OPERATING YOUR TOASTER
Before the First Use
1. Carefully remove the toaster from the packaging. Remove
any stickers or temporary labels affixed to the toaster.
2. Make sure all packing materials are removed from the
toasting slots.
3. Place the toaster on a clean, dry, sturdy surface that is clear
from any potentially flammable materials.
4. Ensure the crumb tray is properly installed. The crumb tray
is located at base of the toaster on the opposite side from the controls. The tray should be inserted completely.
5. Plug the power cord into a suitable 110V/120V AC
electrical outlet away from the edge of a counter or table.
CAUTION
To reduce the risk of electric shock, insert the polarized plug (with one blade wider than the other) into a polarized outlet. If the plug does not fit into the outlet completely, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.
WARNING
Fire may occur if the toaster is covered, touching or near any flammable materials, including fabrics, wall coverings, towels, curtains, or like materials when in operation.
6
ATTENTION
Do not operate the toaster empty.
Begin Toasting Step1: LOAD
Place one slice of bread at a time in
each toasting slot. For best results, use a similar type and thickness of bread in a single toasting cycle. If toasting large items such as bagels, cut them in half and place one half in each slot. Position the cut sides facing the center of the toaster.
WARNING
Inserting oversized foods, metal utensils or materials of any kind may cause risk of fire or electric shock.
Step 2: SELECT SHADE
Turn the Shade Control Knob to choose
the desired level of browning. Turn the knob clockwise for darker browning and counter clockwise for lighter browning. For your first toasting cycle, you may want
LIGHTER
to try the midpoint on the Shade Control Knob. Or, refer to the Suggested Settings on page 11.
DARKER
Step 3: LOWER LEVER Press the lever down until it locks into
place. The toaster cycle will begin once the lever is engaged.
7
Step 4: CHOOSE MODE
If toasting BREAD, the toaster is ready for operation. Move to step 5.
Press the Bagel button for sliced bagels.
Once pressed, the button will illuminate. When selecting the bagel mode, only the inside heating elements are turned on in each toasting unit. This effectively toasts the cut sides of the bagel without overbrowning the exterior.
Press the Defrost button for frozen breads
or pastries. Once pressed, the button will illuminate. When selecting the defrost mode the toaster begins by thawing the frozen item and then automatically toasting it to the desired level of browning. Quickly inspect frozen toaster pastries or strudels to make sure they are not leaking any filling.
Press the Reheat button if you’ve already
toasted something and want to quickly reheat it for serving. Once pressed, the button will illuminate. You do not need to make a shade selection for this mode, since this is simply a reheating mode and not a browning process.
8
Step 5: REMOVE TOAST
Once the toasting cycle is complete, the lever will release. If needed, pull the Extra-lift lever up slightly to assist in removing your toast, bagel, English muffin or pastry.
Cancelling a Toasting Cycle
If you need to stop the toaster for any reason,
press the Cancel button or disengage the lever.
4 Slot Toaster – Dual Controls
The Calphalon 4 Slot Toaster is equipped with two independently controlled sets of toasting slots and controls. This allows each side
to be set using different settings, described on page 8.

TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL TOASTING
As you become familiar with your toaster, we want to share a few suggestions for toasting common breads and bread products.
Begin by selecting two uniform slices of bread or bread products to toast at the same time. This will generate more even browning.
Make sure slices of bread, bagels, English muffins or pastries fit comfortably in the toasting slots. Do not force them into the baskets. The slots are generously sized to fit thicker items such as cut bagels.
Do not insert broken pieces of bread or bread products into the toaster.
Be sure to slice bagels and English muffins in half before toasting. Place the cut sides facing toward the center of the toaster.
Use caution when toasting pastries or strudels. Quickly inspect the pastries to make sure they do not have any leaking filling that may drip out when warm.
10
Suggested Settings
