Windows Setup

Windows Installation

Connect one of the included USB cables to the USB port on the back of the MiniStation.

Plug the other end of the USB cable into the USB port on your computer.

MiniStation will install automatically.

Windows Setup

Open My Computer and the new drive will be present. By default it will use the first
available drive letter and will be named “Local Disk”. The MiniStation comes pre­formatted so you may begin using it immediately.

The software CD in your MiniStation package includes programs for Windows
computers, including backup software and the SecureLockWare drive encryption
program. See the appropriate manual on the CD for more information on these
programs.

Backup software for Windows PCs is available on your software disk, included with
your MiniStation. See your software CD for documentation on installing and using that
product. Many other commercial backup solutions from third parties also work perfectly
with the MiniStation.

USB Power Adapter Cable

A USB to 5 volt power adapter is included with the MiniStation. If your MiniStation isn’t
getting sufficient power from the USB port it’s plugged into, you can plug this cable into
an additional USB port for extra power.

Macintosh Setup

Macintosh Installation

An icon will appear on the desktop. Double click on it to access the MiniStation hard
drive.

Connect the included USB cable into the MiniStation’s USB port.

Connect the other end of the USB cable to the USB port on your computer.

You may choose to format the drive
with a Macintosh format. This is
recommended if you do not plan
to use the unit with any equipment
other than Macintosh computers.
To format in Mac OS X, Navigate to
your Utilities folder and select the
application Disk Utility.

Select The Buffalo Hard Drive and
click the Erase button.

Follow the wizard to complete the
format process. Click Erase when
done.

NOTE: Formatting the drive will
erase all data on the drive.

Macintosh Setup

The MiniStation comes pre-formatted with Windows FAT32. Your Macintosh will
recognize this format so you may begin using it immediately. This format will allow for
use on both Macintosh and Windows computers.

Mac OS 9

In Mac OS 9, the MiniStation will automatically mount on the desktop.

The MiniStation comes pre-formatted with Windows FAT32. Your Macintosh will
recognize this format so you may begin using it immediately. This format will allow for
use on both Macintosh and Windows computers.

Mac OS 9 will not allow you to reformat the drive to a Macintosh format.
You must use Mac OS X or a third party disk utility to reformat the drive, if reformatting
is necessary.

Apple offers a Backup Utility to OS X users who have purchased a .Mac account. This is
not a Buffalo product, but if you have .Mac, the following directions may be helpful:

By default, the user idisk is selected as the
backup destination. To change this to the
MiniStation, click the Set button and then the
Create button.

Connect the MiniStation hard drive to your
Mac and make sure it is mounted on the
desktop.

From your Applications folder, open the
application Backup.

Select the Buffalo portable hard drive and name the
backup file. Click Create.

Select the files you would like to have backed up by
placing a check mark in the corresponding box. You
may add additional files and folders by clicking the
“+” button on the bottom left and select which files
and folders you would like to backup. Once done
click the Backup Now button.

Your files will now be backed up.

You can also create a backup schedule by clicking
the calendar icon on the bottom left (circled).
Select whether you want daily or weekly backups,
time of day, and day of week.

Buffalo Technology warrants in good operating condition for the warranty period.

This warranty does not include non-Buffalo Technology installed components. If the

its discretion, repair or replace the product at no charge, provided the product has
not been subjected to misuse, abuse or non-Buffalo Technology authorized alterations,

of returned product to Buffalo Technology is the responsibility of the purchaser. All

Wenn Sie Ihren Arbeitsplatz öffnen, finden Sie das neu installierte Laufwerk.
Standardmäßig erhält es den ersten noch verfügbaren Buchstaben sowie den Namen
„Lokales Laufwerk“. Da die MiniStation vorformatiert ausgeliefert wird, ist sie sofort
einsatzbereit.

Die mitgelieferte Software-CD enthält Programme für Windows-Computer, darunter
Backup-Software und das Festplattenverschlüsselungsprogramm Secure Lock Ware.
Weitere Informationen zu den Programmen finden Sie auf der CD.

Auf dem im Lieferumfang der MiniStation enthaltenen Software-Datenträger finden
Sie Backup-Software für Windows-PCs. Informationen zur Installation und Verwendung
des Produkts sind ebenfalls auf der Software-CD enthalten. Auch zahlreiche andere im

USB-Power-Adapter-Kabel

Im Lieferumfang der MiniStation ist ein USB auf 5 Volt Power-Adapter enthalten. Wenn
die MiniStation nicht genügend Strom über den USB-Port, an dem sie angeschlossen ist,
erhält, können Sie dieses Kabel zur zusätzlichen Stromzufuhr an einem weiteren USB­Port anschließen.

