the COM port of your PC and the RS-232 port of the
E4 system.
• Make sure the E4 system POWER switch is set to ON.

• Launch the Installer software on your PC.
• NOTE: The software installation disc is included with
the E4 system hardware.
• When the connection is initialized, the Installer software
automatically switches the E4 unit from standby to
operating mode.
• Once the connection is established, the Hardware Set
Up window for the E4 system appears on the screen.
4 Set zone Speaker EQ 5 Set Input Gain for music sources
• Select Out Gain for each zone.
• Click the Mute checkbox to silence the zone outputs of
the E4 system.
• Leave one zone active for monitoring purposes, or
connect a single speaker to the ZONE 1 output.

• Select ZONE Set Up for each zone output.
• Select the proper loudspeaker EQ type from the
Speaker EQ drop list.

• When using sources that do not have an output gain
control, increase the input gain using the Gain slider
• Select In Gain for the first music source.
• Select the proper input type from the Type drop list.
• When using sources that have an output gain control,
increase the source output gain until the signal meter is
solid green. Occasional flashing red is normal.

to On. If you hear a dramatic
increase or decrease in volume, adjust your input gain
accordingly.

7 Set zone Output Gain6 Assign sources to zones 8 Adjust the zone EQ
• Select Source Assign for each zone.
• Move selected System Sources to the ZONE Sources
list using the right arrow button.
• In the Zone Sources list, double click on the name of
the source you want as the default source.
• Assign Paging to a zone by adding the PAGE source.
• Make sure all zones are connected to the E4 system.
9 Calibrate Auto Volume
• Check that the Auto Volume sensing microphone has
been installed according to recommendations.
• Select Auto Volume for the zone to be calibrated.
• Set the Auto Volume Tracking level. Use a level of
“less than” by “3” or “6” dB for background systems,
and a level of “equal to” or “more than” by “1” or “3” dB
for foreground systems.
• Select Out Gain for each zone.
• Raise the Gain slider to the desired maximum volume
and move the Maximum Gain Stop to this location.
• Lower the Gain slider to the desired minimum volume
and move the Minimum Gain Stop to this location.
• Set the Gain slider to the desired initial volume.
• Click the Set Up button to start the calibration process.
• Follow the onscreen instructions during the process.
• For detailed information on the Auto Volume function,
see the online help system.
• Select EQ for each zone.
• Make the desired adjustments to the Low, Mid and Hi
equalizer controls.
• Select Dynamic EQ for the zone and set it to On.
10 Flash hardware configuration
Opti-source
• Click the Flash Hardware Configuration button to
save the current system settings as the new default
configuration. The default configuration contains the
settings that are loaded when the E4 system is powered
on.
• Click the Save File button to save the settings in a file
on your PC where they can be stored for future use.

1. STANDBY – The STANDBY button switches the unit between standby and
active. The color of the LED above the switch indicates the status:
Amber = Unit is in standby
Unlit = Unit is active
2. USB – A USB communications port (for future use)
3. SYSTEM STATUS – The SYSTEM STATUS LED indicates the condition of
the unit.
Green = Normal Operation
Red = Fault condition
4. AMP Outputs – These LEDs work in pairs (1 and 2, 3 and 4) and indicate
the operating status of the four amplifier output channels.

The following accessories are shipped with the E4 unit in the FreeSpace E4
System Accessory Kit (PC030105).
• 2-terminal input connectors (6) – For wiring sensing
microphones
• 3-terminal input connectors (2) – For wiring equipment
to the MIC/LINE 3 input
• 4-terminal input connectors (3) – For wiring equipment
to the AUX/OUT CONTROL, MIC/PAGE/LINE 4, and
DIRECT IN/CONTROL inputs
• 2-terminal output connectors (5) – For wiring speaker
cables to the AMP OUT connections
• Rubber feet (4) – For installing the E4 unit on a level surface
5. AUDIO SOURCES – These LEDs indicate the operating status of the four
input sources:
Green = Good signal
Amber = Low signal
Red = Input signal clipping
6. DIRECT INPUT – The color of this LED indicates the condition of the
source connected to the DIRECT IN/CONTROL connector on the rear panel.
Amber = Active bypass
Unlit = Normal operation

1. SENSE MICROPHONES – Input connectors for sensing microphones used
with the Auto Volume feature. Connect Bose® Auto Volume Kit.

7. ZONE 4 LINE OUT – A line-level output that duplicates the program mate-
rial from LINE 4. May be used to feed another amplifier installed for a large
zone. Use the 12V control output to connect to Bose® amplifier sequence
inputs.
8. MUSIC ON HOLD/PBX OUT – Connect to Music on Hold input of PBX.

To change the OUPUT VOLTAGE setting, remove the label, change the

switch setting and replace the label. Additional labels are supplied in the
accessory kit.
Installer’s Note: Changing this setting requires a corresponding change
to the fuse box configuration: 70V is selected for 100-120VAC; 100V is selected
for 220-240VAC.
10. POWER ON/OFF – Switches AC power on or off.
11. Fuse box with AC voltage configuration indicator
Installer’s Note: The fuse box configuration must be coordinated with
the 70/100V OUTPUT VOLTAGE setting: 70V should be selected for
100-120VAC; 100V should be selected for 220-240VAC.
The fuse box is configured at the factory according to the specifications of
your order. Should you need to replace the fuse, follow these steps:
a. Using a thin screwdriver blade,
open the fuse box. Pull out the
drawer and remove the fuse.
