This product is intended for connection to analogue public switched telephone networks and private switchboards in the United Kingdom.
You must subscribe to BT Answer 1571 or Call Minder and install 2 x AAA batteries (not included) before the Message Waiting indication feature will work. A quarterly fee is payable for Call Minder.

At a glance
Handset
Hearing aid wearers may benefit from switching their hearing aid to the middle T position and holding the earpiece up to the aid, not their ear.
Handset hook
When the phone has been wall-mounted it keeps the handset in place.

Message / Indicator light
This will flash when the phone rings. It will also flash to indicate you have voice messages waiting to be played.
Ringing volume, tone and amplification setting
The switches on the phone base give you the option to change the ringing volume, ringing tone and incoming or outgoing amplification and Recall mode.
Quickdial button
Enables you to dial up to 10 phone numbers stored in the memory.
Redial button
Redials the last number dialled.
1471 button
Allows you to check the phone number of
the last person who called you. Automatically
dials 1471 when pressed.
Amplify button
This button together with the switch on
the base of the product allows you to
amplify your voice or the caller’s voice.
Use the +/– buttons to increase/ decrease
the level of amplification on your call.
Store button
Allows you to store phone numbers in
the Quickdial and One-touch memories.
R (recall) button
Recall button for use with some
BT Select Services and switchboards.
Handset park
When the BIG Button + is wall-mounted, you can hook the handset on this if you need to temporarily move
away from the phone.
Memory label
For making a note of
names and numbers
stored in the Quickdial
memories.
One-Touch memory buttons
Enables you to quickly dial your most regularly used numbers or a stored number for emergencies. The middle button is pre-programmed with 1571. This can be overwritten if required.
S (secrecy) button
Press to speak to someone in the same room without the person on the other end of the line hearing your conversation.
How to STORE numbers
1. Press the STORE key
2. Press either one of the 3 direct dial memory keys or the Quickdial followed by a dialling key
3. Dial the number to be stored
4. Finally press the STORE key again

Safety information
General
Simply clean your BIG Button + with a damp (not wet) cloth, or an antistatic wipe.
Never use household polish as this may damage the product.
Never use a dry cloth as this may cause static shock.
Do not open the BIG Button +. This could expose you to high voltages or other risks.
Never dispose of batteries in a fire. There is a serious risk of explosion and/or the release of highly toxic chemicals.
Environmental
Do not expose to direct sunlight.
We recommend that you do not place the product on antique/veneered wood to avoid damage.
Do not stand your product on carpets or other surfaces which generate fibres, or place it in locations preventing free flow of air over its surfaces.

Do not submerge any part of your product in water and do not use it in damp or humid conditions, such as in bathrooms.
Do not expose your product to fire, explosive or other hazardous conditions.
The emergency services can be contacted in the UK by dialling 999. You may also dial 112, which is valid in any country that is a member of the European Community.
You may not be able to make an emergency call in certain situations:
• If the telephone line is disconnected.
• If there is a fault on the line from your phone or on the network.
If your BIG Button + is connected to a PBX (switchboard), you may have to dial an access number before 999 to contact the emergency services.

The following points should be considered:
Situate your product close enough to the telephone socket so that the cable will reach.
Do not stand it on carpets or other similar surfaces that generate fibres as this may reduce the ringing sound and clog inside mechanisms.
Your BIG Button + can be positioned in three alternative ways:
Flat on a table surface.
Raised position on a table surface (using plinth).
Wall-mounted. See ‘Wall-mounting’ on page 31.
Warning
Your BIG Button + is only designed to be operated in a normal domestic or office environment. It should not be used in bathrooms or near water.

Please note you will require 2 x AAA batteries to benefit from the BT Answer 1571/Call Minder message waiting indication. These are not included.
Lift the battery cover and insert the batteries as shown.
1 Insert the batteries
Note
Batteries are only required if you want to use the 1571 feature.
You will still be able to make and receive calls via the handset without batteries fitted. However, the message waiting indicator will not function.

2 Plug your BIG Button + into the
telephone socket
If you do not have a modern style socket, call BT on Freefone 0800 800 150 and ask for a BT engineer to come and fit the correct socket.
This may be a chargeable service.
Battery low indicator
The batteries power the Message Waiting Indicator lamp. The normal flash rate when messages are waiting is every 2 seconds. When the batteries are running low and a message is waiting, the flash rate slows to once every 6 seconds.
