IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
When using an electrical appliance, basic precautions should always be followed.
Read all instructions before using this massage chair.
DANGER – To reduce the risk of electric shock:
1. Always unplug this massage chair from the electrical outlet immediately after using and before cleaning.
2. If liquid is accidentally spilled onto the chair, remove the power plug from the electrical outlet immediately. Do not use wet hands to connect or disconnect the power plug from the electrical outlet.
3. Do not operate during a lightning storm.
4. Although operation will be stopped automatically by the Auto-Timer function, always remember to turn off the main power switch after use.
5. Do not place the power cord under the chair or under any other heavy objects.
6. Do not wind the power cord around the chair as this may damage the cord and result in a fire or electric shock.
7. Do not operate the chair with a damaged cord or with an extension cord.
8. Do not use the chair if the electrical outlet is loose.
9. Check that the Alternating Current (AC) voltage corresponds with the specification indicated for the chair.
WARNING – To reduce the risk of burns, fire, electric shock or injury to
persons:
1. This massage chair should never be left unattended when plugged in. Unplug from outlet when not in use, and before putting on or taking off parts.
2. Do not operate under blanket or pillow. Excessive heating can occur and cause fire, electric shock or injury to persons.
3. Close supervision is necessary when this chair is used by, on or near children, invalids or disabled persons. Keep children away from extended foot support.
4. Use this massage chair only for its intended use as described in this manual. Do not use attachments not recommended by Brookstone.
5. Never operate this massage chair if it has a damaged cord or plug, if it is not working properly, if it has been dropped or damaged, or dropped into water. Contact Brookstone Customer Service at 866-336-3199.
6. Do not move or carry this massage chair by the power cord or use cord as a handle.
7. Keep the cord away from heated surfaces.
8. Never operate the massage chair with the air openings blocked. Keep the air openings free of lint, hair and the like.
9. Never drop or insert any object into any opening.
10. Do not use outdoors.
11. Do not operate where aerosol (spray) products are being used or where oxygen is being administered.
12. To disconnect, turn all controls to the OFF position, then remove the plug from the outlet.
13. Use heated surfaces carefully. May cause serious burns. Do not use over insensitive skin areas or in the presence of poor circulation. The unattended use of heat by children or disabled persons may be dangerous.
14. Never use pins or other metallic fasteners with this chair.
15. Never remove the cover from this chair. Do not use the chair when the upholstery is ripped, torn, or removed. This may cause injury or malfunction. Carefully examine the covering before each use. Call for service if the covering shows any sign of deterioration, such as blistering, peeling, cracking, or ripping.
16. Keep dry - do not wet. Do not operate in a wet or moist condition. Do not use the chair when your body is wet. Do not operate this chair with wet hands.
17. Connect this chair to a properly grounded outlet only. See Grounding Instructions on page 5.
18. Do not use massager in close proximity to loose clothing or jewelry.
19. Keep long hair away from massage chair while in use.
20. Do not insert your hand or foot along the paths of the massage rollers during use as this may cause injury.
21. This massage chair is not intended for use by children or persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of this chair by a person responsible for their safety.

22. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with this massage chair.
23. Any individual who may be pregnant, or recently gave birth, has a heart condition, or a pacemaker, suffers from diabetes or other sensory impairment, phlebitis and/or thrombosis, joint dysfunction, inflammation or injuries, weak bones, osteoporosis, a high fever, an abnormal or curved spine, is at an increased risk of developing blood clots, has pins/screws/artificial joints or other medical devices implanted in his/her body, is being treated for a medical condition or physical injury or is under a doctor’s care should consult with a medical professional before using this massage chair.
24. This massage chair is not intended for self-treatment of conditions that should be managed by a qualified healthcare provider.
25. Consult your physician before using this massage chair.
26. This massage chair is designed as a non-professional massager to help soothe tired and aching muscles. It is not intended to be a substitute for medical attention. If your ailments and symptoms persist or worsen after use, contact your physician immediately.
27. Do not use this chair if you are not feeling well.
28. Stop operation immediately if you experience any discomfort.
29. Do not fall asleep during the massage session.
30. Do not operate after taking pain killers, sedatives or alcohol.
31. Do not use this chair in combination with other therapeutic equipment or electric blanket, etc., as this may result in ineffectiveness or injury.
32. Do not stand on or in this massage chair. Use only while seated.
33. Do not disassemble any part of the chair. Touching the internal components may result in malfunction or electric shock.
34. The chair must only be professionally serviced or repaired. Do not attempt to disassemble or repair the chair yourself.
35. Always position the massage chair on a flat, level surface.
36. Do not operate for more than 20 continuous minutes. Turn off the chair and allow it to rest (cool) for 30 minutes before re-using. This will prolong the life of the chair.
37. Do not perform continuous massage on the same spot of your body for more than 5 minutes at a time as this may result in excessive stimulation and may have adverse effects.
38. Never use the chair on open skin eruptions, swollen or inflamed areas.
39. Do not apply massage rollers directly on the head, elbow or knee joints, torso or abdomen.
40. If the power goes off during use, be sure to turn the power switch to the OFF position and pull the power plug out from the socket to prevent damage from occurring when the power is restored.
GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS
This product must be grounded. If it should malfunction or break down, grounding provides a path of least resistance for the electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. This product is equipped with a cord or an equipment-grounding conductor and a grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
DANGER – Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can
result in a risk of electric shock. Check with a qualified electrician or service technician if you are in doubt as to whether the product is properly grounded. Do not modify the plug provided with the product – if it will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified technician.
This product is for use on a nominal 120V circuit and has a grounding plug that looks like the plug illustrated to the right. Make sure the product is connected to an outlet having the same configuration as the plug. No adapter should be used with this product.

