Introduction Center Channel Plus Placement
Center Channel Plus is a two-way acoustic-suspension speaker system optimized for use as the center channel speaker in a Dolby
®
Digital
or Dolby® Pro Logic
®
Surround system. Its four 3" woofers and ring-radiator tweeter provide the performance and power-handling appropriate to the finest home theater systems.
Center Channel II is a similar speaker featuring two 3" woofers instead of four.
For both the Center Channel Plus and the Center Channel II, use the “SMALL” center channel setting of a Dolby Digital decoder. Also for both speakers, use the “NORMAL” setting of a Dolby Surround with Pro Logic decoder. Both of these settings direct low-bass sound to the left and right main speakers or the subwoofers.
Because a primary purpose of the center channel is to keep dialog firmly centered on the TV screen, a center channel speaker should be placed in close proximity to the TV set as shown in Figure 1. Both of our center channel speakers are magnetically shielded to allow this placement without distorting the picture.

The other speakers in the system should be placed approximately as shown in Figure 1 (consult “Getting The Most From Your Dolby Surround System” for a more detailed discussion of placing the other speakers).
Connections
Your center channel speaker should be connected to the center channel speaker outputs on your Dolby Digital or Dolby Surround with Pro Logic receiver or decoder/ amplifier as shown in Figure 4. Important note: All speakers should be connected in phase. The terminals on your center channel speaker and on many receivers and amplifiers are coded red (+) and black (–) to insure correct phase. Balancing
Dolby Digital and Dolby Surround signal processors provide an electronic system for balancing the sonic output of the left, center, right and surround speakers. When you activate this test mode, it sends a “noise” signal briefly to each channel in succession. Simply adjust your unit’s appropriate channel balancing controls until the center and surround speakers play the test sound at roughly the same output level as the left and right speakers. Once you’ve adjusted your system this way, it will reproduce Dolby Surround and Dolby Digital program material with the exact balance originally intended. Consult the manual of your Dolby decoder unit for complete instructions on channel balancing.
Home Theater Electronic Choices
Dolby Pro Logic:
Set the surround mode on your receiver to Dolby Pro Logic when viewing program material encoded with “Dolby Surround the “NORMAL” center channel mode on your processor.
If the program you are viewing does not specifically state it was encoded for Dolby Surround, or if you are listening to conventional stereo recordings, be sure to switch your amplifier or receiver to a surround setting that does not use Dolby Pro Logic processing or switch the surround processing off.

Cleaning The Cabinets
If more than dusting is needed, the finish on your center channel speaker can be cleaned with a window or vinyl cleaning product. Avoid spraying the cleaner directly on the speaker grilles to prevent damage to them or the speaker.
