About tthis uunit
Your new Incognito Exterior speakers have been designed specifically for outdoor use.
They are the result of an extensive research and development programme undertaken to provide you with accurate, uncompromised reproduction of music in this environment. These ES10 Exterior speakers can be easily mounted vertically or horizontally into your outdoor listening area and can be used with an Incognito Multi-Room system or conventional Hi-Fi or AV equipment.
Please take time to read this guide, as it contains important installation information. The ES10 can only be as good as the system it is connected to. Please do not compromise on your audio/visual source components. Naturally, we recommend products from the Cambridge Audio Azur range.
Now we invite you to sit back, relax and enjoy!

It is advisable to plan all aspects of installation in advance of work beginning. Great care should be taken to ensure that all building regulations are followed. If in doubt consult an expert.
When placing the ES 10 speakers, thought should be given to positions which give the best desired sound coverage, Please ensure the speakers are placed seven feet apart, ear level to the listener. Also, locate speakers taking into account location of furnishings for optimal stereo reproduction.
Points tto rremember bbefore bbefore mmounting yyour sspeakers:
- Please place your ES10 speakers at least two feet from any television or computer screen, the speakers are not video shielded.
- Measure the length of speaker wire you need to connect both speakers to your receiver or amplifier.
- Think about the best route for speaker cable, the wire must not be pulled, pinched or tripped over.
PREPARING THE LOCATION
Your speakers are an example of superior design and craftsmanship. These suggestions will help you care for them so you can enjoy them for years.
The ES10 speakers are manufactured to resist a variety of weather conditions. For best results position them so they are not directly exposed to the elements. The underside of eaves and overhangs are the ideal location and provide the best protection for exterior speakers.
Keep the speakers away from dust or dirt, which can cause premature wear of parts.
Wipe the speaker frame occasionally with a damp cloth to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents or strong detergents.

Before installing and routing your wiring, you may wish to test the speaker setup to check for a good stereo sound in your listening area.
To mmount tthe bbracket ffollow tthese ssteps:
1. Unscrew and remove the bracket from the speaker. You can mount
the bracket either horizontally or vertically onto the chosen wall.
2. Ensure the chosen wall or surface is solid, never mount a speaker on
a plasterboard or unreinforced wall.
3. Use the large middle hole to route your wiring (the bracket will cover
the hole in the wall). Use the remaining keyholes to screw your fixings into the wall.
4. Attach the speaker to bracket and adjust the speaker to face the
listening area.
Please NNote:
Fixings and screws are not supplied. If you are unsure as to which fixings are suitable for this bracket and speaker, you should take professional advice and obtain the correct fixings.

The negative terminal on the amplifier left channel, marked - or coloured black, must be connected to the negative terminal on the left loudspeaker. Repeat connections for the right channel.
The speaker cable is coded with a bead or stripe down one lead’s insulation, or has differently coloured wires.
5. If your speakers are wired incorrectly they will be out of phase and sound hollow and indistinct, with a weak bass. Re-check your connections for correct polarity and reverse the connections if necessary.
Do not compromise the performance of your system by using inferior quality speaker cables. We recommend that high quality cables of 16 gauge or higher be used. Your professional dealer will give you good advice. Always unplug all A.C. powered components before making any loudspeaker or component connections. This will avoid the risk of electric shock or damage to your equipment.
Follow these steps to connect the speaker to your amplification system:
1. Route the speaker cable from your amplification system to the speakers.
Q
Avoid routing the speaker cable near electrical wires
Q
Do not nail or staple the cable
2. Separate about 100mm of speaker cable at each end.
3. Using a wire stripper, remove about 10mm of insulation from both ends of each conductor, and then twist the strands of each conductor (fig.1).
4. Observing polarity is of the utmost importance while connecting your speakers. Switch off your amplifier whenever making connections. Connect the positive terminal on the amplifier left channel, marked + or coloured red, to the positive terminal on the left loudspeaker.