Caution: Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment.
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B Digital Device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation.
If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:
• Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
• Increase the distance between the equipment and receiver.
• Connect the equipment to an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected.
• Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.

SETTING UP THE MASSAGE CHAIR
Unpacking and positioning the massage chair
1. Remove the top portion of the carton.
2. Lift the chair out of the bottom portion of the carton and place in desired location.
• To avoid injury and minimize the chance of dropping the chair, it is recom­mended that two people lift the chair.
• When positioning the chair, allow sufficient space around the chair for reclining and for raising the leg rest.
• Place on a dry, level surface.
• To avoid damage to the floor and to reduce noise, put a rug or other floor protection under the massage chair.
• To avoid signal interference, place the chair a minimum of four feet away from audio/visual equipment, such as televisions and radios.
• Do not place in direct sunlight or in places of high temperature.
Warning:
Do not put the power cord under the chair.
Moving the massage chair
• As illustrated, push the backrest down­wards and tilt chair on to its wheels at a 45o angle.
• Slowly push and maneuver the massage chair to desired location. Lower massage chair slowly and smoothly until it is fully flat on the ground.
• Do not move the massage chair when someone is sitting in it. This will cause the chair to tip over, resulting in accident and injuries.
• Moving the massage chair may cause damage to floors. Floor protection, such as rugs or carpet, is recommended.
• Do not drop or suddenly let go of the chair when moving, as it may damage the chair.
• To avoid injury and minimize the chance of dropping the chair, it is recom­mended that two people move the chair.
• Do not move by pulling on the cord.

SELECTING MASSAGE OPTIONS
Press AUTO to select one of four automatic programs. See Page 12 for a description of automatic programs.
Manual Massage Controls:
• Press SHIATSU, TAPPING or ROLLING to begin a specific massage type. See Page 12 for a description of manual massage options.
• Press TARGET to activate the spot massage feature. A spot massage targets a single area, focusing your Shiatsu or Tapping massage on the current roller location. Press TARGET again to turn off the spot massage feature.
• Press ADJUST to change the roller width during a Rolling massage. Press repeatedly to select the desired width for the rolling action.
Press ZONE to select the area of your body to be massaged - FULL body, UPPER body, or LOWER body.
Press and hold RECLINE or CHAIR UP to select the chair position, or press ROCK for a gentle rocking motion.
Press HEAT to turn on or turn off the Heat feature in your lumbar (lower back) area. Can be used in both Automatic and Manual massages.
Press the ON/OFF switch once to enter stand-by mode. When remote is plugged in, the power button will have a steady blink signifying stand-by mode. After massage begins, press again to stop the current massage function and return to stand-by mode.
OPERATING THE MASSAGE CHAIR
Starting a Massage Session
Before operating the massage chair, review the warnings beginning on Page 2.
1. Ensure that the main power switch, located on the back of the chair, is in the Off ( O ) position.
2. Plug the massage chair into an appropriate outlet. See Page 5 for information on appropriately grounded outlets.
3. Click the main power switch, located on the back of the chair, to the On ( | ) position.
4. Press the On/Off button on the controller. A beep will sound, and the chair will enter stand-by mode, with the leg rest slightly elevated.
5. Press AUTO to select an automatic program (described on Page 12) or press SHIATSU, TAPPING, or ROLLING to manually select a massage style (described on Page 12).
6. Optionally, select a ZONE to target your FULL body (shoulders to thighs), UPPER body (shoulders and back) or LOWER body (seat and thighs).
7. Optionally, select a chair position. Press and hold the RECLINE button to move into a reclined position. Press and hold the CHAIR UP button to move into an upright position. Press ROCK for a gentle rocking motion, from recline to upright, which repeats10 times.
8. Optionally, reposition the headrest, as described on Page 13.
9. During a Manual SHIATSU or TAPPING massage, optionally press TARGET for a spot massage.
10. Press HEAT to turn the heat feature on or off during Automatic or Manual massage.
Each massage session should not exceed 20 minutes. Targeted massage should not exceed 5 minutes on any one area.
In an emergency or if there is any malfunction, press the ON/ OFF switch on the controller to stop the massage, then click the main power switch on the back of the chair to the OFF position.

