Compatible Software applications for the Color imageRUNNER C2620/C3220
include:
• NetSpot Suite
• imageWARE Suite
• eCopy Suite
H. Clustering Kit-A1 (Optional)
The Canon Clustering Kit-A1 is a software solution that turns two identically
configured Color imageRUNNER C2620 or two Color imageRUNNER C3220
devices into a virtual printer. A Color imageRUNNER C2620 can only be
clustered together with a Color imageRUNNER C2620. Likewise, a Color
imageRUNNER C3220 may only be clustered with a Color imageRUNNER
C3220.
The Clustering Kit requires a dedicated server, which is not included with the
software purchase. Using a dedicated server, two Color imageRUNNER
C2620 or two Color imageRUNNER C3220 devices, and two imagePASS-C1
V2 controllers, the Clustering Kit software can turn these two devices into
what appears as one virtual printer. The client “sees” one device while the
software determines the fastest way to send out a print job. The Clustering Kit
software can split the print job between both printers, or depending upon
scheduled print jobs, send the print job to the printer with the lightest load.
The Clustering Kit software is installed on a dedicated server separate from
the client PC and requires a permanent dongle. The Clustering Kit software
package includes one dongle and a software License Activation key. The
software License Activation key is required for software installation.

1. Software Features
The Clustering Kit server manages load balancing and print workflow
between the two Canon imageRUNNER devices in each printer group
as follows:
• Fastest Single Engine Printer: Sends print jobs to the fastest printer.
• Copy Split: Splits multiple copies or sets of a single print job
between the two-imageRUNNER devices effectively printing up to
52-ppm and 64-ppm depending on the device.
• Long Job Split: Divides large single print jobs between the twoimageRUNNER devices.
• Preferred Printer: An end-user can manually choose a specific
device in which to send a print job.
Additionally, the Clustering Kit will redirect print jobs based on errors
and other criteria.
2. Software Utilities
• Command WorkStation v4.2 is a comprehensive print workflow
management application designed for monitoring jobs and print
queues.
• EFI Hot Folders: Software can be installed on any Windows client
computer networked to a Clustering Kit server. Hot Folders allow the
user to store their favorite print options and imposition settings in
special shortcut folders. By dragging and dropping a print job on a
shortcut folder, the print job is automatically sent to the Clustering
Kit-A1 server with the predefined print parameters.
• Job Monitor: Can be installed on any client computer that is
networked to the Clustering Kit server. Job Monitor provides print job
status on the Clustering Kit server and shows print job history.

3. Clustering Kit Rules
Six Color imageRUNNER C2620 devices or six Color imageRUNNER
C3220 devices can be configured in up to ten groups on one Clustering
Kit server:
• Each Clustering Kit printer group is comprised of two Color
imageRUNNER C2620 or two Color imageRUNNER C3220 devices
each configured with an imagePASS-C1 V.2.
• A maximum of six Color imageRUNNER devices can be managed
through one Clustering Kit server.
• One imageRUNNER can belong to more than one group.
• A maximum of ten groups can be configured on one Clustering Kit
server.
• Each group must be configured with identical paper handling
features.
