Carry the SmartStep™ Pedometer anywhere!
Put it in your pocket or purse, or hang it from the included lanyard. It will track steps and miles traveled, plus calories and fat grams burned. It even resets itself at midnight, plus tracks your progress fo r seven days.
BATTERY PRECAUTIONS
Dispose of the old battery properly. Do not dispose of the old battery in a fire.
Do not leave the battery where a child or pet could play with or swallow it. If the battery is swallowed, contact a physician immediately.
The battery may explode if mistreated. Do not attempt to recharge or disassemble the battery.
Use only a fresh battery of the required size and type.

LOCATION Of CONTROLS OPERATION
Your SmartStep™ Pedometer comes with a battery already installed.
Remove the plast ic strip from the BATTERY COMPARTMENT by pulling the tab and sliding it out from between the batt ery contacts.
fIRST TI mE S ET-UP
1. Press and hol d the SET button until the LCD SCR EEN shows all zero s and the hour number blinks.
2. Set the hour by using the MEMORY/ and MODE/ buttons to scrol l through the numbers. Holding down either the MEMORY/ or MODE/ button will scroll thro ugh the numbers rapidly. Press the SET key to select the hour.
3. The minute n umber will blink on the LCD screen.
4. Set the minutes by using the MEMORY/ and MODE/ buttons to scrol l through the numbers. Holding down the MEMORY/ or MODE/ button will scro ll through the numbers rapidly. Press the SET key to select your minutes.
Note: The SmartStep
Pedomete r uses 24 hour (militar y time) to allow fo r daily reset.
5. The weight n umber will blink on the LCD screen.
6. Set your weight by using the MEMORY/ and MODE/ buttons to scrol l through the numbers. Holding down the MEMORY/ or MODE/ button will scro ll through the numbers rapidly. Press the SET key to select your weight.
7. The stride nu mber will blink
on the LCD screen.
SETTING STEP/STRIDE LENGTH
You must set your step/stride length in the pedometer for it to accurately calculate distance traveled.
1. Take five steps or str ides and measure the dist ance covered in inches using a tape measure. Divide that numb er by five. Thi s is your average ste p/stride length.
2. Set your stride length in inches by using the MEMORY/ and MODE/ buttons to scroll through the numb ers. Holding down the ME MORY/ or MODE/ buttons wil l scroll through the numb ers rapidly.

ONE (1) YEAR LImITEd WARRANTY
Brookstone® warrants this produc t against defects in materials and/or workmanship under normal use for a period of ON E (1) YEAR from the date of purchase by the original purchaser (“Warranty Period”). If a defect arises and a valid claim is received within the Warranty Period, at its option, Brookstone will either
1) repair the de fect at no charge, using new or refurbishe d replacement parts, or
2) replace the product with a new product that is at least functionally equivalent to the original product, or 3) provide a store credit in the amount of the purchase price of the original product. A replacement product or part, including a user-installable part installed in accordance with instructions provided by Brookstone, assumes the remaining warranty of the original product. When a product or part is exchanged, any replacement item becomes your property and the replaced item becomes Brookstone’s property. When a store credit is given, the original product must be returned to Brookstone and becomes Brookstone’s property.
Obtaining Service:
To obtain warranty service, call Brookstone Limite d Warranty Service at 1-800-292-9819. Please be prepared to describe the product that needs service and the nature of the problem. A purchase receipt is required. All repairs and replacements must be authorized in advance. Service options, parts availability and response times will vary. You are responsible for delivery and the cost of delivery of the product or any parts to the authorized service center for replacement, per our instructions.
Limits and Excl usions:
C overage und er this Limited Warranty is limited to the United States of America, including the District of Columbia and the U.S. Territories of Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. This Limited Warranty applies only to products manufactured for Brookstone that can be identified by the “Brookstone” trademark, trade name, or logo affixed to them or their packaging. The Limited Warranty does not apply to any non­Brookstone products. Manufacturers or suppliers
other than Brookstone may provide their own warranties to the purchaser, but B rookstone, in so far as permitted by law, provides these products “as is.” This warranty does not apply to: a) damage caused by failure to follow instructions relating to product’s use or the installation of components; b) damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse, fire, floods, earthquake or other external causes; c) damage caused by service performed by anyone who is not a representative of Brookstone; d) accessories used in conjunction with a covered product; e) a product or part that has been modified to alter functionality or capability; f) items intended to be periodically replaced by the purchaser during the normal life of the product including, without limitation, batteries or light bulbs; g) any product sold “as is” including , witho ut limi tation, floor demonstration models and refurbished items ; or h) a product that is used commercially or for a commercial purpose.

ACCUMU LATED INFOR MATION
To scroll thro ugh the total of accumulat ed info rmation, press and hold the MODE/ butt on while in Step Mode u ntil you see the indicator arrow below TOTAL on the LC D SCREE N.
The SmartStep
Pedometer w ill automatically scroll through the total steps , miles and calorie s you have tracked.
Press the MODE/
button again to discontinue s crolling the tota ls. The SmartSt ep™ Pedometer will go back to its counting mode.

Note: The SmartStep
Pedomete r keeps tr ack of your pr ogress for up to 7 d ays at a tim e. The maximum step cou nt is 999,9 99 steps. If this distance is reached be fore 7 days, or on the 8th day of infor mation tracking, the unit will drop the first day tracked and begin a new day, so you will always be a ble to see your last 7 days of tracked information.

Press the RESET but ton on the back of the unit with a thin, blunt ob ject.
The hour number will b link on the LCD screen.
Reset th e time, your weight and your str ide length by following the inst ructions previou sly stated in this pamphlet.

LOCkINg THE UNIT
The SmartStep™ Pedometer allows you to lock the buttons so they will not be accidentally pushed while the unit is in your purse or pocket. You cannot use the buttons unti l you unlock it.
1. To lock the SmartStep
Pedometer
buttons, press b oth the MEMORY/
and MODE/ buttons simultaneously until you see the appear on the LCD SCREEN.
2. To unlock the SmartStep
Pedometer so you ca n use the buttons, press b oth the MEMORY/
and MODE/ buttons simultaneously until you see the disappear from t he LCD SCR EEN.

BATTERY REPLACEm ENT
When the battery ic on on the LCD SCRE EN blinks, it is time to replace the battery.
1. Open the BATTERY COMPARTMEN T with a c oin by lining up the arrow on the BATTERY COMPARTMENT COVER with OPEN.
2. Remove the spent battery and dispose of prope rly. Slide a new CR2032 battery into the BATTERY COMPARTMEN T according to the polarity indicator.
3. Place the battery door back on the BATTERY COMPARTME NT and twist with a coin to line up the arrow with C LOSE to secure.
NOTE: Your sett ings an d record ed informati on will not b e saved while you are replacing the battery.
CARE ANd mAINTENANCE
Clean with a soft, dry cloth.