Bei Bedarf können Sie die Festplatte in
einem Macintosh-Format formatieren.
Dies wird empfohlen, wenn Sie
planen, das Gerät ausschließlich mit
Macintosh-Computern einzusetzen.
Um die Formatierung in Mac
OS X vorzunehmen, müssen Sie
zunächst zum Ordner Utilities
(Dienstprogramme) navigieren und die
Anwendung Disk Utility (Festplatten­Dienstprogramm) auswählen.

Wählen Sie die Buffalo-Festplatte aus
und klicken Sie auf Erase (Löschen).

Führen Sie die Schritte des Assistenten
durch, um die Formatierung
abzuschließen. Klicken Sie auf Erase
(Löschen), wenn Sie fertig sind.
HINWEIS: Durch das Formatieren
der Festplatte werden alle darauf
gespeicherten Daten gelöscht.

Macintosh-Setup

Die MiniStation ist mit Windows FAT32 vorformatiert. Ihr Macintosh erkennt dieses

Mac OS 9

In Mac OS 9 wird die MiniStation automatisch auf dem Schreibtisch aktiviert.

Die MiniStation ist mit Windows FAT32 vorformatiert. Ihr Macintosh erkennt dieses
Format, daher können Sie sofort mit der Verwendung beginnen. Das Format ist sowohl
mit Macintosh- als auch mit Windows-Computern kompatibel.

Bei Verwendung von Mac OS 9 können Sie die Festplatte nicht im Macintosh-Format neu
formatieren.
Sollte eine Neuformatierung erforderlich werden, müssen Sie die Festplatte mit Mac OS
X oder dem Festplatten-Dienstprogramm eines Drittanbieters neu formatieren.

Apple stellt OS X-Benutzern, die ein .Mac-Account erworben haben, ein Backup­Dienstprogramm zur Verfügung. Dabei handelt es sich nicht um ein Buffalo-Produkt, aber
falls Sie über ein derartiges .Mac-Account verfügen, sind unter Umständen folgende
Anweisungen hilfreich:

Standardmäßig ist der Benutzer idisk als
Backup-Ziel angegeben. Wenn Sie die
MiniStation als Backup-Ziel einstellen
möchten, klicken Sie auf Set (Festlegen) und
dann auf Create (Erstellen).

Schließen Sie die MiniStation-Festplatte an
Ihren Mac an und überprüfen Sie, ob sie auf
dem Schreibtisch aktiviert ist.

Öffnen Sie dann im Ordner Applications
(Anwendungen) die Anwendung Backup.

Wählen Sie das Buffalo Portable Hard Drive aus und
benennen Sie die Backup-Datei. Klicken Sie auf Create
(Erstellen).

Markieren Sie die Kästchen neben den Dateien,
für die Sicherungskopien erstellt werden sollen,
mit einem Häkchen. Klicken Sie unten links auf die
Schaltfläche „+“, um weitere Dateien und Ordner
hinzuzufügen, und geben Sie an, für welche Dateien
und Ordner Sicherungskopien erstellt werden sollen.
Klicken Sie danach auf Backup Now (Jetzt sichern).

Ihre Dateien werden nun gesichert.

Durch Klicken auf das Kalendersymbol unten links
(eingekreist) können Sie auch einen Backup-Zeitplan
festlegen. Geben Sie an, ob die Sicherungskopien
täglich oder wöchentlich angelegt werden sollen
sowie zu welcher Tageszeit und an welchem
Wochentag.

Installation sous Windows

Ouvrez le Poste de travail ; le nouveau lecteur y est recensé. Par défaut, il utilise
la première lettre de lecteur disponible et porte le nom « Disque local ». L'unité
MiniStation étant préformatée, vous pouvez commencer à l'utiliser immédiatement.

Le CD-ROM du logiciel fourni avec l'unité MiniStation comprend des programmes pour
les ordinateurs Windows, notamment un logiciel de sauvegarde et le programme de
chiffrement de disque SecureLockWare. Pour plus d'informations sur ces programmes,
consultez le manuel d'utilisation sur le CD-ROM fourni.

Sélectionnez les fichiers que vous souhaitez
sauvegarder en cochant les cases correspondantes.
Vous pouvez ajouter des fichiers et des dossiers
en cliquant sur le bouton « + » en bas à gauche,
et sélectionner les fichiers et dossiers que vous
souhaitez sauvegarder. Cliquez sur le bouton Backup
Now (Sauvegarder maintenant).

Vos fichiers sont maintenant sauvegardés.

Vous pouvez également programmer une sauvegarde
régulière en cliquant sur l'icône de calendrier en
bas à gauche (entourée). Indiquez si vous souhaitez
effectuer des sauvegardes quotidiennes ou
hebdomadaires, ainsi que l'heure et le jour de ces
sauvegardes.