AUTOMATIC PROGRAMS
The Rock & Recline Massage Chair includes four automatic programs. Each program is designed to produce a specific effect:
• Quick - A full body massage, from neck to thighs, that demonstrates all massage techniques and chair positions, including Rock.
• Relax - A gentle program that features a rolling, kneading motion in the Recline chair position.
• Stress Relief - A sequence of Shiatsu, Tapping and Rolling techniques that help relieve stress in the Recline chair position.
• Energize - The most intensive program, designed to get you ready to start your day. Features Shiatsu and Tapping massage. Progresses from Recline to Upright chair position.
To select an automatic program, press AUTO on the controller. Select your preferred program by pressing AUTO again to cycle through the four programs.
Relax, Stress Relief, and Energize programs run for approximately 15 minutes; the Quick program runs for approximately 6 minutes. When the program completes, the chair moves to the Chair Up position, the massage nodes return to their default positions, and the controller turns off.
To end a program early, press the On/Off button on the controller.
MANUAL OPTIONS
The Rock & Recline Massage Chair includes three massage styles that allow you to create a unique massage experience:
• Shiatsu - A combination of deep-kneading and slow, rhythmic motions targeting acupressure points.
• Tapping - A brisk, rhythmic tapping designed to invigorate.
• Rolling - A gentle rolling technique designed for soothing relaxation.
To select a massage style, press SHIATSU, TAPPING or ROLLING on the controller.
• For Shiatsu and Tapping massages, you can press TARGET to activate the spot massage feature. A spot massage targets a single area, focus­ing your Shiatsu or Tapping massage on the current roller location. Press TARGET again and the rollers will resume working on the selected zone. SHIATSU and TAPPING can be selected at the same time for a further customized massage.
• For Rolling massages, you can press ADJUST to change the roller width.
You can further customize your massage by pressing ZONE to select the massage area (Full, Upper, or Lower body), pressing one of the Chair position options, and by adding heat to your lumbar region.
To stop a manual massage, press the On/Off button on the controller, or select another manual massage or an Automatic Program.
POSITIONING THE HEADREST
To allow the massage nodes to more firmly massage the muscles in your upper back and neck, you can reposition the headrest.
To move the headrest:
1. Gently pull up and back on the rear headrest flap, as illustrated in Figure 1, to unfasten the hook-and-loop fastener and slide the headrest to the back of the chair.
2. To return the headrest to the front of the chair, gently pull on the front headrest flap, as illustrated in Figure 2.
ENDING A MASSAGE SESSION
To avoid overheating, the massage chair will automatically shut off if it begins to overheat. Allow the chair to cool for a minimum of 30 minutes before starting another massage session.
1. Automatic programs end when their cycle completes (6 minutes for Quick, 15 minutes for Relax, Stress Relief and Energize). Manual programs will automatically shut off after 15 minutes. To end a manual massage early, press the On/Off button on the controller to disable all functions before putting the controller into the controller pocket. The chair will return to the upright position and the massage nodes will return to their default position.
2. Click the main power switch, located on the back of the chair, to the Off ( O ) position.
3. Pull the power plug out of the electrical outlet.

