It’s a Fact…
The DR-670 is the latest professional drum machine from Boss. It incorporates all of the acclaimed sounds from the flagship DR-770. Features include:
255 superb-quality drum and percussion sounds.
Velocity-sensitive pads for expressive rhythm pattern programming.
Large LCD displaying pattern and tempo.
New bass part for programming bass lines using 16 different bass sounds.
200 high-quality preset patterns and 200 user pattern locations.
Direct Pattern Play function (DPP) can assign internal patterns to selected pads for triggering “on the fly.”
Foot control jack for an optional footswitch allows hands-free starting and stopping or the triggering of fills.
Selectable battery or AC operation.
Playing the Demo Song
Use the following procedure to play the demo:
1. Hold SHIFT and press DEMO.
2. Press START to play the demo.
3. Press STOP to stop the demo.
4. Hold SHIFT and press DEMO to exit.
Pattern Playback
The DR-670 contains 200 preset patterns. Use the following procedure to play a pattern:
1. Hold down SHIFT and press PATTERN PLAY.
2. Turn the TEMPO/VALUE dial to select a pattern from 001-200.
3. Hold the orange TAP/TEMPO button and turn the TEMPO/VALUE dial to set the desired BPM (Tempo). The BPM value appears in the lower right corner of the display.
4. Press START.
Note: Use the volume knob on the rear of the DR-670 to adjust its volume.
5. Press STOP when you’re finished.

Soloing a Part
The DR-670 contains a separate bass part that’s incorporated in the preset patterns. Use the following procedure to hear only the bass or only the drum parts:
1. Hold SHIFT and press UTILITY.
2. Turn the TEMPO/VALUE dial to select the part you want to solo.
3. Hold SHIFT and press PATTERN PLAY.
4. Select a pattern.
5. Press START.
Note: To turn off the Mute feature, hold down SHIFT and press UTILITY, release SHIFT, and then select ALL by turning the TEMPO/VALUE dial.
Recording a Pattern
You can record your own pattern into any of 200 user memory locations. Use the following procedure to record a pattern:
1. Hold SHIFT and press PATTERN EDIT.
2. Turn the TEMPO/VALUE dial to select a pattern numbered 201 or higher.
Note: Patterns numbered less than 201 are permanent presets and cannot be re-recorded.
3. Hold SHIFT and press MEASURE and—while still holding SHIFT—turn the TEMPO/VALUE dial to select 1 or 2 measures.
4. Hold SHIFT and press BEAT and—while still holding SHIFT—turn the TEMPO/VALUE dial to select a time signature.
5. Press REC so the red light flashes.
6. Press START. The metronome begins to click at the tempo you’ve selected.
7. Play the pads. Each time the pattern loops, more notes can be recorded without erasing previous notes.
8. Press STOP when you’re finished.
9. Hold SHIFT and press PATTERN PLAY, then press START to hear your pattern.
10. Press STOP when you’re finished listening.

Direct Pattern Play
Direct Pattern Play (DPP) lets you assign patterns to the key pads. Use the following procedure to assign patterns to the pads:
1. Hold SHIFT and press DPP ASSIGN.
2. Press a pad to select it.
3. Turn the TEMPO/VALUE dial to select a pattern for the pad.
4. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 until the desired number of patterns have been assigned to pads.
5. Hold SHIFT and press PATTERN PLAY.
6. Press the orange DPP button, then press one of the selected pads. The pattern assigned to the pad begins to play. As it plays, press another pad. The current pattern finishes playing before advancing to the next pattern.
7. Press STOP when you’re finished, then press the DRUM A/B button to return to Play mode.

Copying a Drum Kit
Any of the preset kits can be copied into a user memory location in the DR-670. The copied drum kit can then be edited and customized. Use the following procedure to copy a drum kit:
1. Hold SHIFT and press DRUM KIT EDIT, then release SHIFT.
2. Hold SHIFT and press DRUM A/B. The number displayed in the lower left corner starts flashing. This is the drum kit number.
3. While continuing to hold SHIFT, turn the TEMPO/DATA dial to select a kit, then release SHIFT.
4. Hold SHIFT and press COPY. Continue to hold SHIFT and turn the TEMPO/VALUE dial to select a location for the copied kit (65-128).
5. When you’ve selected the desired location, press /ENTER. “DONE” is displayed in the lower right area of the screen.
Changing Instruments in a User Kit
Drum instruments in a USER kit can be changed to any sound in the DR-670 instrument list. Use the following procedure to change a drum sound:
1. Hold SHIFT and press DRUM KIT EDIT, and then release SHIFT.
2. Hold SHIFT and press DRUM A/B. The number displayed in the lower left corner of the screen starts flashing. This is the drum kit number.
3. Hold SHIFT and use the TEMPO/DATA dial to select a user kit, between 65 and 128.
Note: Preset kits numbered1 through 64 can be edited, but will not retain changes when a different kit is selected. If a preset drum kit is edited, be sure to copy it into a user location. To copy a kit, see “Copying a Drum Kit” below.
4. Release SHIFT and press one of the pads that contains an instrument you want to change.
5. Turn the TEMPO/VALUE dial to select a new instrument.
Note: Preview the sound of each instrument by pressing the pad and turning the TEMPO/VALUE dial to choose a new sound. Repeat this as often as you wish.
6. Once the desired instruments have been selected, press START to hear the pattern play back using the edited drum kit.