Nel CD del software presente nella confezione della MiniStation sono inclusi i

Nel CD del software incluso con la MiniStation è disponibile il software di backup per

Cavo adattatore alimentazione USB

La MiniStation è dotata di un adattatore da USB a 5 volt. Se la MiniStation non riceve

Apple offre un'utilità di backup agli utenti OS X che hanno acquistato un account .Mac.

a sinistra e selezionando i file e le cartelle di cui
eseguire il backup. Al termine, fare clic sul pulsante
Backup Now (Esegui backup ora).

A questo punto viene eseguito il backup dei file.

È anche possibile creare una pianificazione di backup
facendo clic sull'icona del calendario in basso a

A Apple oferece um Utilitário de Backup para os utilizadores do OS X que tenham
adquirido uma conta .Mac. Não se trata de um produto da Buffalo, mas se tiver .Mac, as
seguintes indicações poderão ser úteis:

Por predefinição, o idisk do utilizador é
seleccionado como o destino de backup. Para
mudar isto para a MiniStation, clique no botão
Set e, em seguida, clique no botão Create.

Ligue o disco rígido MiniStation ao seu Mac
para se certificar de que está montado no
ambiente de trabalho.

A partir da sua pasta Applications
(Aplicações), abra a aplicação Backup.

dê um nome ao ficheiro de backup. Clique em Create.

Seleccione os ficheiros dos quais queira fazer backup
colocando uma marca na caixa correspondente.
Pode adicionar ficheiros e pastas clicando no botão
“+” no canto inferior esquerdo e seleccione quais os
ficheiros e pastas que quer fazer backup. Logo que
esteja terminado clique no botão Backup Now.

Será agora feito um backup dos seus ficheiros.

Pode também criar um calendário de backup

esquerdo (com círculo). Seleccione se quer fazer
backups diariamente ou semanalmente, a hora do dia

Installatie onder Windows

Open Deze computer en u zult het nieuwe station zien. Standaard zal hiervoor de eerst
beschikbare stationsletter worden gebruikt. Het station krijgt als naam 'Lokale schijf'. De
MiniStation is voorgeformatteerd, dus u kunt hem direct gaan gebruiken.

De cd-rom met software in het MiniStation-pakket bevat programma’s voor Windows­computers, zoals back-upsoftware en SecureLockWare, een programma waarmee
schijven kunnen worden gecodeerd. Zie de bijbehorende handleiding op de cd-rom voor
meer informatie over deze programma’s.

De cd-rom met software bij uw MiniStation bevat back-upprogrammatuur voor
Windows-pc’s. Documentatie over de installatie en het gebruik van dat product is te
vinden op de cd-rom. Veel andere commercieel verkrijgbare back-upoplossingen van
andere fabrikanten zijn ook uitstekend geschikt voor de MiniStation.

USB-voedingsadapter

De MiniStation wordt geleverd met een voedingsadapter (USB naar 5 V). Als uw
MiniStation onvoldoende voeding krijgt via de USB-poort waarop hij is aangesloten, kunt
u deze kabel op een extra USB-poort aansluiten voor extra voeding.

U kunt ervoor kiezen de schijf
te formatteren om deze een

Selecteer de Buffalo schijf en klik op

Volg de instructies van de wizard om
het formatteringsproces te voltooien.
Klik op Wis als u klaar bent.

LET OP: Als u de schijf formatteert,
worden alle gegevens op de schijf
gewist. Dit proces is onomkeerbaar.

Apple biedt gebruikers van Mac OS X die een .Mac-account hebben een back­upprogramma. Dit is geen Buffalo product, maar als u een .Mac-account hebt, kunnen de
volgende richtlijnen nuttig zijn:

Als standaard wordt de iDisk van de gebruiker
geselecteerd als back-upbestemming. Om dit
te veranderen in de MiniStation, klikt u op
de knop Set (Stel in) en vervolgens op Create
(Maak aan).

Sluit de MiniStation aan op uw Mac en wacht
tot het symbool op het bureaublad verschijnt.

Ga naar de map Programma’s en open het
programma Backup (Engelstalig).

Selecteer de Buffalo schijf en geef het back-upbestand
een naam. Klik op Create (Maak aan).

Selecteer de bestanden waarvan u een back-up wilt
maken door een vinkje in het corresponderende
vakje te zetten. U kunt aanvullende bestanden
en mappen toevoegen door op de knop met het
plusteken (+) linksonder te klikken en aan te geven
van welke bestanden en mappen u een back-up wilt
maken. Zodra u klaar bent, klikt u op de knop Back
Up Now (Maak nu een back-up).

Er wordt nu een back-up van uw bestanden
gemaakt.

U kunt ook een back-upschema maken door te
klikken op het kalendersymbool linksonder in het
venster (omcirkeld). Selecteer of u dagelijkse of
wekelijkse back-ups wilt en kies de dag en de tijd
waarop de back-up moet worden gemaakt.