PRODUCT CARE AND STORAGE
Storing the Massage Chair
• Disconnect the massage chair from the power source after use.
• Keep the massage chair away from direct sunlight, high temperature or high humidity.
• Do not put heavy objects on the massage chair.
• If the outer cover is torn or the mechanism is damaged, stop using the chair and contact Brookstone.
• Do not store the massage chair under direct sunlight or in places of high temperature. This may cause the upholstery to fade.
Cleaning the Massage Chair
Never use scouring pads, abrasive cleaning agents or aggressive liquids such as petroleum or acetone to clean the chair.
Do not immerse the chair in water. To clean the massage chair:
• Remove the main plug from the wall socket.
• Clean the controller and cords with a dry cloth. Do not use a moist cloth or a cleaning agent.
Any additional servicing should be performed by an authorized service representative. This chair has no user serviceable parts inside.
Caution
Do not use abrasive cleaning agents like benzene or thinner to clean the massage chair. This may cause the upholstery to fade.

TROUBLESHOOTING
If you encounter problems while operating the Brookstone Rock & Recline Massage Chair, try the suggestions below. If the massage chair still is not operating properly, click the main power switch on the back of the chair to the OFF position and remove the power plug from the electrical outlet. Contact Brookstone Customer Service at 866-336-3199 for servicing.
Do not dismantle or attempt to repair the Brookstone Rock & Recline Massage Chair yourself. Doing so will void the warranty and Brookstone will not bear any responsibility for any subsequent consequences.
Problem Possible cause/action
• The massage chair is connected to the power source but it is not functioning
• Check that the main power switch on the back of the chair is in the ON position.
• Check that the power plug is insert­ed properly and the power outlet is functioning properly.
• Press the Power button on the remote.
• Check the fuse next to the main switch in the back of the chair.
• The remote controller is respond­ing, but the massage chair is not functioning
• The massage chair may have auto­matically shut down due to over­heating protection devices. Please turn off the power and allow the chair to cool for 30 to 50 minutes.
• My massage has stopped • Automatic programs last for 15 minutes (6 minutes for the Quick program). Manual programs last for 15 minutes. When the program completes, the chair turns off.
• The massage chair may have auto­matically shut down due to over­heating protection devices. Please turn off the power and allow the chair to cool for 30 to 50 minutes.
• My chair stopped working • If you press ROCK in an Auto pro­gram it will cancel all forward recline movements preprogrammed in that Auto program.

ONE (1) YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY
Brookstone warrants this product against defects in materials and/or workmanship under normal use for a period of ONE (1) YEAR from the date of purchase by the original purchaser (“Warranty Period”). If a defect arises and a valid claim is received within the Warranty Period, at its option, Brookstone will either 1) repair the defect at no charge, using new or refurbished replacement parts, or 2) replace the product with a new product that is at least functionally equivalent to the original product, or 3) provide a store credit in the amount of the purchase price of the original product. A replacement product or part, including a user-installable part installed in accordance with instructions provided by Brookstone, assumes the remaining warranty of the original product. When a product or part is exchanged, any replacement item becomes your property and the replaced item becomes Brookstone’s property. When a store credit is given, the original product must be returned to Brookstone and becomes Brookstone’s property.
Obtaining Service: To obtain warranty service, call Brookstone Limited Warranty Service at 877-435-6332. Please be prepared to describe the product that needs service and the nature of the problem. A purchase receipt is required. All repairs and replacements must be authorized in advance. Service options, parts availability and response times will vary. You are responsible for delivery and the cost of delivery of the product or any parts to the authorized service center for replacement, per our instructions.
Limits and Exclusions: Coverage under this Limited Warranty is limited to the United States of America, including the District of Columbia and the U.S. Territories of Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. This Limited Warranty applies only to products manufactured for Brookstone that can be identified by the “Brookstone” trademark, trade name, or logo affixed to them or their packaging. The Limited Warranty does not apply to any non-Brookstone products. Manufacturers or suppliers other than Brookstone may provide their own warranties to the purchaser, but Brookstone, in so far as permitted by law, provides these products “as is”. This warranty does not apply to: a) damage caused by failure to follow instructions relating to product’s use or the installation of components; b) damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse, fire, floods, earthquake or other external causes; c) damage caused by service performed by anyone who is not a representative of Brookstone; d) accessories used in conjunction with a covered product; e) a product or part that has been modified to alter functionality or capability; f) items intended to be periodically replaced by the purchaser during the normal life of the product including, without limitation, batteries or light bulbs; g) any product sold “as is” including, without limitation, floor demonstration models and refurbished items; or h) a product that is used commercially or for a commercial purpose.
